Day 5 Post-Op Heartburn, Refluz And Indigestion.
Lorrie Knox Malone replied to midnightmama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why is it that being sleeved gives us heartburn? I never had heartburn or reflux in my life now 3wks post sleeve, I have it all the time. Why is that? -
I haven't tried melon yet...no problem with blueberries, tart bl. cherries and pinapple.

Does Reflux With Band = Reflux With The Sleeve?
Lorrie Knox Malone replied to PJ_Sleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I never had reflux with the band, but OMG do I have it now! -
Hi Yes I am vegitarian. I was vegan before being sleeved, but am finding it hard to tollate the raw veggs and the plant Protein powders are not agreeing w/my new tummy YET> So I added organic greek yogurt, a good quilty whey protein , some fish, and lots of Beans. I feel great, considering 2 wks post op.

Loose Way More Weight With Low Carb
Lorrie Knox Malone replied to joyfuljoy's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I so totally agree with what you've been explaining. I am a band to sleeve, post op 2weeks. I was vegan before the sleeve but had some trouble w/the raw veggies after surgery, so I've added organic greek yogurt, whey Protein...it's a good quilty..but still, not my favorite. till I can tollate raw veggies again. But I agree if you are going to work out and strenght train you're body needs the good carbs to give you energy. Low carb high protein diets are not healthy. Eat whole foods organic when you can. Have you ever the book "The China Study"? Great read. -
Juicing And The Sleeve
Lorrie Knox Malone replied to Natty76's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Everybody, I'm 2 wks post op and I've found my tastes have changed. I use to do a really healthy green smoothie every morning, now it makes me nasuas, I'm hoping its just the raw veg and once I'm more healed will be able to enjoy it again. Been doing a good quilty whey protein and organic greek yogurt instead. More calories, but I figured at this point I'm really not getting in many calories at all. Anyone have an opion or thoughts on this? I'm feeling much better, but still not myself, -

I would love to have a coach! Tried joining on the web site but keeps rejecting my Text Verification...tried a dozen times. Maybe it's just the site.

Juicing And The Sleeve
Lorrie Knox Malone replied to Natty76's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all, I am scheduled for surgery 7/13...I know...friday the 13th! sucks, but my surgeon said he's fine with it, won't be the first time. So I'm not concerned. I am starting the low fat liquids tomorrow for the week, I have a Vitamix blender and a Champion juicer, I love them. I have made home made tomato soup, oat meal smoothie, vegg smoothie, I am so excited to get started, I have the band, since 2008, but its slipped and is ready to come out. It's done it's job Ive maintained a solid 60lb weight loss for 4yrs. The band cant do anymore then it has for me. So my surgeon is confident w/the sleeve for me....I am so excited!! I am a relaxed vegan...I am adding organic greek yogurt to my diet for pre and post op...and probably for at least the first yr. Untll I feel out of the woods w/healing and all that involves...Did I mention I am sooooo excited!!!! Bring it on!! I am so glad to have stumpled across this group. Would love to share notes and thoughts -
Back pain? extra gas?
Lorrie Knox Malone replied to illinoishusker's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded in May of 08'. I have 2 friends who are also over a year out of surgery. We have all experienced the pains being described here. We have all assoicated it gas ! It can get to be debillitating (sp). I have tried heating pads, walking, but the best thing we have all found that works the best is simply taking gas x at the very first sign of the pain, once the gas x gets to working it gets the gas moving and out, once out, the pain is over. We wonder if it's not more common place then we think. any one else experience this that are over a year out? -
I dont know what to do!!!!!
Lorrie Knox Malone replied to liteweighttrina's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My understanding is, as you loose weight, you loose fat around you stomach (inside) which is under the band and that is why the band loosens up as time goes buy. You loose fat, the band loosens. And from what my Dr says, the last few ccs will be the ones that count, so they are given much more slowly. You just have to have trust in your Dr. They have been doing this for years and knows what works. -
I dont know what to do!!!!!
Lorrie Knox Malone replied to liteweighttrina's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow, sounds as if your Dr is very conservitive w/his fills. My surgery was 5/27, my Dr put 3cc in at the time of surgery, 7wks later he added 3cc more, 4 weeks later (2nd fill) 2cc's. I now have a total of 8ccs in a 9cc band and have had restriction all along, it eases up by the time I go back for a fill but lastes for at least 3 weeks. I've lost a total of 42lbs. I LOVE MY BAND and my Dr. I was worried at first because of the aggressive rate he does the fills, but like he said are you here to loose weight or tip toe around it all? I'm here to loose. He also said the last 1 to 2 ccs are the icing on the cake and are done more slowly, which makes sense, I am not at my sweet spot but I'm very close to it. -
Super Restricted in the morning???
Lorrie Knox Malone replied to Raeband's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, I am very restricted in the am. I had my surgery May 27th, just had my first fill last week. I always have my protein drink for breakfast and I can feel it sitting for a few seconds before it goes through the band. I save any solid food for later in the morning. I read on here, to try drinking something warm when you get up, before anything else. So I gave it a try this morning and it did seem to help some. But a small discomfort to pay for what the band is doing. My portions have dropped more then 1/2 since my fill. I love this band. -
7 days after band and loving it!!!!!
Lorrie Knox Malone replied to monicasf's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Monicasf, I got banded May 27th and also feel GREAT. Never a moment of nausea, or pain, I've lost a total of 29lbs since surgery day and still loosing. It has slowed down, especially now that I am very comfortable w/solid foods, but still going down each week. I go for my first fill July 18th and I can't wait. I do feel like I am starting to see old habits stick their mean ole heads up, but I just have to remember, eat healthy, even you have to eat more, make it healthy,(low carb, low fat, no sugar, high protien) My period was about 4 days late, and I am always 28 days every month, no fail. So be patient, you've been through surgery and that was stressful, so give you body time to catch up. This has been the best thing I have ever done for myself. I'm not able to eat the size portions I use to before the band, so I know things are working in there, even w/out the fill yet. :tt2: -

Fitday.com vs TheDailyPlate.com
Lorrie Knox Malone replied to LundyLane's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Has anyone tried SparkPeople.com? They let you enter your own foods & nutritional values. Log your fitness, measurements ect. All Free. I checked out MyPlate but didn't want to re-enter all the entries I already have in SparkPeople. But it looked like a good site to track your meals. -
I'm confused on the purpose of the band
Lorrie Knox Malone replied to wurly's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Think of it like an hourglass, even small grains of salt move easily through the opening, just at a much slower rate then if there were no narrow opening. I often thought the same thing, till you think about it. I can even feel plain water when I drink it, it sits in my pouch of a few seconds before completely decending through.
