What Is the Craziest Thing You’ve Ordered at a Restaurant?
Sharpie replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Food and Nutrition
went to subway ordered a scoop of tuna salad, no bread, no veggies. they were very nice about it and it was pretty cheap. I usually look at appetizers or Soups when I got to restaurants. If I have a friend with me we order one meal and split it. -
so sorry to hear about your marriage . I know that any change in the relationship can be difficult. weight loss by one spouse or the other can often lead to fear and dissolution of the marriage. I was very blessed to have a husband who was 100% supportive. sadly I lost him in October so I am now alone after 39 years . You can concentrate on your health and get involved in a new path of independence. living alone definitely takes adjustment. I have learned that being alone is not the hardest thing in life learning to live for yourself is difficult because if you were in a long term marriage or relationship you have concentrated on others more. I am 69 and I want to make the rest of my life as healthy and happy as I can.

haters gonna hate hate hate hate hate
Sharpie replied to rmarion's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
She is ignorant. I have a way of dealing with people like her that doesn't involve HR or anyone else.. You tell her in a polite yet stern way that if she says another word about your eating or not eating or anything else negative you will make her life a living hell. I was bullyed a lot when I was a kid, I was the smallest person in my class, but I learned that you cannot be bullied if you stand up to them. If she continues to harass you after your little talk, then embarrass her in front of coworkers, tell them how cruel she is. Then if all else fails you might file an official report but I would use that as a last resort. -
Had my band done Jan 2013, I was diabetic, had high cholesterol and high blood pressure, in other words I was a ticking time bomb. I had been on every diet known to man , shots, pills, nutrisystem, jenny craig, weight watchers, etc. lost tons of weight only to re-gain. my a1c was way over the normal limit. once I became banded I made up my mind to be successful and get my health under control. I have had close family members die from complications of diabetes and heart disease. I wish I had had my band many years ago but I am happy with the results. It takes patient compliance, it just doesn't do it by itself. Like B52 says, if the band tells you what to do, it's best to listen. I still forget to eat slowly sometimes but Miss Band lets me know about it. I am exercising 4 x a week and would like to lose a few more lbs. but I am extremely happy with my band.

So now that I'm maintaining a healthy size, I have an issue.
Sharpie replied to LipstickLady's topic in Rants & Raves
it's so funny to read these posts about shopping,, My daughter says shopping has become my new addiction.. I always had a shoe and handbag issue. my closet is full of them. I have donated some to hospice . my shoe size went from a 5 1/2 to 5 so the 5 1/2-6 shoes were sent to hospice. everytime I go into a store even Walmart I find myself looking at clothes. I have been going to a yoga class recently so of course I had to buy yoga pants and more shirts to go with them. But, after years of not being able to shop happily (always sad before I lost weight). I feel like I deserve to enjoy shopping again. I have slowed down some, don't shop as much now that my weight has stayed the same for awhile. My Best Friend and I love to shop together, good thing she lives 3 hours from me. -

I have had horses for 35 or 40 years. I had gotten to the point of not riding because I was too heavy and too tired. My horse is 15.1 and I am only 5'0 so I have always used a mounting block, a tree stump or whatever is available to mount. we used to ride up in Ga. and he actually would stop half way up a long steep trail and look around at me like "Really?". so since losing my weight he is happier and so am I. I also love to go to different parts of the Country and ride at the dude ranches. My BFF and I have gone to Wyoming, Colorado and now we have a trip planned to Canada to the Canadian rockies. I feel like a kid again and love my horses. It is truly a joy to be small enough to enjoy riding again. that was a true benefit of all of the work. I hope I am able to ride for many more years.

positive band stories are what I look for. I know that not everyone is successful for one reason or other. I have the deepest sympathy for anyone who has serious complications. I am however so grateful that I made the decision to change my life and become healthier and happier. I had my lapband Jan. 15, 2013. At age 66 I had come to the realization that my health was taking a turn that might be irrepairable. Diabetes was worsening, high blood pressure and high cholesterol was threatening my life. My Primary Doctor knew I had tried for many years to lose weight . I had tried every weight loss program and even had a personal trainer. I lost weight but never was able to maintain the loss long enough to change my health issues. Weight loss surgery of any kind is not a guarantee for success but I will say that having my band as a tool has helped me maintain my loss for over 3 years. I hope to see more successful outcomes for everyone. No matter what surgery you choose, the important part is you have taken that step forward to a better life.

