How does it physically feel ?
LeeB1946 replied to readysetg070113's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are having very normal feelings and thoughts. The only pain I had was the gas in the shoulder and mine was on both right and left with some in the lower neck. This lasted 2 or 3 days. As far as the band itself I had not pain except where the port was installed. I can still feel it pinch a bit if I slouch to the left too far. Sort of reminds me of my 4th grade teacher telling me to sit up straight. Like any surgery there is a time of just being patient and healing and then life goes on. Just remember, chew, chew, chew, sip, sip, sip and walk walk walk when you are up and able. Best of luck. -
So, I'm not the only one wanting to beat up on a commercial actor. I know a few of them and I understand the food we see is not, in many cases, real food. So, I tell myself it is fake and would not taste the same as real. The salad is probably green rubber and she has to stop and spit it out after the shoot.

Who is tired of liquid protein drinks and broth...raise your hand??!!
LeeB1946 replied to erinjkenben's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did not have to do liquid pre op, but had them for 3 weeks post op. All I really wanted was something, anything, I could just stick a fork into. I still use them now and again if I am rushed or traveling and don't want to bother with restaurants, etc. -
Considered a BIG NSV for me!

Roller Coasters are sort of like WLS. Kinda scary at first but worth the ride. -
Does older age matter for lap band surgury?

Got weighed this morning and went clothes shopping in the closet. Tossed out any shirt that was over a size 17 and a few pants that were over 40. Hope to clear the next load in about 30 days.

I found my ribs a few days ago too. When I lie down my rib cage sticks out and I am only half way to goal. Wonder what I will look like at goal?

Actually, the idea gained favor after AIDS became so well known. Seems in the early days of AIDS people were terrified, and to some extent rightfully so, that the Roman and Anglican churches, in some areas of the world, thought this was a great idea. In the State of Washington it almost caused a schism in the Roman church. Western Washington, the more liberal side, wanted nothing to do with "dipping" or intiction(sp) and the Eastern side of the state's diocese wanted only "dipping." Depending upon which side of the state I was on I was dipping or drinking.

Some Catholic churches do not allow dipping (intinction) and I may have misspelled that. I went to a church that did not allow it and visitors were often confused. I doubt the small amount of host or wine will hurt.

What do you weigh yourself in??
LeeB1946 replied to sp70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I could be a real smart ass and say my bathroom. Like most everybody else, in what God gave me. I just wish he had not been so generous in giving me so much. I also make sure the cat does not come in the bathroom when I get weight, I am sure goes out to the neighbors and talks. -
Bowel movements- sorry:(

I know what you are going through. I am 4 months post surgery and it still can be a problem. My nurse said use MOM. I told her my mom died years ago and what could she have done anyway? The nurse nearly fell on the floor laughing. I laughed too when she said "Milk of Magnesia!" Oh, these acronyms! I still have to take a slug now and again to get things happening. Remember, "Poo Poo Occurs!" -
Day 4 - Very bad gas and Nausea
LeeB1946 replied to wadeg7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome to the wonderful world of wls. Had the gas thing in my chest, neck and upper back for about 5 days. The first 3 nights were spent in a chair as I could not lie down. It got better and better. Would not have wanted to have flown after the surgery. You are a better man than I. Flew a few weeks ago and that was 7 weeks after a fill and the band was a bit tight when I got to Tucson for a about a day and a half. Only drank liquids. Good luck and take the pain meds for sure. It does get better. Chew, sip, chew, sip, and walk walk walk. -
Restaurant Advice
LeeB1946 replied to juliecatherine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Was traveling for about 1 and half weeks and ate out almost every day. Had small breakfast and usually took some in to go box. Lunch ate a few ounces and took the rest for snack and dinner. Then went to grocery store for soft cheeses and water for snack foods. One meal could usually last for 2 more after I got back to motel. -
Do you have a nickname for your lap band?
LeeB1946 replied to LadyDiva618's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Audrey. She is named after the character in the musical "Little Shop of Horrors." Audrey had one line, "FEED ME!" and everytime I get a loud gurgle I say it is Audrey saying, "Feed me!" Then after a few ounces of food she said, "thanks that's enough STOP FEEDING ME!" For those of you who may not remember Audrey she was a man eating plant and had to be fed a person a day. OK, so I am a sick puppy! -
I call one of my OA friends and talk about head hunger and I get over it. Well, most of the time.

I have read several topics on here and was wondering if it is OK to give out my e mail address to the writer. I have seen 2 or 3 that I would like to write to privately, for their sake and mine, but not sure if I should or can post my e mail address. Anyone have suggestions.

I went in for a band fill about 6 weeks ago and told my PA that I was going to fly from Seattle to Tucson in 2 weeks. He refused to give me a fill because the band would get tight during the flight. He was right. I did tighten up a bit on the trip down so I only did liquids the first 1 and half days there and then slowly went to solids, but no problem coming back. Heard of a lady who flew from Sea to chico and was so tight she did not even take water for 2 or 3 days. My doctor said no flying until 2 weeks after fill, but the PA would not fill even though it would have been 2 weeks and 1 day. Glad I did not have the fill and lost weight on vacation too. Had to buy smaller sized pants to come one in and that never happened on a vacation before.

Did anyone use the same Dr. as Governor Christie. I read some bad things in the news about him and pending law suites. Wish the best for the Gov even though we would differ politically I know this fat issue knows no bounds.

Mark: don't give up on yourself. You have just started. I wonder what it would have been like 45 years ago when I was 21 if this had been available. It won't be easy, but with help from some professional in the mental health field who understands eating disorders you will pull through. I can tell from your story that you would probably, probably, I say, be a good candidate for Overeaters Anonymous. It is a 12 step program based on AA for those of us who use food in the why the Alcoholic uses alcohol. You might try a few of those meetings and I bet you will find some support to get you through this initial stage. When it comes to certain foods I loved, I say, I can't have them "one day at a time." Maybe I can have them in moderation at some time in the future but for today I need something healthier. I would definitely stay from cooking videos and cooking shows for a time. Out of sight out of mind. You will make this by letting the band work for you and you work for the band.

Help guys -- Band or Sleeve? I'm scheduled for band Feb.1
LeeB1946 replied to outlaw's topic in The Guys’ Room
Your dr should be able to show you all of them and give pro and con. I have lap band, like it. Friend had BP one month earlier from same surgeon and she loves it. Another person I know has a sleeve. We all like what we have and compare and contrast every time we get together. -
overeaters Anonymous might you deal with food addiction. Has helped me a lot.

Food withdrawal symptoms
LeeB1946 replied to Golfbooboo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know I used to eat myself to sleep so even before surgery I had sleep problems when I would cut my food intake down. Have the issue to this date, but seems to be getting a little better. Used a CPAP for awhile, but had to give that back to company because insurance would not pay for it because I could not use it for the right number of hours per night. It was like trying to sleep with a snake attached to my face.
