Good or bad idea to get a fill before vacation??
heidijane posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Everyone, Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide. I received my first fill (5cc in a 11cc band) on January 8th, don't really feel restriction yet but still only eating about 1000 calories a day and feel satisfied with that. Additionally i only eat about 3 times a day and don't get too hungry in between. I have another fill scheduled for January 31st and I leave for vacation on February 2nd. My Dr. stated that he would fill with 1.5CC. I am worried that i will all of a sudden get too tight and then be away from my Dr if I need to have a quick unfill? How often does it happen that people get too tight and can't swallow Water, just wondering if i should postpone even though i am not in the green zone yet. Thanks! -
Good or bad idea to get a fill before vacation??

Thanks all for your replys I am tending to agree. Floridays you mentioned feeling satisfied with a cup of food....not always. I do stick between 1000-1200 calories of mostly protein and feel satisfied but often i will add a bunch of veggies with that to help me fill up and dinner time is usually two cups. Thank you all, you all give great advice, it is appreciated! -
Hi There, I had this same issue when i first started but i realized i was starting out to fast. Slow it down a bit and focus on slow and steady, almost like a brisk walk instead of a full out run. Doing this I could go about 30 mins the first few times....give it a try, and congratulations on incorporating the exercise into your day, good for you!!

Terrific idea, I will definately be trying when i get to this stage in a couple of weeks. Thanks for sharing, it is appreciated -
HI Everyone I am newly banded (3 weeks out) and am now allowed mushy foods. My nutritionist gave me a ton of information on what I could eat with regards to this, HOWEVER I admittedly did not read thoroughly and I had some refried Beans (low fat), I did NOT have any issues and it was rather tasty for a change . Today I was re reading the nutrionist information again today and it is written specifically DO NOT EAT BEANS. My dad had gastric bypass and this was some mushy food he ate so got the idea from him, also i see several others on forum that eat these as well. Just wondering if someone else was given this direction and why? I didn't mean not to follow the direction just wasn't careful enough. Thanks for your thoughts.

Great post! BTW i would not give up on the motivational speaker thing, you motivated me and i am sure many other people . Best to you!! -
Thanks Everyone, when i do find out the answer i will let you know! The only thing i could guess was maybe the amount of gas they may cause in my tummy could cause problems...

Awww...bless your heart! Celebrate, you've got to feel like a million bucks!! Congrats.

I am so sorry that you feel so bad!! I know it can be so difficult adjusting to social situations without doing what we used to do like drinking and eating too much. I am only 2 weeks out post op and during the holidays it has been difficult to say no. Just curious, how far out are you that this has caused such a problem for you? My guess is the sugar in the rum punch and high fat content in the mac and cheese was just too rich for your new tummy. Hope you are feeling better soon!

Congrats to you, i hope everything else is going well for you. With regards to the soreness and the stitch, i would call the dr.s office and ask to speak to the nurse to see if this is normal at this stage in the game. I am only 2 weeks out so couldn't tell you, but that is what i would do. Good luck to you!

Surgery Down Time
heidijane replied to fashionstylist's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I would plan for at least a week. I felt like i could go back to work on week 8, albeit still very tired. My dr. told me no less than 2 weeks off though. Good luck to you! -
Feeling Down After Surgery!!!
heidijane replied to lalinda1236's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Everyone,I am glad to read this post. I am better with the gas but I my surgery was done 11/27. My only complaint now is hunger! Yesterday was the worst I cried off and on, so mad at myself for not being able to control the hunger pain. I am on liquids for 2 weeks post op and that is the worst. My nutritionist only discussed with me the fact that I should try to get as much protein in as possible, she never spoke about the hunger. I guess i just assumed i would not be hungry. I will get through this as will everyone else it just sucks right now! -
A Week Later . How Is Everyone Feeling?
heidijane replied to duncanrum's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was doing about 2-3 shakes a day all last week and this weekend, however yesterday I did 4 and today I have already had 2 1/2. I don't have powdered shakes so not mixing with anything. I do mostly atkins protein shakes (they taste good and have 15 grams of protein) I feel like i can't fill up! My Dr. did not give me guidelines on calories but said to drink 60-70 grams of protein per day. Glad to read i am not the only one so hungry . I may do some campbells tomato or creamy chicken soup mixed well with skim milk if i can't take it...I think it is just a bad day and i will feel better tomorrow. Thanks for the encouragement, i hope you enjoy your mashed potatoes -

Congratulations on feeling better and the weight loss! I am down about 8lbs just from the surgery. Not to be a Debbie downer but last week was easier for me....Today i am so hungry i could scream! I didn't know the hunger pains would be this strong, i am hoping it is just a bad day. The first week I didn't feel like eating but starting yesterday i was quite hungry and the protein drinks aren't cutting it (I am eating about 60 grams of protein and drinking lots of water). My cals are about 500 (maybe a little more today). I am glad you get to go on mushies thursday, I need to wait until my first appt next wednesday:-(. I may sneak in some greek yogurt or cottage cheese before then. Wish I could say i was doing better, but today is not good . Thanks for the post, hope all continues to go well for you! -
Please Tell What You Are Drinking!
heidijane replied to SkinnyCubanChick's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You may want to try this soup I found on Amazon.com called Protidiet creamy chicken. It has 70 calories and 15 grams of protein and you mix with hot water. I am on liquids to and needed something other than sweet. It hits the spot and because you are eating with a spoon makes you feel like you are eating a meal l can't wait until the mushy phase. -
First Follow Up And Weigh In!!!
heidijane replied to kkmonroe79's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, that is outstanding!! I know it was hard! I am going on my 2nd week post op and am starving.....How many calories were you eating (approximately)? I am about 12 lbs down since surgery. Very happy for you -
Hi Everyone, I am new to the site, but love it! I had my surgery on 11/27 have been able to eat about 30 grams of protein each day (16 oz of fluid) and about 45 ounces of water. I am exhausted and keep reading about people that feel great and lots of energy, also I think I may be feeling a bit blue due to the mental changes I am accomodating to, and want t.. Will I eventually feel better, I am trying to do the 60 ounces of liquid protein recommended by my surgeon. Thanks for any assistance, this forum is wonderful!!

Newly Banded 11/26 Lots Of Hunger Pains
heidijane replied to jdowns66's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel your pain . I too was banded on 11/27 and due to the swelling really wasn't hungry until saturday and then it was overwhelming! I got really cranky with my hubby for making his dinner and making me smell it, I made him eat it upstairs-LOL. This forum is so helpful because it sounds like everyone is hungry during this phase and we just have to bite the bullet. We WILL get thru this and be better for it. I can't wait until mushies phase this weekend tho!! FIll is suppose to be 6 weeks from surgery date. Best of luck to you and everyone getting through this starvation phase. -

How Did You Get Fat???
heidijane replied to Mayasgram's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was just banded on 11/27 and have been thinking a lot about this...First, I love food and think that is what i always told myself. I know it is more than that and am still pondering. For some reason when i was thinner i felt very uncomfortable having attention regarding my looks, i felt safer heavier...weird huh? I am older now in my 40s with more self awareness and believe this will not be an issue any longer. I am doing this to feel better the looking good thing is just a bonus.
