Tips to ease the pain of coming off caffeine???
JenWis6 replied to Food_vs_Life's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My withdrawl lasted about 3-4 days and was done. I too drank A LOT of soda and even coffee everyday. Now that I had my surgery and haven't had soda since November 2012 I don't miss it. After all the headaches and crankiness during my withdrawl stage there is no way I would go back. Good luck with your surgery!! -
I was worried when I had my first fill too and when my Dr. was done I didn't even know it. They will numb you up before and you won't feel a thing.

40 pounds down n still more to go !

Congratulations!! Keep on doing what you are doing. -
That is awesome. Congrats!!

We have actually taken out all of our large plates and bowls and have exchanged them for smaller ones. We also bough some kids divided plates from the Dollar Store that I use for my meals. Both my husband and I came to the conclusion that there is no need for the large plates anymore. When I go out for dinner at a restaurant I always ask for a to-go box as soon as my food comes out and put at least half if not more in there right away. Out of sight, out of mind is my motto. It is amazing how your perspectives change.

I was banded on November 30th, 2012 and have signed up to do the Dirty Girl Mud Run in August. Have NEVER done anything like this but since this is the year of the "new" me I figured why not. I would also like to run/walk a 5K and maybe do one at Disney World as a "yay" me achievement some time. Great job on the downhill skiing!!

I had that problem for a while after being banded and will have that issue for a week or two after fills. I think I am just so used to it that I don't even notice it any more.

Almost a year!!! Slow, slow, slow.....

Hang in there. It is amazing how much a small gland in your body can reek such havok on your hormones. My Thyroid went bad 2 years ago and I was told that once you get your meds right it could take at least 6-8 months to start seeing any weight loss. Don't give up, you can beat this bump in the road. An inspiring quote I have all around my house is "Keep moving forward" ~Walt Disney. -
How much exercise is everyone getting?
JenWis6 replied to nikils015's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have 4 young kids so finding time to exercise can be difficult. Sometimes I feel that I don't stop during the day chasing my kids, cleaning house, climbing the 3 levels in my house, etc. Sometimes I just chalk that up to 60 minutes of moderate exercise. Do this as a lifestyle change and not a weightloss program. Good luck. -
I agree with the previous poster. I am finding now that I watch so carefully what I eat I tend to jump on those who are trying to "sabotage" me even when they are not doing it consciously. When I had my psych eval before surgery he asked me who in my life would sabotage me purposely or not and I honestly didn't think anyone would. Boy was I wrong. You did the right thing just taking the small piece of ice cream cake and giving the rest of the sweets away. Well done!! Good luck in your new position.

Congratulations that is so awesome!! Enjoy this magical time of preparing for your wedding and love the new you.

Hi all. Need a little advice from you all. I am 8 weeks post op and have not had a single drink of soda. (Which was a necessity for me before surgery). My husband and I both drink coffee though and find we are wasting a lot because he has been having regular coffee and me decaf. We are thinking of going to 50/50 to not waste as much and to still allow him SOME caffeine. I know they say no caffeine postop, but would 50/50 coffee really hurt? I tend to have a cup or two each morning. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks so much!!

I live just north of Milwaukee and they were covering it on the news. The building had restarted on fire so they were there again this morning trying to extinguish the flames. Amazing how a fire can keep going with that much ice surrounding it.
-
Thanks all. My doctor is REALLY laid back so I think we will switch to the 50/50 and I will tell him next week when I go in for a fill. Love coming here for advice. Great having you guys here!!

My husband works for Sargento Foods and they have both a variety of lowfat cheese sticks (sting cheese, cheddar, and mixed) as well as a variety of lowfat shredded cheese. Watch for their sales and you can get them for a pretty good price.

One thing I was told by one of my nutritionists is that plus size clothes are able to fit a wider range. If you loose 30 pound as a size say 14 you will drop a couple sizes, but that same weight loss in larger sizes will take a little longer. I am down 40 pounds and still wearing the same size too. I am getting close to going down the next size though. Keep up the good work!!

Hi all. I am 5 1/2 weeks post-op from my surgery and have yet to get any fills. I see my Dr. next Tuesday for a postop visit and we are going to talk whether or not I need a fill at that time. Everyone, including my doctor, asks me if I have felt restriction yet. I do not believe I have. I am a strict rule follower and have been following my diet set up by my nutritionist (1000-1200 cals per day, 60 g protein). Will I know when I feel restriction? I have no clue what to be expecting. I am assuming my band is working since I am continuing to take 1-3 pounds off a week and I am rarely hungry. Thanks for any thoughts/help.

No fill-Never felt restriction

Thanks so much everyone for the replies. Makes me feel better. I am loving my lapband and have been so excited for my results. Hopefully the pounds just keep coming off. I have a new sundress, 2 sizes smaller than what I wear, hanging in my closet waiting to be worn this summer. :) -
I use an old digital Weight Watchers scale that I bought during my many attempts at loosing. I would recommend getting a digital one though.

Infected stitch/5 weeks out
JenWis6 replied to JerseyShoreDisneyDiva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks so much for posting this question. I too am 5 weeks postop and am seeing one of my incision sites getting red. Not tender, but raised and red. See my Dr. next week. I will keep applying my Neosporin. -
Trying to balance my new respect for nutrition and having a 5yo
JenWis6 replied to marly7's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I hear you on your worries. I have 2 boys 6 and 9 that are bottomless pits and could eat all day long if I let them. I am trying to impliment the healthier foods into their diets but they like their sweets too. They are more active in sports and school that I ever was at their ages. My husband told me to let it be. As long as they are active they will be fine. I am always afraid that I will give them that bad image complex and I don't want that for them too. They need to be kids and not worry about being overweight at this time in their lives. Just keep doing what you are doing. -
Was told by my nurse whenever I felt up to it.

Two week post-op appointment
JenWis6 replied to JerseyShoreDisneyDiva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats to you on your post op appointment. I got the same go ahead from my doctor. Never thought chewing soft foods could be so heavenly. Congrats on your weight loss so far too!! Keep it up. P.S. my port site is really sore too and was even more so after yesterday's visit when he checked to find it. Did a lot of pressing. Good luck!! -
Wahoo!! Heading in for my 2 week postop appointment today. Cannot believe I have made it this far. It had been rough but SO worth it. Hoping my doctor won't be too upset that I started mushies yesterday versus waiting for his okay today. I was finding that the liquid no longer filled me up (even with protein shakes) and I was needing more. Tolerating everything so far. Excited to begin the next stage of my new adventure.

I was told by my Dietician that I could have sugar free gum. Just make sure not to swallow
