4th of july BBQ and 6th day post op
Sharpie replied to areli's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just remember it's just one day... make sure you drink lots of water and if you can do some protein drinks .... Happy Fourth... -
I just swallowed my gum...
Sharpie replied to Medikdave's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told by my surgeon that he has had to surgically remove gum from band patients who swallowed it.. it's not that it has to be scraped off, it gets stuck in the stoma .. depends on how bad you want to chew gum I guess... I'm not that brave.. don't want anymore surgery if I can get around it... just be careful.. -
Fantastic congratulations.....

Guess who got rescheduled
Sharpie replied to kng39212's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with Missy.. better safe than sorry... my Dr. was serious about the pre-op diet and I was scared not to do it right... better luck this time and remember it's for your health... -
Hi, my name is Quahog, and I'm addicted to ice cream....
Sharpie replied to Quahog's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh Yes Ice Creammm... I used to sit late at night with a huge bowl and eat it slowly... I had a love affair with it after husband went to bed.. I cannot have it around me.. I have eaten frozen yogurt since being banded but it's the weight watchers greek so it's not as evil...I know it is a trigger and I have to be strong enough to avoid it... I will say since being banded my craving is not as strong... -
Besides weight loss, what has been the biggest benefit since getting surgery?
Sharpie replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Alex the main purpose of my getting the lapband was health.. I have improved my health already and I still have 30 lbs or so to lose...but all of the answers would apply... I have tons of energy, have more confidence, feel great that I can finally be in control and buying clothes is getting way more fun..I enjoy my grandkids more and can do things with them again... -
Sounds like there is something wrong ... I think you need to either get another Dr or demand a better understanding of what the band should do... you also are not that heavy which means you will lose slowly.. make sure you are eating protein ...
-
how exciting for you... All I can tell you is that the lapband has been the best decision I have made regarding my weight... I am now down almost 50 lbs since my jan 15 surgery.. My blood sugar is around 85 each am.. blood pressure is good, I will have my labs done next week to see where my cholesterol stands..I want to get off of all my meds.. I do not feel deprived, I feel in control ... I can actually walk and swim and ride my horse and I am going to the gym every day... Good Luck to you and you will find lots of support here...

be really careful.. my nutritionist said if you eat bread make sure it's toasted and eat it very slowly and chew alot... I only have 1.8 cc in my band and I can eat toasted bread but don't normally eat much.. I did have 1/2 piece of wheat toast this morning ..

NSV today while shopping
Sharpie replied to donna12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Donna, what a great NSV.. I have two Wacoal bra's in my dresser, both cost me 65.00 each.. now they are too big but hey I am not complaining.. it's really great to find stuff on sale that fits.. you should have bought the jeans and had them shortened.. I have problems with the same thing.. I am 5' on a good day. so if it says short or petite I usually have to shorten it...good shopping days are what makes everything better.... -
I am a mama from the South.. I am considered a good cook by my kids.. but, I have had to change my way of cooking to accommodate my health issues.. I know your mama would love to have you around for many years... She would be hurt way more if you lost your health ..You need to remember who you are doing this for... You will be able to eat some of mama's good food soon, just not near as much as before.. She will be so proud of you when you are down to a healthy weight... I have cooked lots of sunday dinners since being banded.. I eat what I am supposed to and believe it or not my kids are eating healthier because they see how I am doing...Take care and keep your eye on the prize...

CG by jove I think your hubby just hit on something.. to make room for more.... we don't want room for more nor do we need to make room for more... I do not drink while eating and try to wait at least 30 min after.. so far it's working.. my motto "If it ain't broke don't fix it"....

Sharpie replied to deleteme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
one week is not long enough to recuperate and resume normal activities... hope you get some help with your children's activities too...Take care of yourself as best you can... -

StranGe Day
Sharpie commented on Deacon Blues's blog entry in Deacon Blues' Missives from the Fringe
So sorry for your loss... it sounds like a overwhelming time for you... recovering from surgery is difficult enough without the added stress.. You know why you had the surgery and how important it will be to your boys to have you around.. Everything will be fine with time.. losing your loved one's is one of the hardest things one can go through.. we have lost two children and a son in law in about 5 years time so I speak from experience... Take care of yourself first , the rest will follow. You are in my prayers... -
I have recently discovered Emilybites.com . She converts recipes to conform to weight watchers points and breaks down calories, protein, etc. I thought I would try something just to see if it was edible.. sometimes I am not the best at following recipes... okay so I made three things so far.. eggplant parmesan , was really good.. 4 pieces @ 153 calories .. my husband said it was as good as olive garden's?? wow.. I also made beef & brocoli, slowcooker.. 300 calories for 1 cup// taste as good as take out chinese.. then the best was beef braciole.. this is so good and it also cooks in the slow cooker.. if you get tired of eating the same ole stuff all the time, try this website.. If I can make this stuff anybody can...

absolutley wonderful for you...You must feel so proud...
-
I am sorry that someone was rude to you in that way.. Sadly I think our current society has some of the rudest and disrespectful people in it ever. I took grandkids to a rodeo one night.. grown men sitting behind us were f'ing this and f'ing that.. I finally had enough and stood up and asked them if they did not see the children? or do they kiss their mama with those mouths? they started to get smart with me about the time my 6'4 " son in law walked up... lol they shut up and moved..You hate to have confrontation with people but I think people are too scared to say anything to rude people.. thank goodness your friend wasn't scared... that's okay you know in your heart who is the best person and Karma is a interesting thing.. what goes around comes around eventually...

Tasty baby food flavors?
Sharpie replied to MaggieMay702's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
omg I did not find any baby food that was tasty.. it's gross.. don't know how babies eat it... I used to make my daughter's food in my blender .. it will puree enough for what you need... you can buy some soups and puree them.. I bought some baby food banana's and I had to choke them down.... -
How many calories dies anyoneget in a day ..
Sharpie replied to debpaige's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not track calories that early on. the first month to six weeks should concentrate on healing not so much worrying about weight loss... if you do what they told you as far as gradually going from liquid to creamy to mushy than regular foods you will lose.. you shouldn't have much of an appetite.. concentrating on protein is the best way to get enough nutrients.. drinking is super important so you don't get dehydrated. Good Luck.. take it easy and be patient... -
My Dr. tells me to stay on clear liquids for the day of the fill and the next day, then I can gradually start protein shakes, creamy liquids.. from there it's soft foods then normal food.. I think if you are eating cheese that soon it may be you're swollen and it's causing you to slime... call your dr. you don't want to do anything to cause your band harm..

I hope it changes the perception that all obese people are lazy.. and dumb or gluttons.. I also think the insurance coverage might be expanded.. hopefully more payment will be made for counseling, weight loss programs or nutritional programs..
