    September 2013 Surgeries

I think it depends on your insurance and what they require before you can have the surgery. I started the process in February and had to have 6 mos of supervised diet. That was up in July. I was hoping to get surgery date in August, but my surgeon is on vacation through second week into August, then he is booked. I am on the bump list though if someone should cancel. I really wanted it in August as my surgery date is the same date my kindergartener goes off to a new school. I'm already a bit emotional about that now and I know it will get worse as time goes on. My husband thinks I'm crazy to be so upset about it this and that I should just be happy I'm starting a new phase in life and I should be happy about that. He just don't get the bond that a mom has with her child is and being the last one to go off to a big school doesn't help! Anyways, I hope u get a surgery date soon. Good luck!

I'm September3rd, but not by choice. I really wanted a date in August, but so far no dates available yet. I've got my request in to be bumped up if a date becomes available. Surprisely so, they tell me that people cancel at the last minute. Can't imagine going through all,of this and cancel!
  5. So, my surgery date is Sept. 3rd and I feel really bitter sweet about it. I'm having second thoughts about going through this. I'm afraid of vomiting/dumping, loose skin, etc. The good thing is a low bmi, in which the surgeon only wanted me to lose 2 ibs, and Iost 12 so far. The reason I wanted to have the surgery wasn't because of my weight it was to get rid of my diabetes, hbp, gerd, sleep apnea. I've made a last bet with myself that if I lose 20 ibs, by the end of August, I will not go through with it. If I lose the 20 ibs, I will only need to lose roughly 40 ibs more to get to the weight the surgeon estimated me after wls. Has anyone had these kinds if thoughts or made last minute rationales? Thanks for any and all responses.
  6. I'm hoping I don't need plastic surgery, but if I do need it I will go through with it. Even though, I'm having the surgery for my health issues, I feel I need to be happy in my own skin and if that is what it takes I will.

  10. Hi Fran, how is your pre-op experience going? Do you have all your required stuff done and just waiting for 'the' day like I am?

    Hello

I mean I have a great deal if GERD now, so I don't want it worse after.

    Hello

I was also on the fence between the two surgeries. However, I'm going with the RNY because the GERD will be better (quick I have a great deal of pre surgery) and my type 2 diabetes has a higher success rate to be cured.

    Michigan anyone?

Hi everyone, I'm a Michigander. I live in Livonia(suburb) of Detroit. I will be having my surgery on September 3rd with Dr. Carlin at Henry Ford hospital in Detroit. I've been overweight my entire life (cw 215). I've been on more diet plans then I can count. I'm just plain and tired of being overweight and dealing with all the complications related to obesity. More importantly then weight, I'm dealing with diabetes, high blood pressure, gerd, back/leg pain, mild neuropathy in my feet from the diabetes and the list goes on. When I started my weight loss journey, I first wanted the band, but doc would not recommend them anymore because of the possible erosion. So, I thought the next best option would be the sleeve, but surgeon said no to that one too citing my diabetes would better cured with the RNY and acid reflex would be worst with the sleeve. So here I am getting the RNY, even though I'm still not crazy about the rerouting, malaborption, and possible bowel obstruction. Would love to hear some encourgaging success stories from the other side...
