  1. OMG, that woman was totally out of line. You should report her you know what as soon as you can. I had been made to feel like a failure many years ago after a small weight gain--it totaly derailed my progress. Now, looking back, older and wiser--i wish I never gave that power away. That PA is a liability to that doctor's practice and he should know about it. And i hope you are finding a way to recover from the experience. We are all unique and on unique journeys. My progress the second time around is much slower than the first--but it is happening, slowly but surely. Stay focused on how much better you feel, and how much better you will feel in the future, however long it takes to get there. Best of luck to you.

    Pain, pain go away....

this may sound a little nuts to you--but flapping your "wings" like a chicken while strolling around your house may help redistribute the pressure and aid in dissipation. someone gave me this advice 7 years ago when i was first banded and it worked. i also used this flapping "technique" when rebanded recently. again, success. hope it helps a little. you may get some funny looks though...

    Esophageal spams??

not exactly the same situation...but... i had to get a complete unfill after being too tight for too long (lesson learned the hard way). my doc warned me that i may experience significant spasms as a result of that unfill. thank god he warned me! a few hours later, i thought i was going to die. it was very painful and debilitating. you should definitely talk to your doc about your spasms. there may be some underlying reasons that you need to address head on. spasms are not normal. good luck to you.

    No Beans-Why??

I was told the same. Basically, the reasoning was that Beans are high in carbs. There are better sources of Protein that are lower in carbs...ricotta, eggs... Im not advocating, just sharing what i was told. In fact, I just ate a few mashed white beans and cauliflower for dinner!

    Feeling anxious....

i love my band. it hasn't been easy--i have to work at it--but it changed my life. i am 7 years out and if i had to do it again, i would. in fact, i just had my band updated while having a hernia repaired. im only a few weeks out but feeling good. good luck to you guys!
  7. miralax does miracles. and summerrain is right-- fruit is great for this. for me, a handful of blackberries blended with milk every day goes a long way in the plumbing dept. hope things move along for you.

When Can I start Working out? Crossfit?

Hey there. I just had a hiatal hernia repair and band replacement. I'm looking at 6 weeks before I can kick my activity back up beyond walking. The best thing you can do is consult your surgeon. Only he knows what kind of intricate handiwork went on during surgery. As much as I want to get on the incline trainer or do some low impact zumba, I am going to resist and make sure I am fully healed before risking injury or stress. It's a bummer but a small price to pay for a healthy band in the end. good luck to you.

Big Book Of Lap-Band ... Major Oversight

So well said. The unfortunate part of food addiction and obesity is that most folks dont view this as a disease. To them, we are out of control. Lazy. Slobs. Social scrutiny makes this even more challenging to manage. Although i have struggled with my band--7 years out and recently got rebanded--i am so grateful to have this tool to help me control some of the problem. I hold myself accountable for the rest of the equation--which is exercise and dedication to be better to myself in all ways. Personally, I plan to start seeing someone about emotional eating. I know i need to treat this from a few directions if i am going to make it work over a lifetime. Wannabe...have you considered seeing a therapist to help out with the sabotage and head hunger? It may prove helpful. Hang in there. You can turn this around.

    Bad Band!!!!

Sorry to hear of your band leak. I had my band replaced recently. I didnt have a specific pre-op diet, but post-op will probably be the same as your first surgery. After 2 days of liquids, I was put on mushies for 4 weeks. It is a difficult phase! Once the swelling goes down, you might feel wide open and the mushies don't even begin to satisfy. You seem like a motivated person though (67 lbs in 7 months is awesome!)--you should get through it just fine.
