Hi everyone! I have been toying with the idea of a band for a few years now. I had started the process again in early March of this year then got diagnosed with Stage 1 Breast Cancer. I've gone through surgery, radiation and now I'm on a hormone blocking pill for the next 10 years. My cancer was 100% estrogen positive and we all know that fat stores estrogen. Right now weightloss is my top priority. My MO, PCP and Bariatric Surgeon all agree. I just wondered if anyone else has been in a situation similar to mine? I expect to be banded early October regardless of whether insurance covers it or not. A generous friend has offered to cover the cost for me. Weightloss can help prevent reoccurance and even with knowing this I still can't control my food on my own!

Jen that is exactly what my MO said. I was lucky to get by without chemo. However, if it returns my band can be emptied if needed. I'm excited about this surgery. Getting to a normal BMI will really help reduce my risk of reoccurrence. -

My oncologist and other docs would only agree to the band. The oncologist didn't see losing most of my stomach as a "healthier" option. Since my immune system is still a bit compromised as I just completed treatment 3 months ago. I'm guessing the sleeve is great for some but, I've been shown way to much evidence that it's not for me. -

I have my EGD on Friday! Hoping for this surgery soon! I've got a grandbaby coming at the end of October so I'll be scheduled around that! It's nice and reassuring to know there are others like me out there! I'm currently cancer free and hope to be that way for a very long time! -
This makes me happy!!! I have the same insurance and I'm hoping for a fast approval!!

Tom, do you happen to know the name of the app for the smartphone? I can't seem to find one and I love this idea of using my phone to track my steps!

I posted a couple of weeks back. I haven't had surgery yet but my surgery is approved and I'm a self pay patient. I get really scared when I think about having this surgery. So I decided to try it on my own. I woke up this morning two pounds heavier and I've been crying ever since. Why does this have to be so hard! I read this forum everyday, I see both the struggles and successes that everyone has. I'm not new to this. I've been looking at wls for several years now. I lost around 80lbs over a year ago and have gained all but 15lbs back since the death of my sister. Is this normal? Did any of you get scared and try it on your own one more time before you had your surgery?

Hello! I've lurked here for over a year, joined recently and have decided to post! I am approved and cleared for surgery, have secured my money and all the doctor is waiting on is me. I've been toying with this for about 6 years now and only recently did it become a reality where I could afford it. Up until this point, I couldn't and my insurance won't cover. My question I guess is this.. now that it can happen why am I dragging my feet? I can't pinpoint why I am so scared to just go do it. I'm your average on paper healthy (if you didnt look at my weight) 43yr old who just happens to be 100lbs overweight. I see what obesity has done to my 6 siblings who are older and I don't want the same things to happen to me! I think I just need reassurance from people who understand.

I'm cleared for surgery and I suppose they are just waiting on me! I'm self pay so it's a huge investment on my part. I'm 43, and have read every single post I think in this 40's forum! I've been researching and discussing this for atleast 6 years. Here is my issue... Now that its a reality and Ive secured financing, gone through all my precert stuff, I am so flippen scared! Is this normal? One second I'm excited about having the surgery, the next second I feel like I'm going to die from panic!

True, I think I've read all the stories twice! The good on this forum most certainly outweighs the bad!

I know it's crazy! Up until the point I finalized the money I wasn't a bit scared! Now I'm crazy! At the end of last December I was 70lbs lighter than I am today. I know how to lose it, I just can't sustain it. Which is why I think the band will work for me. The foreign object in my body and potential complications are what scare me. My surgery is 16,000. I'm not sure I can come up with thousands more if I have issues!
