I was banded 4.5 months ago and am down 45 lbs. my port hurt when I first had the surgery. It hurts less but the pain is still there. My Dr said he could move it to the other side and it may help. Happened to anyone else? If so, did you lose more weight?
-
FYI all. I ended up having to get a catheter put in for a few days to jump start my kidneys. I can pee now and feel much better! They said that the anesthesia during the surgery put my kidneys to sleep and it took the cath to wake them up!

Full or stuck food?
taraepperson replied to jalangy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr said to give it a couple of days after a fill before eating full solids again. I once had a fill and couldn't keep anything down so I had them take some out. It was a mistake. 2 weeks later I had to go in for another fill and pay again. -
Joe, I know the holidays are hard. Maybe you should get a fill and then it won't allow you to eat those bad things. After my last fill, I could no longer eat bread or bacon. Sounds terrible, buy It's actually great !

That's funny! I had to take extra fiber and laxatives to get my bowels moving again. It's very common.

I was banded 5 months ago and yes, you will feel a bulge to one side of your belly button. Most is scar tissue now. Once you lose a little weight you can actually feel the port. Weird but kinda cool.

Brand new and freaking out....
taraepperson replied to Stephleupagus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
#1 take sone gas x regularly. You won't feel so bloated. #2 you never have to give up your favorite foods. You'll learn a lot though trial and error. I had thin crust pizza for dinner tonight. Loved it! I do it about once a week and I'm Dow 50 lbs in 5 months. And NO, I don't workout . Good luck! -
Yeah, I'd just ask you lap Dr. One doesn't really have anything to do with the other though so I think you're fine. I also think its great that you're going for your regular colonoscopy testing!

You guys will do great! I'm on month 5 and down 45 lbs. it's worth everything!!!!!!!!

Post it on here. I've got great ideas!

I wouldn't go too quickly with the beans because you'd be surprised the bad effects. They may go down ok, but you can get uncomfortable and gassy. It's no fun As for soup, I got this awesome Oster blender. I take whatever veggie I feel like, steam it, add chicken broth, and a tad fat free half and half. To die for! Warm, filling, and lots of choices. Way batter than cream of xxxxxx in a can! I've done asparagus, broccoli and cauliflower (with a little low fat cheese), squash. It was great!

Do it now Joe! When I was on Weight Watchers, it obviously didn't work, but I lost 7 lbs over Xmas! I guess I was just really eating cautiously.
-
All of the above. Bands tend to be tighter in the morning, after working out, and around that time of the month. The Dr says to do soft food or liquid in the morning. It gets better.

Try the smart ones desserts in the frozen section. The strawberry shortcake is the best! Perfect portion control. I also use my choc protein powder and some PB2 ( powdered pb) and mix it with milk in a blender. It's like peanut butter m&ms !!!!!!!

Full or stuck food?
taraepperson replied to jalangy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Both suck! I hate the stuck feeling so I just end up regurgitating it. It's not throwing up because nothing comes from your stomach. It's just that one small thing that got stuck and saliva. I'm so used to it now, I can just walk in the other room, lean over the sink and I'm done in 30 seconds! Feels better than waiting with chest pain. -
2nd day pre op liquid diet
taraepperson replied to brannewmee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can have any milk you want. I used almond milk because it had less calories. Follow that diet to a T and you'll lose a lot pre surgery. I lost 12 lbs! Another good trick is to use you snack, this fruit one, and out bit in the shakes. Yummy! -
Bcbs: Denied 1St Time; What To Do For Next Attempt?
taraepperson replied to JSahi's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have bcbsil. You are automatically approved with a bmi of over 40. However , if its 35 you need 2 health conditions. I had a 37 bmi, but high blood pressure and cholesterol. I was approved in 2 days. Bcbsil has also dropped the waiting period. Once approved, you start your 2 week diet and get it done! So glad I did it. AND my cholesterol and bp are both down. I was 215 a d now 170! Love it! -
I'm not close, but you could need a fill. Also try the original pre-op diet for 2 weeks again. It helps to lose a lot of weight quickly and gives you a great jump start again to shrink your stomach!
-
The biggest thing is portion control. You may be hungry at first but it will subside. Follow the exact pre-op diet they give you to get a nice 10 lbs or so jump off! After just eat lean meat the size if your palm and cut out sauces, dressings, dips , and carbs!
-
Yep. It's gas. Sounds gross but its part of the process. I still get it occasionally and I'm 6 months in. Gasx works!
-
It is definitely a belch that you need to get out. I had the same thing. It hurts but standing up and bending over forward and sideways will get it out eventually. The band is blocking it from coming out. I also quit shakes post op. they had to much fiber and gave me bloating gas. I'm 6 months down the road and feel awesome. Went from 215-170. Got a good start!

Gaining weight?
taraepperson replied to lalinda1236's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You definitely have to stick with the diet. I was so sick of shakes I stopped them the second I could have solid food! I ended up having small Snacks all day like cheese, fruit, yogurt, celery with Peanut Butter, lots of things. I had to eat my big meal for lunch, not dinner because I was starving by then. It's hard. Just remember, meat the size of your palm, no sauces, or fried food! You'll get a chance to cheat later and it'll get harder to cheat after fills. I was 215 in May and 170 now. I eat pizza still once a week, it's just thin crust veggie. If you need support anytime let me know! -
I'll answer this too. I was banded 6 months ago. The scar tissue pain was awful at first and it was hard for them to find the port. It didn't get better and sleeping was miserable! Last week I had to have the port moved to the other side. It sucked and now theres scar tissue on both sides but it already feels better after a week! Don't worry about a 2nd scar either. My first was almost unnoticeable with using mederma for a few months. It had almost totally faded away! Good luck.
