Hi Everyone! I received my approval for Lap Band Surgery yesterday!!! I got teary eyed I was so excited and relieved! I am still waiting to hear from scheduling at the hospital for my date. I have Aetna insurance and my employer has the plan written with specific guidelines I had to follow. Aetna is typically a 6 month medically monitored weight loss requirement however my company was written at 3 months. There is also an RN that works directly with the Bariatric patients for my employer. She has been with me through this and great for answering questions. Thanks to her I knew of my approval before my surgical team heard LOL! She will also follow me for 6 months post op making sure I am following the recommended diet from my surgical program and my overall health after. Half way through my journey I had to switch surgical programs thanks to changes in my insurance plans from 2012 to 2013. I was happy in my old program and I'm equally as happy in the new program. I cannot wait to begin my journey. I have another dietitian class, a 10 day pre op diet and preop testing and then surgery. I'll keep you all posted when I receive my date! Wendy

Hi Everyone! It has been 2 weeks since my file was submitted to insurance for approval. I received a letter from my insurance company stating that they need additional information which I passed along to the insurance coordinator today. I had to switch programs in the middle of my 3 months of medically monitored weight loss and other insurance requirements due to 2012 and 2013 insurance changes so I'm hoping they get everything they need from both programs. Wish me luck!! Wendy

In 2010 I wanted to have Lasik eye surgery before my wedding. I went for the consult and it was detected that I may have had swollen optic nerves. After a scary few months it was found that I have a rare condition where deposits develop on my optic disc. By finding this out early I was able to seek treatment before anything happened to my vision. Now in 2013 as I am pursuing Lapband surgery it was found that I have sleep apnea. I go tonight for a CPAP test. Though this was a major blow to my self-esteem with thoughts such as "How will I ever feel sexy for my husband" crossed my mind I also had to think about how low my oxygen levels drop and how many times an hour I stopped breathing. I can also take comfort in knowing the sleep apnea can go away after I have this surgery and I am successful in my weight loss journey. I am concluding month 1 of my 3 month supervised weight loss insurance requirement next week. I also have my psych eval Friday. Time is flying and I'm learning so much thanks to my amazing surgical team/program and this forum. Thanks everyone for your inspiration! Wendy

I have a wonderful surgical team. The programs they have in place are teaching me the tools I need to be successful now and after I have the band. I cannot wipe the cheesy smile off my face today!! -
