    LAPBAND DIDN'T WORK FOR ME

In short: Did the LapBand fail you or did you fail the LapBand?
  2. It'sTime

    So hard :(

Nobody said it would be easy! Remember, you haven't had a full yet though, so you still have some time to get to your green zone. Do hang in there!!!

    LAPBAND DIDN'T WORK FOR ME

If the LabBand didn't work for you that's too bad, but individuals need to make their own decisions. I always find these and other kinds of posts like it quite interesting. So you didn't lose weight with the band? That doesn't mean it's the bands fault, the band is a failure, or others shouldn't have a procedure that could dramatically increase their quality of life or even save their life. Weight loss is simple math. Consume less calories than you take in and you will lose weight. The band (when used properly) is a tool to help you consume less calories. If you get the band then cheat on it, then don't expect it to work any better than a marriage when there is cheating going on there. If you gorge on slider foods: high calorie sugary drinks, milkshakes, ice cream, etc. when you have the band, then you are not going to succeed. Is that the band's fault? I don't hardly think so. Weight loss, even with the band, is truly multi-faceted. If there are psychological or other addiction problems causing you to overeat while you have the band, there is certainly help out there for that. But if your overall goal is to lose weight, and you are gaining weight with the band, do you really think you are going to succeed without the band? What if you have it removed and then gain weight twice as fast as you did with the band?
  4. The LapBand surgery itself for me was a breeze; however, those nurses were brutal to me trying to get that IV started. They poked me 6 times!!! When they finally did get the I.V. started, this is what I've been left with. I told them the last time, you either get it started this time or I'm getting up and walking out of this place.

    Gained :( unfill

You are going to do great! You're gonna work with your doc to get your band in the green zone so this don't happen again. Then that fat will melt off faster than a knife fight in a phone booth.

    cheated already!!! Help!!!

I think you need to contact your doctors office and be honest with them about the status of your pre-op diet and see what they say. My pre-op day was only 5 days but I followed that baby stricter than a nun teaching at Catholic School. The reason for the pre-op diet is primarily safety for your surgery. Since they are doing a laparoscopic procedure, they need your liver to shrink. The easiest way to do that quickly is to go on a strict diet so your fat from your liver starts to dissipate. If you call your doctor they will tell you whether your surgery is a go if you follow the diet from here on out or if they will need to reschedule. But for your piece of mind, and safety, you need to call the docs office and have a chat.

    Weight loss

As long as you didn't wash it down with a big old Mountain Dew I'd say you're in good shape.

    Band to sleeve?

If I'm understanding your post correctly you're considering abandoning the LapBand for a more risky surgery over 8 lbs? No thanks.

    I am Finally Loving Me!!

That's great! Congratulations! Do keep up the good work!

    Under 300

    OMG!!! Awesome!!!
  11. Another LapBand success story! Congratulations!

    Have to start over...WFT?!?!!!!!

It's so worth it. My weight loss journey with LapBand was almost three years, and I just had surgery on Monday. If you're obese and have a new child who needs you, is it worth it to not go through the motions again?

    Any bandings in May????

LizzyTish, My doctor offered me something at the hospital if I wanted it for the anxiety. I think many of them do.

    Any bandings in May????

Congratulations on getting your band tomorrow!!! We are all here to help and support you so don't hesitate to lean upon us!!! Day two post-op was by far the worst for me. The rest of it was a piece if cake.

    Fill #1

Wait the 30 days. Remember weight loss with the LapBand is a marathon and not a sprint. Slow and steady and you'll make it to the finish line!

    Nervous

Most of the LapBand horror stories are from people who didn't have the discipline to stop eating things they weren't supposed to (i.e., carbonated beverages, which will cause extreme stomach pain with the LapBand). The surgery is extremely safe compared to other forms of weight loss surgery. You've seen the before and after photos on this website of people who've had significant weight loss with this procedure. One of the most common problems with the band before was slippage (again, mostly caused from those abusing their diet). However, the LapBand procedure has been modernized where they now stitch the band into place to keep it from slipping. If you're not careful and you start reading those horror stories about the LapBand, you may very well talk yourself out of a procedure that could of saved your life.

    Nervous

Haters gonna hate and bandsters gonna lose weight!!!! If you're not ready to commit to the things you need to do, then you will be creating your own horror stories. 93% of patients are glad they had the LapBand surgery. Most of them wish they would have had it sooner! If you want to be obese, have high cholesterol, joint pain, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, and diabetes then LBS is not for you. If you want to be skinny and healthy, where's the horror in LBS?

    Need advice

Day two was much worse for me than day one. On day two, I had enough gas to fill up an entire fleet of semi trailers. But today is my day 3 post- op and I'm doing much better today than yesterday. Just keep up on your pain medicines and that will hope you coast through it. Getting the required amounts of Protein will help your body heal faster. I know it's not easy after the surgery, but really do your best to get the Proteins you need.
  19. OMG!!! Congratulations to you! I just went under the knife on Monday myself. For me, the first day was a breeze compared to the second day. I think maybe because by the second day, all the pain meds from the surgery itself had worn off. So I took it really easy yesterday, but I think it's all downhill from here, because I felt much better today (day 3 post-op). Compared to other surgeries I've had, LBS was a piece of cake.

    No Fill Today;-(

Oh dear, if you're losing 14 lbs a month, that's very rapid weight loss. I bet a pound of fat just melted right off of you while I wrote this message! Please remember this is a marathon and not a sprint. I know you wanted a fill, but if you're losing weight like that, you are well on your way! And remember, haters gonna hate and bandsters, they gonna lose weight!!!

    Stairs after surgery?

Just had surgery on Monday and had no problems whatsoever doing stairs.

    in need of a buddy

I'm being for real. It's day two and my tummy is tender and I'm pretty weak, but I was really expecting to be in so much more pain than what I am. I know everybody has different tolerances to pain and different surgical experiences to compare it to. But compared to having back surgery or having your tonsils removed, this has really been a piece of cake for me.

180 pounds lost in 11 months

    That is incredible!
  24. Dear Weight Loss Comrades: I survived my LapBand surgery today and surprisingly, I feel great. I was really expecting to be in more pain than what I am. Went in for the surgery at 6 a.m. Surgery performed 7:30 a.m. Discharged at 11 a.m. The incisions are very tiny. With the exception of some really mild stomach discomfort (which is alleviated with my heated blanket), I feel great for having underwent surgery. Again, I was really expecting to be in a lot more pain than I am. Haven't regretted anything. I already lost 14 pounds just from having been on the pre-op liquid diet. This is so worth it!!!
