My prayers go out to your friends family... and to you.. losing a good friend is always difficult.. I had a friend who died from by pass surgery complications also.. He never felt good or healthy after his surgery.. actually had malnutrition.. he made me promise not to have by pass.. this is why I went with the lapband...
-
You will feel totally different in a week or two.. the first few days after surgery I thought I had made the biggest mistake of my life.. but, I survived and I am so happy I did.. I am 50 lbs lighter and 10 x healthier.. no more diabetes, high blood pressure or cholesterol...be patient with yourself and follow your Dr's instructions...

I can eat most things but I chose not to.. I had the worst stuck episode with japanese stir fried chicken.. it was white meat, no breading, just steamed with veggies but apparently it was too dry.. or something.. anyhow I haven't done that again.. Salad is not my best choice either but if I am careful and chew it alot I can eat it....

why did you choose lapband?
Sharpie replied to justjackie22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After exploring my options I decided like Missy that I wanted a less invasive surgery and less chance of serious , permanent problems such as dumping and malnutrition.. I had a close friend who went through some life threatening months in the hospital because he had a by pass and developed malnutrition... It is a big decision and requires some research.. Ask questions and attend as many seminar's and meetings as possible. My support group has by pass patients, sleeve patients and lapband.. by far the lapbanders have less problems... but it is ultimately up to you... -
I work at home also and it took a good week to 10 days for me to start feeling normal... get as much rest as possible in between working and make sure you drink and take your pain meds if need be.

I just got back from flying to Colorado from Fla. no problems... I also only drank water and I carried a protein bar or two wish me just in case we got stuck somewhere...I did not notice any tightening.. My Dr. would not give me a fill prior to my flight he says in case of problems I would not be close enough if I needed help...

Awesome post .... Change is a wonderful thing... and life is so short and precious to waste on eating crap . Wish I could get my husband to make me a garden but his idea of a small garden is 5 acres.. lol

Lapband vs. bypass why do people feel the need to judge
Sharpie replied to dolphintattoo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I belong to a support group which has by pass, sleeve and lapband patients.. it's very common for those who had by pass and sleeve to come and complain about their issues.. but band patients seem okay. but as everyone said there are problems and risk no matter what you do.. I chose the band because it was the best option for me ... not to please anyone else..not to lose rapidly... I feel good, have tons of energy and hopefully will continue to be successful... I try to stay away from the negative posts as much as possible... -
I haven't had issues with it.. I love coffee and I drink real coffee in the morning with half and half.. sometimes I will get a sugar free hazelnut iced coffee at Starbucks.. what kind of problem are you having? sleep problem or jittery? some people can't tolerate real coffee...
-
I applaud your effort and hope you are the one who will be successful.. I know from my past experience I lost 60 lbs and regained 75.. I am not sure why the band works except the restriction allows me to feel satisfied and in control so I know it has kept me at 50 lbs loss with no gains... I truly hope you come back and let us know how you are doing..
-
I was going to say it looks like your calorie intake is too low.. I would increase a little and take in more good clean protein..
-
so sorry to hear about your gallbladder .. the surgery for that is so easy now a days.. I had my gallbladder out years ago when they still cut you from one end to the other.. they simply suck it out your navel today.. you will have a easier recovery than from the band... take care

I had the worst stuck episode with chicken at a Japanese steak house... I can eat chicken thighs but not breast. even if I chew like crazy and eat slowly I still get stuck.. I have decided to stay away from white meat chicken..

Sharpie replied to dannygoody's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I have lost 50 lbs and now people are saying how much more are you gonna lose? I had a goal when I started and I am hoping to meet it.. yes people that know you as heavy think you are too thin when you lose a good deal of weight.. I am sticking to my plan ... -

Sharpie replied to RubyGina414's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
yes I am sure the flu would help with loss... I know when I was on hcg.. I lost a lb a day and that was drastic.. but it came back with a vengeance... make sure you are getting enough vitamins and water... -
vitamin D, multivitamins all gummy/chewy b12 is sublingual.. I have to take Crestor for now.. but my Dr. cut the dose in half so I cut the pill in half..

One Month Down 40lbs!!!!!
Sharpie replied to RubyGina414's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I would like to know how anyone loses 40# in a month.. that is 10 # a week.. If it's true you are a wonder woman of weight loss.. -
Aren't you just too cute... what a difference girl you have taken 20 years off of your age... I hope for continued success.. 80 lbs is a very good loss...

I live in the most humid State , Florida, no problems with band tightness.. IN fact I was worried about the change if I traveled.. I just got back from Colorado which has no humidity and did not notice any difference...
-
I am worried... throbbing pain? there was pain after surgery.. any abdominal surgery will be somewhat painful but I wouldn't call it throbbing.. Some people have a lower pain threshold than others but I would call my surgeon if I was in that much pain.... walking, drinking and make sure you take your pain meds before it becomes throbbing...

50 lbs ago.. I couldn't have enjoyed my vacation
Sharpie posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Just got back from my week long vacation in Colorado at the Dude Ranch... First I will say that 50 lbs ago I could not have done what I just did last week... I rode horses all day up and down the mountains.. We drove cattle, camped overnight in the mountains after riding 4 hours to get to the "cow camp"... The whole experience was very physical... walking to the barn each day was something I could not have done 50 lbs ago... I did gain a few lbs because the food was awsome but I didn't pig out.. They have everything to eat you would want... fruit, salads, breads, lots of beef (western) the best... fish and wonderful desserts.. I did not over indulge but I wasn't deprived.. I have lost the lbs I gained in just a few days.. (never could have done that before the band).... -
Her eggplant parm is awesome... my husband thinks it's better than Olive Garden... I also have made the slow cooker Braciole..
-
average loss with the band is 1-2 lbs a week it will be slow but if you follow the rules you will be successful....

So am I stuck or what?!
Sharpie replied to bsellis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is always recommended that you call your Dr. if it persists... I cannot do lettuce .. I sometimes can eat a little romaine.. but lettuce is not my friend.. really it doesn't have much nutritional value and definately doesn't have protein so I use my calories for better things.... I used to eat lots of salads and apparently it didn't make me lose any weight..lol . so, I would drink some protein drinks or liquids til the irritation gets better...