Vacation season...What are your plans?
Sharpie replied to Healthy_life2's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
going to a dude ranch in Canada in September. My BFF and I went to Colorado in 2014, and Wyoming in 2012, had so much fun. I was banded in 2013 so the Colorado trip was easier on my body . I am looking forward to going to Canada too. We are flying from Florida to Montana and going to Glacier Nat'l Park then driving to Canada to spend a week on the ranch. We have two other gals going with us so it will be a great old gals gone wild week. -
Not telling people about your surgery is a "half truth" or a "lie" steams me like a pile of fresh cow dung...
Sharpie replied to LipstickLady's topic in Rants & Raves
If someone remarks "How did you get so thin?" I tell them I had weight loss surgery, I have had mostly positive feedback, once in awhile a so called "weight loss expert" (who usually isn't very thin) remarks about how I took the easy way out. I just say well if you haven't done it you don't know. I am not ashamed to tell people about my surgery. I also don't try to talk anyone into doing the same. Advice is given if asked for. I have never been the kind of person who cares what people think really, so it's easy for me to blow off the negative nellies. I try to be myself no matter what. I know why I did what I did and how I accomplished my goal and how much it improved my health and yes my looks. -
I watched Zalynn too she has come a long way. She had a 360 deg. surgery, looked rough, she had a hard recovery from what I could tell but she looks good. Her and Paula Jones have been inspirational. Both were so strong. I can't complain about my small challenges compared to theirs. I may have to have skin surgery down the road, I have a skin apron too but not as large as Zalynn's. Not sure at my age if it's worth it.

I have had a rare soda, not many in the last 3 years but a few times, I do not however use straws and I try not to drink anything carbonated. I didn't die from the soda but my Dr. was specific about do's and don't's so I don't push that much. slept in my recliner and it has electric recline so it was nice to get up and out of. take it easy, drink as much as you can, use a heating pad on your shoulder pain and don't worry about eating or anything just get better. It was about a week or so before I felt kinda normal. it's been over 3 years so it's hard to remember but I am still happy that I did it. Best of luck to you.

Surgery woes: Grandpa begged me not to have the surgery
Sharpie replied to crazygoose's topic in Rants & Raves
if Grandpa's friend had weight loss surgery some time ago, I doubt he died from complications from weight loss surgery. they have perfected the surgeries so much today. things are done less invasive and they make sure you are doing well before you go home. If nothing else contact a nursing service, ask at the hospital for a agency that might provide you transportation and help at home. I live in Florida or I would come and help. It's important for you to not stress, follow your Dr's instructions and think how wonderful you are going to feel when you have lost weight and gotten healthy. It was the best thing I have ever done, at age 66 I was heading for major health issues when I made the decision to take control. Best of luck to you honey and please let us know how you are doing. If you have any questions there are tons of people here who have been there, done that. You will be in my prayers. -
You are experiencing the pre surgery doubts. I almost jumped off the gurney in pre-op area I was so scared. However, 3 years later I am healthier and happier than I have been in years. You will not really be concerned with food at first, your brain tells you that you want the food but your system won't let you eat it. As time goes on you will learn what you can and can't eat. I can eat most foods except, really dry meats like white meat chicken, I eat dark meat it's juicier. I also cannot eat white rice but it's a good trade off for being completely diabetes free and no cholesterol problems or high blood pressure meds. your main concern will be learning to eat small portions and slowly, If you need to get a sedative or something to calm your nerves before surgery ask your Dr. depending on what type of surgery you have recovery is relatively easy, follow all the instructions they give you and for the first few weeks, get lots of rest and stay hydrated. Best of Luck .

Wendy's Chili, Chic Fil A chicken tortilla Soup. Also on occasion I get the yogurt parfair at McDonald's.. can't eat burgers or fries.

You look wonderful. I had my lapband surgery 3 years and 3 months ago. I no longer have diabetes which was one of the reasons I desperately wanted to lose weight. I take no medications for any health issues. I only take Vitamin D, B12, and a multi vitamin each day. I love being able to wear nice clothes and shop and enjoy going with friends I was almost immobile at the time of my surgery . My Dr. says you are a healthy 69 year old. I have been able to maintain my weight loss which is something I was not able to do before. Glad you are happy with your band.

Lap Band over Bypass Revision
Sharpie replied to kbell524's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I have friends who have had the band over bypass and have done very well. I had my band placed in January 2013. It was he best thing I have ever done. the fills and checkups are actually a way to keep you in check. I have not had to get a fill for over a year but I go about every 6 months or so to see if everything is okay. I have not had any complications and am healthier than I have been in years. All WLS has it's risks but as you know after having bypass there is always a certain amount of patient compliance. Best of luck to you. -
so sorry to hear about your leg.. I know my legs ache like bursitis since I lost weight. I have been going to yoga and light exercise classes seems to help but not sure why that happened since I lost weight? I haven't asked my pcp about it yet but will probably have to. I have to take Tylenol arthritis formula every day . I hope yours is resolved and you do not have fibromyalgia.

Debbie no better way to spend your money.. Everyone deserves to have a beautiful smile.. I had to spend about 6,000 this year because I had some issues with my teeth too. You need to focus on what makes you happy and confident. You look great by the way. You don't have to tell your children how you spend your own money.

I was given a card too however I have ordered kids meals before and haven't had a problem. Also, kids meals are generally not very good for you. Chicken Strips, mac n cheese, etc. I sometimes just order an appetizer or soup and salad . I was at a Red Robin's Restaurant and asked the server about a small portion explained why and he lit up like a Christmas tree, he said OMG I had weight loss surgery too and have lost 100 lbs. I told him how proud I was of him and he made some suggestions form the menu for me. I have not had any restaurant refuse my request.

I had siracha chicken today it was great. first time and I'm hooked. I had 1 1/2 chicken strip with siracha and I was happy and content. I really like the flavor.. can I buy it already made?
