  1. I have 4 incisions, and I thought I'd wind up with 5. Do most people have 5 or 4 or a different number?? Just curious!

    May 2007 Banders

I haven't been around here in a LONG time, but I thought I'd stop by and see how my fellow May 07 bandsters are doing!! I lost 50 pounds by november but the holidays killed me and I gained back 10. I went for my first fill (I could never get it scheduled and then got sick the day I was supposed to go in January) last week and it turns out that my band tubing has disconnected from my port, so I have to have surgery next tuesday to fix it, under anesthesia which really SUCKS! I'm trying really hard NOT to be discouraged but I was really hoping to have lost a LOT more by my one year, and it looks like I'll be lucky to get back under 250 (I'm 254 now, was 244 before thanksgiving) by my one year bandiversary. Kind of disappointing but I thought maybe I'd come back here and jump into the discussion and maybe get reinspired by how GREAT everyone has done, and how great I WILL DO once I get a fill and get my act together!! Just saying hello and jumping back in!! Jenny

    May 2007 Banders

Thanks for thinking of us!! We were both banded today, me at 7:30am and losin it (my best friend) at 9:15am. Everything went well for both of us and we're both relieved that it's over and excited to start being losers!! I feel absolutely fine, UNTIL I LAY DOWN, which is why it's almost 3am and I'm still up! I can't sleep! I'm just so glad it's over!
  4. YAY!!! How exciting!! Now I have to get my approval too so that we really can share a room for our surgery day! LOL We're ALMOST THERE....... (Miami here we come!!!) :fish:

    April chat for NJ!!!!!

Wow! Thanks so much for the list! I've been working on finding a good protein shake mix and when I do, I'll stock up! I'll have to find the liquid tylenol and the gas-x, and I'll pretty much be good to go! Dr. Bertha said we'd be on a liquid diet for 4 weeks after surgery! What, exactly, does that mean? Clear liquids for 4 weeks or does that include cream soups and/or mushie foods????? Anyone know?

    April chat for NJ!!!!!

Hi everyone!! I'm so sorry I haven't responded to anyone, I couldn't get on this board for a few days!! I don't know what was wrong but I was getting an error message that the board moved! And, with a 10 week old and a 2 1/2 year old, I have about 27 seconds on any given day of time to myself, so when it wasn't working, I had to give up. I want to go reread all the messages so that I can jump into the conversations, but I just HAD to report my BIG NEWS real quick in case my newborn wakes up! I went to Dr. Bertha today for my very first surgery consult and left with a DATE!!! YES, I have a DATE for surgery ALREADY! I almost fell over when we got to schedule it! May 15 if my big day, the day my life changes! YAY!! I'm SO excited! My best friend is scheduled for the same day, too, and they said we could be together so that's cool too! I'll post more later but I love Dr. Bertha, he's so nice and seems to cool too! Take care!

I don't think we'll be going this year (we usually go in March) because of the new baby, but I'm planning (or planning to plan) a HUGE trip next fall, and I can't wait!! I'll be living vicariously through everyone here who is going so be sure to post LOTS of details!

    April chat for NJ!!!!!

Hello again everyone and thanks for the welcome!! Let me tell you a little bit more about me, so you know who you're talking to! I'm 37, happily married for 9 years to soul mate (whom I met online, BTW!) and I have two amazing sons (2 1/2 and 10 weeks!). I'm a veterinarian and until now, I have worked full time but my husband just got offered a position full time at Sirius Satellite Radio - his dream job - the DAY we brought our newborn home from the hospital! So, now that he has benefits, I get to work part time!! YAY! I'm very excited! I haven't gone back yet from maternity leave and I'm really enjoying being a stay at home mommy, at least until April 23! I'm also a vegetarian and a huge animal lover. I volunteer time and money to several causes, including the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, where I'm a team captain every year for their annual Light the Night walk in the fall. I "met" a woman online who lost her daughter to leukemia at only 9 months old, just after I had my first baby, and it really hit me hard so I've been involved ever since (www.friendsofheroes.org). As for banding, my best friend of 24 years told me in January that she was considering getting banded. I didn't know anything about it. I was pregnant and miserable and didn't even give it a thought. Fast forward 6 weeks after baby is born, we talked about it and I realized I wanted to do it too so we have embarked on this journey together!! I was a chubby kid, got skinny as a pre-teen, chubby as a teen, extremely thin when I was about 20 (good gods, I was 140 pounds!! Imagine that!!!), got chubby again in vet school, got thin again on Phen-Fen (I admit, I LOVED THAT STUFF!!!). I met my husband at 156 pounds in 1997, got married in 1998 (we were engaged 10 weeks after we met!) and got FAT! Somehow, I now weigh 291 pounds and I can't quite figure out how that happened. I have two babies but I can't really blame it all on them because I was 250 when I got pregnant with the first one. I lost a baby at 22 weeks gestation to severe birth defects and that was really hard, and I gained 30 pounds with that pregnancy. So, I am desperately in need of some help and I'm hoping the band will provide that help! I have lost enough weight in my life enough times to know what to do, I just can't seem to do it long term. Hopefully this will be the time! I'm excited at the thought of being in Onederland again!!! HOWEVER, we have only just started the process! I met with the nutritionist and have been to a seminar. We are going to use Dr. Bertha in Morristown Hospital. We will be meeting with him on Wednesday and the nutritionist for our follow up on Friday of next week. I have my psych appointment on 4/27 and then I guess it's all up to the insurance because I can't afford to self pay! I have BC/BS so I'm HOPING approval won't be a nightmare! My friend and I are hoping to have surgery the same day!!! I had blood drawn today and the H. Pylori breath test, so that's another hurdle jumped! So, that's my life story in a nutshell! I don't get online too much, maybe once a week if I'm lucky but I'll try to check in whenever I can! Take care!

    Any Northern NJ's out there??

Hello everyone!! I'm a newbie here in Union, NJ! I'm going for my surgery consult on 4/18 with Dr. Bertha. I'm so excited!! I just wanted to say hello to my hometown (well, homestate at least) fellow bandsters and hopefully I'll be joining you soon.
  13. Hello everyone! I'm brand new to this site and I just wanted to say HI and introduce myself! I'm Jennifer, 37, in NJ, happily married with two boys (the youngest is just 6 weeks old), a veterinarian, and absolutely impatient to have my lapband surgery and get thin and healthy!! Currently my BMI is 43.4 or so and I have at least 125 pounds to lose. I can't quite figure out how I got this big... My best friend of 24 years did the research and talked to me about getting banded and I immediately knew it was for me! We made our appointment with a surgeon for Monday, March 26 and neither one of us can wait!!! It's just so exciting! We're hoping to have our surgeries together. From what I can tell (according to an email from my health insurance), the surgery will be covered by my insurance if I qualify and I can't wait to get that whole process started!! Just wanted to say hello and here I am, lurking and soaking up all the information I can! Jenny
  14. Hi Judy!! You're a vet too, that's SO cool! I never find other vets anywhere! Small animal or large? What school did you graduate from and when? Do you have boys or girls? I wish you the BEST of luck with your journey, it looks like we'll be doing it at almost the same time! I have about 125 (ugh) pounds to lose, so maybe we can be weight loss buddies! Good luck to you!!
