Exercising but the scale is not budging!?!
AClamors replied to AClamors's topic in Fitness & Exercise
okay, thanks ladies, I guess I'll start to track my calories & increase exercise time. -
I had surgery on November 27, 2012. My beginning weight was 193, I am now 172. My scale has not budged from 172 in the past past 7-10 days. I exercise every day, consisting of 20-25 mins on the eliptical, and a few days a week I will throw in an extra 10-15 mins. I know my scale is accurate because it is weighing my kids correctly. I don't understand why I haven't lost anything this past week. I do not count my calories, should I start counting?

How are you doing with your band now? I'm in the same boat today, had a fill, at 6cc and I feel the exact same way. This was your 3rd fill? This was my 4th. How long have you had your band?

14 months n a slip!!!!
AClamors replied to tray116's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMGoodness! I am so sorry! Do you know what caused your band to slip? I hope everything goes okay for you. You have lost 123lbs, that's fantastic, I'm inspired!!! -
I had a 1cc fill today because I am stil very hungry within 1-2 hours after a meal (1 cup). My Dr. said this is normal and that's why we are working on getting my band to where it needs to be to help surpress the appetite. I felt fine in the office and swallowed water just fine. A couple of hours later my abdomen is hurting, just feels like a rock is in it, and when I tried to eat I just can't it hurts my stomach. If I feel like this in the morning I will call my Dr. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this issue. Thanks!

And so the hunger returns....
AClamors replied to Terry Poperszky's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I can so relate to ya here! I'm still struggling with not taking bites here and there while fixing meals for the family. It's hard, but definately gets easier. -
That's wonderful! So happy for you! I've had my band for almost 2 months and I have been very blessed with no issues at all. I've lost 16lbs, I know others that lose way more than that in 2 months, but I am NOT complaining!

And so the hunger returns....
AClamors replied to Terry Poperszky's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, the hunger does come back, and from what my Dr. has explained to me this is what I understand. The first couple of weeks post op I wasn't that hungry, why? Because I was still very swollen internally from the surgery and this can also put some pressure around the band area surpressing the appetite, and also anesthesia can for whatever reason cause you to not want to eat for a while. As a couple of weeks went by my hunger began to return and I was finding I was able to eat more than what I "thought" I should be eating. Soooo, at my first fill my dr. told me I very well may not feel any different at ALL. And sure enough I didn't, I just kept doing the best I could, and working through my hunger as long as I could, drinking lots of ice Water. Then I had my second fill.....same thing I didn't see a difference. I called my Dr.'s office about a week later and she said "You need more Fluid in your band" At that point I had 3 cc's in my band. I went to see her, she put 2 more cc's of fluid in my band. I once again told her I was frustrated because I was hungry withing an hour or so after I would eat my very small meal. She said "It takes time. The purpose of the fills is to get you to where that hunger is supressed and it only comes a few times a day, when I should eat a meal (small meal). So if you have to come in every week for a fill that is fine. We will gradually fill your band till we are where the hunger has subsided. ." My Dr. and I feel that I'm getting close to that point. I am still getting hungry between meals, BUT it's getting easier to work through the hunger. I now make sure I'm not eating more than once every 4 hours. Every once in a while my blood sugar feels as though it's dropping (I get shaky, and just don't feel right), this is when I will have a couple bites of crab meat (chew, chew, chew) or something high in Protein. Soooo, with all this being said, lol. I'm sure I will see my Dr. this week, probably for just a 1/2 or a 1cc fill. I hope all this babble helps you. -

I understand, my Dr. is 1.25 hrs away. But there is a lapband support group that meets in a town about 25 mins. from me. BUT I have to say, my Dr. is by far my biggest supporter. If you have questions, call their office, talk to the Nurse, and you can also ask for the Dr. to call you back. I haven't had a chance to read on this sight what to eat and what not to eat, but I think a lot of it is just common sense, lol. Hang in there.

A lapband support group is another optiong too. They are usually led by a Dietician. My insurance required me to meet with a dietician monthly for 6 months, this was part of the approval process. My Bariatric surgeon does not require this. But I do have plans to start attending a lapband suppport group this month.

Earlier this week I had several questions also. I was feeling confused and didn't quite understand what all the talk was about "restriction" as my Dr. never mentions the word restriction, and now after reading this article that I found on here http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html I understand why she doesn't use the word. Also, there are several tabs at the top of the article under menu, that have tons of valuable information. And Nachos are definitely not on the list of foods to eat. It seems crazy how easily the bad foods go down, but that is where self discipline is needed and learned. I'm learning and working on self discipline myself. I'm new to all this too. I hope this article helps you as it did me.

The port is not visible, it's under the skin in your abdominal wall. My Dr. palpates the area to confirm where the port is before inserting the needle to add saline. I have now had 3 fills, and regardless of how it looks in videos, it's a painless, short procedure done at your Dr. visit. Before I had my first fill, I watched a youtube video of a fill, lol. It really helped prepare me.

Newbie! Post Op 6 Days :)
AClamors replied to AClamors's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thank You! -
Hi everyone! Today I am 6 days post op, woohoo! The first few days of recovery were tougher than I imagined, but getting easier every day. I also had a Hiatal Hernia repaired during the Lap Band surger. I have my first post op visit (suture removal) this Thursday. I'm a little nervous because I am supposed to be eating ONLY foods that "run" off the spoon. As of yesterday, I have ate a few soft foods. I started feeling like my blood sugar was constantly falling, and running out of ways to make food "run" off the spoon. I hope I'm not doing anything too wrong, guess I'll find out Thursday. My question is, should I be able to eat more than 4oz at a meal, and when I do am I doing something wrong? Grrrr, so much ahead of me and I just don't want to mess anything up. I'm looking forward to being a part of this forum :_
