i am so sorry to hear this. i just had a revision and i can't imagine what it would be like to have to live with a slipped band. can you appeal the insurance now that you've gained the weight? before my revision i was living on soups and ice cream too. i totally get it. luckily, i only had about 6 weeks of living that way. you really need to push for the surgery. there must be a way to make them see that it IS necessary for your health and well-being! that said, i am impressed at how you are taking the bull by the horns instead of letting it kick you in the rear. i am rooting for you and i'm here if you need support. f

December 2012 --- Band Buddies Unite!
Feb replied to LadyLeigh2012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
so...i got schooled today. i went for my post-op appt - i had a revision on 12/19 which is basically an brand new banding. i put myself on mushies a few days ago, thinking that my esophagus was already used to the band because i had one before. boy was i wrong... apparently, the revision requires dissection and then stitching so i may even be more inflamed than most. oopsie! luckily, no harm was done and i am officially clear for mushies. i was also instructed to up my liquid intake (way up) and i wasn't getting nearly enough protein either, which is directly related to hunger (who knew!). so i went straight to the store, got more protein shakes, metamucil for fiber and 2 nice drinking thermoses to help me get that water in. i really want to do this right this time, and although i do know a little bit about how to do this, i clearly still have A LOT to learn! f -

Since this is my second time around, I know a few things. Tastes will definitely change- a weird side effect of the band. Today I tried some lox (smoked salmon) which I usually love, and basically had to force myself to swallow it. So salty!! And tonight I had some peanut butter for protein and didn't enjoy it the way I used to. I don't know why our tastes change, but they do... -

Today I was starving too. Post op day 4. I actually had some cottage cheese and later, peanut butter to take the edge off. Seemed to go down easily... -

maybe it's because your swelling has gone down! That's a good sign. -

As far as telling people...my immediate family knows, because I need them for support. Everyone else I'm telling I had a hernia repaired, which is technically true and accounts for the belly tenderness. -

Here's a funny scenario. I'm married mom of 2 and I went to the supermarket with my dad today (late 60's with back probs). He insisted on driving me and helped with the lifting. Anyway,by the time we headed to checkout, I realized we were being lapped by 70 and 80 year olds! Poor us....but so funny -
It is definitely harder when you have to feed your kids. The smells, alone, remind you of what you can't have. But, I keep reminding myself that this was my choice and if I REALLY want a chicken nugget (lol) I can purée one next week!

I got antibiotics and a spirometer. Each surgeon is different. So strange. -

My story is a little different. I was originally banded in Aug 2010 but my band slipped I just had revision surgery on 12/19/12 and its like starting all over again. I may know a bit more because I was already banded, but I am back on liquids and protein shakes and I'm starting from scratch. Lets do this together! Faith -

Tomorrow is the Day!!!
Feb replied to LadyLeigh2012's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hooray! I am actually having a revision tomorrow 12/19 but I'm treating it like a new start. So, happy band- day to us! -
Hi everyone! I'm fairly new to the site so ill give you a bit of background. I was banded in Aug 2010 and have lost around 50 pounds since then. Over the last year, my weight has remained constant, despite a series of fills, unfills, etc. Last summer, the dr checked for a slip but the films looked ok. Just bad reflux. Now, after an UGI showing a slip and a repeat UGI yesterday, the slip is confirmed and did not resolve on its own. I am tentatively scheduled for revision surgery next week and, as the title suggests, I'm freaking out about it. I work full time, have 2 young kids and the holidays are just around the corner. My husband is only somewhat helpful Can anyone offer words of wisdom or advice of any kind? Thanks in advance... F

Revision next week- freaking out!
Feb replied to Feb's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Thanks Sandy! I'm lucky to have decent insurance, so I likely won't have to pay anything out of pocket. I'll let you know if is see any billing info though. I just realized that since the dr is only revising the band itself, the port should be left alone, which hopefully means less healing time for me. Or is it just wishful thinking...? -
Revision next week- freaking out!
Feb replied to Feb's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Thanks, ladies. I have been totally unfilled for the last 3 weeks, starving and gaining. It's been pretty bad. At least there's a pretty solid chance that I'll start losing again! Hopefully the recovery won't be too horrible- I'd like to actually enjoy Xmas with the fam. -
Hey guys. I'm in Bergen county. Was banded 2 years ago and I'm about to have revision surgery. Good times. Faith

How bad was the recovery from the revision? I'm having one next week. Faith

Hey Tabby. I did a search for "revision" and your post came up. I've been banded 2 years and I'm scheduled for a revision next Wed. Was it as bad as the 1st surgery? I'm freaking out a little... Thanks! Faith
