What made you chose RNY rather than sleeve?
SueC1 replied to Olivereindeer's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I actually had the same points made that Jessica makes here. However, the biggest one she didn't list is diabetes. Doctor told me that RNY has a 85-90% cure rate. The Sleeve is only in the 60%. Once I heard the stats I didn't question the sleeve anymore. -
I'm using sparkpeople for my food and exercise. I find it easy to use. I am much better logging during the week then I am over the weekend. At work, I usually log what Im eating during the day and I what I ate the night before. I have not been the greatest about making sure my portions are exact to what I'm logging though. I'm guess ta mating which can through me off from actuality. I know that food logs are a power tool to use, I just need to fine toon it.

Peanut butter

Does anyone know where to get that PB2 powder stuff at? I want to put some in my protein shakes for after surgery Thanks, Sue -
I am so glad to hear I'm not alone with this. Even though, I know this is one of the best decisions I will be making, I can't help but thinking of all the things that will go wrong. Not so much in the surgery room itself, but life after. Will I be able to eat, will I be able to drink, will I get dehydrated, will I end up in the hospital for a ulcer or hernia, will I be sick all the time....and the list goes on and on. I go from excited one minute, to thinking about cancelling the next. I don't think I'm having as much of an issue with the food persay. For me it is the coffee and diet POP, I don't want to give up. Ugh! And I thought all this emotional stuff was going to happen after surgery not before! Im trying so hard to get mentally prepared, but I guess I will have deal with things as they come.

Hi Rick, like you I only have less then a 100 Ibs to lose, but since I have chronic health issues related to long term obesity and diabetes, I'm going through with the surgery. I asked my surgeon if I could lose to much weight and become sickly. He said no, but if I don't take my vitamins, protein and water I will look sickly. Do what you feel is best. Good luck to you. Oh, I would try to stay away from the jalapenos. I'm no expert, but I think that might cause you some discomfort that may lead to ulcer.

I also started my weight loss journey with wanting the lap band, but my surgeon doesn't recommend it anymore because of all the problems they are seeing. I then wanted the sleeve and he told me that my diabetes might not go away and my acid reflex would get worse. He said that the RNY has a over 85% cure rate for diabetes and acid is usually better, so I'm going with the RNY on 9-3-13. Do your research and talk to your surgeon about your specific health and you both will come to the right decision. I must say though I am happy that I won't have to go through this more then once, but I am a bit upset that I have to go this extreme. I wish the band was more successful.

Some questions about communication with surgeon
SueC1 replied to Halogen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so glad that my insurance requires 6 mos of supervised diet. For me, I needed that time to reflect on why I my health was so bad, why I need the surgery and how to get my self mentally and physically prepared. It does go by fast. My surgery is less then a month away and my focus this week is getting all my supplies I will need to together...like blender, food processor, electronic scale etc. The follow week will be gathering recipes to have pre and post op. Best of luck to you! -
Kinsse, I hope you start to feel better soon! My prayers are with you.
