How long did it take to start losing weight - not counting the liver diet?
blondegal_ replied to WheelCrazy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've lost steadily since being banded in December. But like Mis I have tracked everything I've eaten each and every day. The scale does jump around some days but I know that's just Water retention and that over a whole month I will lose. Follow your doctor's guidelines and see a NUT if necessary. The pounds will come off. -
MFP has a section to add exercise. The amount it says for walking (pick a pace and time) is close to what my fitbit one measures. Also it's measurements for stationary bike are close to what the bike records.

Too much time off work
blondegal_ replied to jenns_history's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had Lapband with plication and also a hernia repaired. I needed two full weeks and then only went in Thursday/Friday and was glad to have the weekend. I have a desk job but work can be quite busy and stressful. When you're ready to go back go in and have your doctor write you a release. -
December 2012 --- Band Buddies Unite!
blondegal_ replied to LadyLeigh2012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have no idea. I've read on here comment after comment that the amount doesn't really matter so I never ask. But I've had 5 fills. My doctor gives fills even if you are loosing as he doesn't want the loss to just be will power/dieting. He wants to get you properly adjusted. As for being stalled - do you log all your food? Some say you can carb cycle to break a plateau. Or just by logging you might spot an area you can change. Best of luck! -
And stay hydrated!!! Good Luck recovering.

How often do you weigh yourself?
blondegal_ replied to Nurse_B's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I weigh myself every morning unless I'm running late. I record it just weekly though as I know there will be fluctuations because of water retention. -
How does a gastric band REALLY work?

What's the size for someone not banded? Just for comparison. -

Flew DFW to London (and back) and my doctor gave no restrictions nor did I have any issues. Was banded in 12/12 and have had fills. (And I usually always support the idea that one should follow doctor's orders but I just don't "get" the ones about no drinking. That would have meant near 12 hours without Water. That just doesn't seem right to me.)

December 2012 --- Band Buddies Unite!
blondegal_ replied to LadyLeigh2012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The month of June makes six months for us. Have you had your six month bandiversary yet? Mine was yesterday and I went today for a fill. I've lost a little more than 60 lbs. And if I'm not in green zone I'm this >< close. I feel I'm lucky as I don't think I had any struggles or difficulties. I'm also quite thankful for that. So how about the rest of you? Anyone want to reflect on the last six months? -
I think they need a much stronger support system than adult might need. So if both parents aren't going to commit to helping the child as well as other family members then it would be hard for the child to succeed.

What can I use to diminish the scars?
blondegal_ replied to hockeymother's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My understanding is that sun exposure within the first year of getting a scar can make it worse. I actually have a scar on my leg from childhood that freckled. But I am fair skinned with some freckles anyways. -
I feel the same way. The CVS brand of the chewable ones is 20 calories each and I'm supposed to take two. I just count them in my daily amounts. Haven't found a better solution.

Banded in 2009 and had plication TWO days ago
blondegal_ replied to NinaC's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to admit that I thought I was a wimp but I was in a lot of pain after surgery and needed two full weeks to recover. I had Lapband with plication and hernia repair. Reading about the people who went to work after three days or shopping the day after I thought was just crazy. Nice to know others need more time too. As far as the plication goes - I've never been "starving" before reaching green zone. Never wanted to chew my arm off. And as long as I made healthy food choices have always been able to stay under 1200 cal/day. Best if luck with your recovery! -
exercise and calorie counting
blondegal_ replied to Melissa@gail's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started counting calories from the beginning to get in the habit of it. And you should exercise based on your doctor's instructions. -
Sorry if this is TMI but for me it was being constipated. Others will have different answers based on their experiences. As always if you have a question/concern you should call your doctor.
-
I think so. But it just might be a bite or two of great food instead of a plateful as you just might find yourself not hungry at all.
-
Usually at 900-1100 before exercise. Usually don't eat extra calories if I exercise but sometimes I do have a snack of under 100 calories if I've had a good workout but food intake rarely exceeds 1200 calories. I feel I'm very close to green zone.

Down to 217.2 -
I'm more than five months post op and mine are still nice and ugly. :-( I'm very fair skinned though and expected it. I've even had scar tissue freckle. But since you've had minimum scarring in the past, you'll probably be fine.

I use Fage Greek 0% yogurt and some mustard in all salad type mixtures. The few times I've eaten a sandwich I just used mustard. Before banding I would use the reduced fat but found the non-fat just didn't have the same consistency or texture or something.
-
I use myfitnesspal and personalized the daily amounts. I put in a goal of 1100 calories with at least 80g of protein. That then showed about 110g for carbs. But looking back over the past two weeks, I'm all over the place with days of 30, 60, or 80. But for the most part I don't go over. I do try to watch my sugar numbers closely though. I just don't seen to lose if I get too many sugars.
