    Excited!

Hey guys! I'm 24/m, from SoCal. Just wanted to say, I'm really excited, my surgery is 12/28/12 and I have Pre-op 12/24/12. Excited and nervous. Anyone else going around the same time?

    Excited!

Go for it! The teas are fine, just stick to sugar free and skim milk. You can easily get by on a tall. And a hot drink is good for soothing the stomach. Try the earl grey latte, it's really good, naturally sweet, a grande even packs 7 grams of Protein with skim milk!

    Getting in ENOUGH calories?

I had no preop diet before my surgery. I did have a 2 day Water only fast though. I got all my nutrition guidelines at my final pre-op appointment before surgery. Today is my 6th day post-op. I'm on a completely liquid diet of Protein shakes, water, skim milk, soy/almond milk, sugar free Popsicles and Jello, and low sodium beef and chicken broth,

    Excited!

My surgeon said to not worry about calories, just focus on Protein. I was told to get a minimum 60 grams protein per day through this. So far I'm averaging 500 calories a day and 70 grams of protein. I'm full. I get through about 2 Water bottles a day (MiO helps with that, like crystal light). How is your pee? Not to sound too personal lol, but I'm peeing about 2-3 times a day and while its not clear, it doesn't smell and isn't deep in color (average in color). Today I actually had 700 calories (scandalous!) with 80 grams of protein because I splurged and got a grande earl grey tea latte with skim milk from Starbucks. But hey it's extra protein and nothing truly bad.

    Excited!

Get sugar free Popsicles and jello, they help as well. Also get beef broth. I spice mine up with a garlic and herb powder with some black pepper and a couple drops of Sri racha. It takes it from bland stock to flavorful soup. It's awesome.

Congrats! How are you doing on your post oP diet? My weight is plummeting like crazy but I'm still bloated/swollen so I don't notice a difference.

    Getting in ENOUGH calories?

I'm 5 days post op and averaging 500 calories a day, I feel good and am not hungry. My doctors told me not to worry about the count of calories but to make sure I'm getting at least 60 grams of protein per day and plenty of water.

    Calorie Intake

I am currently 5 days post op and all I can fit in is about 500 Calories a day and 70 grams of Protein. My surgeon and nutritionist stressed that I should not be concerned with counting calories at this stage, but just to make healthy decisions, on a fully liquid diet, and to make sure I get at least 60 grams of protein a day. I'm still losing, I'm still losing hand over fist actually! It's incredible what I've lost so far but I'm still bloated due to the gas from surgery. I'm not saying you should (or I should) stay at only 500 from now on, but you would be surprised what your body can take. It's all about tricking your brain, my body isn't in starvation mode because my stomach is always full. It's a good feeling.

    Surgery today!

Well, it's been a bit of journey, but here I am. I have surgery scheduled in 5 hours, but I have to be at the hospital in 3 hours. I've been fasting the last 2 days (been rough!) and I'm happy it's going to be over soon. I've done all my post-op grocery shopping. My copayment is paid, and a ride secured. Nothing to stop this from happening and no turning back! I'm excited and a little nervous, miserably hungry but I'll live. Wish me luck!

    Surgery today!

Thanks I'm sure it will be ok. I'm just having a rough time with this fast. I am about 56 hours into this fast of Clear liquids only. Haven't had any fluids since 12am.

Lapband failure / waste of time and money

My surgeon told me that after the surgery I won't be able to have carbs at all because they will stick in the pouch and cause vomiting. I was also told the vomiting could cause slippage making the band ineffective. He has me on a high Protein, low fat, no carb diet, the only carbs I can eat post surgery is a small amount of toasted bread (dry, no butter) if I'm craving carbs. It sounds like you're having an issue with carbs and possibly slippage. You also seem to be defeating yourself if you allow yourself to eat as if you didn't have the band. That's only further stretching out the pouch and reducing its effectiveness.
  15. My name is Morgan and I'm 24/m and I weigh 337 pounds. This past month has been a trying one. I began my lap-band journey just before thanksgiving. I have had psych evaluations, meetings, consultations, doctors appointments, tests, studies, and procedures. I just found out the good news today from the doctors office. My insurance approved my claim for the surgery and I should expect a call tomorrow to pick a day to have it! I'm excited, but this has been such an overwhelming bittersweet month, during this process I found out I have moderately severe sleep apnea and now will have another sleep study on Monday to get fitted for a cpap post surgery. I also have surgery slated in January to remove polyps and reduce the nasal turbines, hopefully it will work otherwise ill need the cpap a or a special mouth guard for the rest of my life. Anyway, I digress, I figured with my insurance getting approved, I should join a community. I look forward to beginning my new life.

    Hey Everyone!

Yeah, thankfully being young and not having any stretch marks, my skin should go back nicely and my old injuries should heal better.

    Hey Everyone!

Thanks. It's just so much! I didn't know what I was getting into and so scary to see how much I've deteriorated, all the medical issues I never knew I had.

    Hey Everyone!

I'm not super worried. The doctor did say the weightloss should help the apnea, but post surgery it's mandatory I wear the cpap machine while sleeping. He is going to be doing a endoscopic surgery with a microscope and laser. We did a CT scan and found a a few polyps that need to be removed, and my turbines are swelled a bit on the right side. So that should open up everything some more to hopefully keep my airway open. That has no heal time or pain thankfully. No black eyes or stuffing. There is a more serious surgery where he can tighten up my uvula and soft palette which can help too. But that one will be a weeks recover time and a sore throat.
