    Port Bugs Me

I can't even find my port as it is covered up maybe with a layer of fat, but my PA had to show me where it was when I got my first fill about 3 days ago.

    Pudding

After full liquids I advanced to Mushy and was allowed sugar free pudding. For me it can be a trigger food and I found I was eating too much at a setting and going back for me. So, I have to be careful of it.
  3. My doctor said no gum so I suck tiktak's. I have a tendency to swallow gum and that would not work well with band. I have had one fill after 6 weeks. I had 2 cc's at surgery and had some hunger, but have noticed a little increase in hunger since the fill earlier this week. I have been on 2 days of liquid and 2 days mushy foods so go on real food tomorrow and maybe that will help. It takes time.
  4. We must have been in OR's at the same time, in different hospitals, on 2/19 as that is the day I got banded. My doctor put about 2 cc's in at surgery and after 3 weeks of liquid and 3 weeks of mushie foods I had my first fill. My PA sprays a cold substance on the area around the port and then you don't really feel the needle. There is some pressure when the plunger is pushed to send the fluid up the line to the band but it only takes a minute or so. No pain afterward either.

    When Do you Get Fills?

Had my first fill 6 weeks after surgery. I have to be on liquid 2 days after fill and then mushy food for a day or two and then I get to try my first real food in about 1.5 days. My doctor put in 2 cc's of fluid at time of surgery, then 2 cc's this week. Will go back in one month to see if I need another fill.

    Gurgling

I got my band on Feb 19 and it gurgles at me too. If I drink a little too much or to big of a gulp I will get "feedback." It sometimes gurgles to say "FEED ME!" if I have gone more than 3 hours between meals. I giggle to myself when I hear it.
  7. I was told that if I developed a cough after I was in the hospital I was to call my surgeon's office. I did have a cough but I cough due to asthma and copd. The cough did not continue after about 3 hours of getting home.. I did have a temp and called about that but was told since it had gone down and cough had not continued I was OK and have been since day one.
  8. the first week I was not taking in enough Protein but increased that to 3oz every hour and Water and crystal lite. Now into week 3 I am so sick of drinking I am sure I am not getting enough protein. This AM felt really run down, but picked up the protein and have had about 9 oz so far and feeling better. I have even gone out to Breakfast with friends and watched them eat and only drunk tea with no craving. Just want to stab some food with a fork is all. Good luck, this too shall pass.
  9. I gained all my pre op loss, about 8 pounds, while in hospital with the IV's and stuff. It took about 5 or six days to get unbloated and all the weight went in one day. 2 weeks and 4 days into this and have lost 20 pounds. It does get better.
  10. jOne more week of post op liquids. I don't crave any certain foods, but just want to be able to stab my food with a fork. Got some of the soups from the doctor's office and that has helped. Support groups are good too. Don't cheat and keep up the good work.

    Two Weeks Post-op

I am 2 weeks and 2 days post surgery and I have dropped 20 pounds. Yes, on the pants and shirts. Had to toss one pair of pants into give away bag because the seat was so baggy. Good luck and keep posting results.
  12. Actually not too bad. I lost 8 pounds pre op and gained it all back because of the IV so it took me a few days to get rid of that and start losing the weight. Today I am 2 weeks post op and have lost 20 pounds. You might want to talk to your dietitian about your protein intake too. Good luck and it will come off.
  13. had hiatal hernia and lapband in one setting. Boy do I hurt. It will get better I am sure.
  14. Some will come along with you and others, for whatever reason won't, but do the surgery for you and then they will see the difference. Best of luck.

    Hungry

Seems like different doctors and different programs. I will be banded on Feb 19 and will use protein shakes from the beginning for 3 weeks of liquids, shakes, broth, decaf tea, crystal lite, etc. Doctor did say there might be some hunger, but if I follow the schedule given to me by dietitian hunger will be minimal. Friend has had by pass by same doctor about a month ago and she has no hunger, but some of the lap banders tell me there is some hunger at first.
  16. Nice to see an another Viet Nam vet on here. I get my band on 19 Feb 13.

    Old Newbie

66 and getting banded on 2 19 13. I think there is a form for us who remember, or would like to remember the 60's. I have been heavy most of my life. Have done very diet known to man or woman kind and finally this is going to be something. In fact today I was doing my hospital pre op check in and the lady who checked me in said she would probably run into at the surgeon's office in about half hour as she had an appointment for a fill. She talked for awhile about her journey and wished me well. Good luck.

    Upset for the first time...

Sure glad I never had a MIL. I would probably lose it if someone said something like that to me. Sounds like some of your MIL's would like to keep you fat just to have it to throw back at their sons for marring a full figure girl. Keep up the good work ladies and don't the MIL's get you down.

Feb 20 is the big day.

Wishing you lots of luck. I'm one day ahead of you. Had my presurgical review with doctors, hospital and and all the staff. I too had bet set to do this 5 years ago and got to about 1 week before surgery and after being told my insurance would cover, I was then told they wold not preapprove, but I could have the surgery and if they decided not to pay after the fact I was stuck with about 13,000 in bills. Hoping this does not happen this time too. Best of luck.

    My band is so verbal!

Now, I will have a new way of getting out of jury duty. My lap band will be too noisy! Get mine on Feb 19 can hardly wait for the conversations to start.

    Endoscopy

After the first one I woke up and asked when we were going to get started. Then had to have second one because I will be having 2 doctors and 2 surgeries. One to repair hiatal hernia and then install the band. When I was told there would be two doctors involved, all I could say was, "Wow, what a paradox!" One of the nurses came at me with something pointy so I did not make any more jokes. Just sleep and you will enjoy.
  22. I don't have to do liquids pre op but have to do a less than 20 carbs per day diet to shrink liver. Feb 19, 2013 for surgery date. Oh, brother no turning back now.

    Grease, Guilt and Failure

Soybean you are so right. The food will always be with us and the use of the band as well as the support groups we chose to use will help us to avoid what is not needed for a healthy life style. Still have not be banded but have appointment Jan 3 with the Thoracic surgeon about the hiatal hernia and hopefully he and the bariatric doctor can coordiante a date. Lee
  24. Looks like I will have two surgeons working on me. The bariatric surgeon goes in and sets up the tools inside of me and then the thoracic surgeon goes inside and fixes the hiatal hernia and then the lap band is installed. Anybody have that done and is the band working. Thoracic surgeon made it sound like sometimes the band does not hold has tightly after the hernia surgery as it would have if the hernia surgery had not been needed. Would love to hear from anyone out there hat has had these two procedures done at the same time.

    Grease, Guilt and Failure

Guilt gets us all on the weight loss journey. I don't care what path you take. I have been in OA for 24 years and I have guilted myself and have heard others guilt themselves into the refrigerator. I used to measure my self worth by the numbers on the scale. What dumb idea! Oops there I go, dumbing myself again. Anyway the numbers on the scale are just a measure of my body weight not my self worth. I don't know exactly what has happened lately, but I accept myself as a good person with some bad eating habits. All the guilt in the world will not taken away those habits. So I accept who I am, let go of the food, when I can, and somehow in the last month have lost about 12 pounds without a preop diet. From what I have read the pre op diet is sort of stressful. So what I am saying Strangedz, not put yourself down! Next time you are tempted count 10. You are a good person not a bad fat girl! It will work for you.
