No date yet...still waiting. :-( A lot of confusion at the doc's office so hopefully thing will get resolved and I will know my date this week. The canadian health system is not the greatest to say politely.

Here are some questions I asked -How long has your surgeons been doing these operations? -How many surgeries has he done? -Any deaths? (yes I needed to know) -Most common complications?
-
Yes,…this site has A LOT of glitches. It took me days to figure out how to log in…go on LOG IN but right click and then click on OPEN.

Endocronologist evaluation?
doggylover replied to ireallywannabthin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Endocrinologist usually do blood tests and also check hormones. Sometimes they might test things that the bariatric clinic does not necessarily test... -
Your doctor can tell you if you qualify. Also, your BMI needs to be over 40.

anyone out there 6yrs+ or more ??
doggylover replied to worknprogress's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have searched also to try to find people who have had the band 10+ years and could not find any really. But lets not forget that they have been doing this operation in bigger volumes only in recent years. I did ask my doctor how long does it last and she said if there is no complications, you can keep it for the rest of your life if you want. -
Question for those who completed 6 month supervised diet...
doggylover replied to CaGottaBand's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I actually asked that question to my doctor. She told me that even if I would lose a lot of weight they would probably not deny me. What she also said to me (which is true in my case), is most obese people losing weight because of a diet (in this case the 6 month diet) almost always regain it if there is no reward (in this case the band) at the end. So if they would deny us, then we would get discouraged and probably gain it all back. And she also said to me that obese people who lose weight, have to work twice as much, as a rugular sized person which works out to maintain their weight, to keep the weight off. The main reason why they do the 6 month diet, is to getting yourself used to healthier habbits, making right choices, getting your body used to losing weight and getting a bit healthier before the operation...maybe the reasonning varies from one doctor to another but this is what my doc told me. -
OMG!!! thats AWFULL!!! some people are so moronic sometimes. Why don't they just shut up instead of saying something that stupid....
-
absolutely ! :-) thanks!

As for me, I did all my testing a couple months ago and went to my last pre-op appintment (the one were they explain the pre-op and post-op diets and exercises) in december. Im just waiting for my doc to call me with my surgery date and the OK to start my low-fat diet. Here in Quebec, we have line-ups in our hospitals and not enough doctors so we always have to wait and wait and wait...im SO ready, If only they would just call me now...

Hmm, i'll be able to have all those things according to my doc but in small quantities. She has even suggested to try to find those but in a healthier version like brown rice, wheat tortillas, wheat bread (toasted even better)etc...the only restriction she gave me is carbonated drinks because those do expand the stomach. Maybe that the items you have listed can cause blockage and not stretching???

I took a Zumba class last night.....
doggylover replied to Mrs. CMK's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I did Zumba classes twice a week for 3 months and i liked it. And IT DOES get easier. Actually by the 3rd or 4th time I went, it was easier to catch my breath and could go on for 1 full hour. I also was the biggest in the class! And after a while, you will remember the choreographies.... and everybody looks kinda lost in the first couple of classes, its absolutely normal. But the intention is to move and sweat and that I did !! :-) -
I agree. I also get a lot of tips and information to complete what the doc told me so far. I’m one of those people that when I get to the doctors office, they talk for ½ hour than I come out of the office and forgot half of it! This way, if I have a question, or something I dont remember, I come here and almost always find a answer.

how do I put a profile pic on here?
doggylover replied to doxiegirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Keep trying once in a while. It appears like its a glitch on this site. I couldn't for about 1 week, then, I was able to. Same thing with the ticker, took about 2 weeks to make it work..... -
I guess it depends on the doctor....I don't know why pasta specificaly would stretch your band....??
-
I am not banded yet, I should get banded in the first or second week of Feb. I'm 5'9'' and currently at 260 (was 275). My goal weight would be 160-165. As for me, my happiest weight was at 160-170. But I have been at my lowest at 138 (which is too skinny since i'm tall and big boned).

Ok, what is this?? every time I write a appostrophe, weird stuff is appearing... so it should have said: *I am *you will see *couldn t I ?
-
I understand were you are coming from. Weight has been an issue for me also for the past 10 years or so. Personally I have a different approach. I’m convinced this will work for me. Remember this is a tool and its your job to use it propely. And honnestly, what do you have to lose?? Its better to have tried and failed than never tried at all. Maybe when you’ll see the weight come off it will give you that boost you need to keep going ?? Keep reading posts and success stories on this site, it will give you encouragement. I know it did it for me. If others did it, why couldn’t I ??

*Assurance Maladie du Quebec I can see this web site does not take french ponctuation accents!
-
My insurance covers everything. We have "Assurance Maladie du Québec". But you need referal by a doctor and have health issues related to obesity. For example for me it was borderline high blood pressure (not high enough for medication thank god) and a history of diabetes in my family. As for now I was "sugar intolerant" but not diabetic yet (thank god for that too!). They consider that giving you this operation costs less than a life supply of meds, which I agree. So for that, it has been a blessing for me.... And I was refered by my Endocrinologist. I also have PCOS and treating obesity can improve PCOS symptoms as well. With PCOS its even harder to loose weight! But, i'm confident that getting this operation can only help and improve my life and health.

I should be banded 1st or 2nd week on Feb. (hopefully). I'm also getting anxious, but in a good way. i'm glad to see somebody on here from Canada! :-)

Cottage cheese, or any regular meal in the blender (very well blended) with some broth to thin it...I think pasta is considered "soft" as long as its in very small pieces..if i remember correctly.
