My story--banded for 9.5 years.
Lori123 replied to MeganA's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
There are many many positive posts in here so do your homework, get educated- check out lapband.com but most of all take your questions to your surgeon. When I saw my surgeon for the first time I took a list of 21 questions to him! He took the time to answer every one of them. It all boils down to this---life with the band will be YOUR unique experience and what YOU make of it. I wish you well and let us know how your doing! -

I think it took me six months to get to the green zone. :^/

It took me several fills to hit the green zone. It depends on how soon your hungry between meals and what your eating. It is a s-l-o-w tweaking of the band ( since we have the same surgeon I know this) and that's the best way. Remember my first piece of advice I gave you? Be patient....it may take several months to get you there. It did me. You will be able to go longer between meals. I continued to get fills and then went one month without one (had a small setback and got a fill and couldn't eat anything...felt like I was choking! Went and quickly got an unfill). I let it rest for a month. Then I felt like I could eat more than I should to be satisfied so July I got a smidgeon fill... .25 ml and I'm doing fine with it now. It is a process knowing your body and listening to the signals from your band and your body. I read alot on here and that helps me too! Your doing great, keep it up!

I started out at 258 pounds. I'm 5'5". I had set a goal first and foremost to get my cholesterol , blood pressure and blood sugar to normal levels and I have met that goal! I was banded Nov 7th. My weight goal 135 I pulled out of a hat-I actually have no idea what that will look like on me. I am currently a size 14 at 182 pounds...47 more to go!

You go girl!!!! That's fabulous! Isn't it funny the things we get excited about? I can cross my legs!
-
FINALLY started losing again...whew! Was becoming a little discouraged. Then this weekend I slipped in to size 12 capris and was ecstatic ! What an amazing feeling! My goal size is 7/8.....banded 8 months and down 75 pounds. My only regret: THAT I DIDN'T DO IT SOONER!!

Don't let ANYONE sabotage you! You can choose who you share your life with and those people clearly are not supporting you. Yes you will feel all kind of emotions but don't feel defeat! There will be plateau's along the way but more happy moments when that scale starts going down, and it will! We are all here for you. Believe me I' e been in the black hole of depression but no more. You just keep plugging along and be patient. You will be so happy with the new you !

How you doing Erica?

Also seeing my lab results, normal blood pressure and normal blood sugar!
-
Crossing my legs Sliding in the next size down of clothing Bein ok with trying on clothes in a dressing room and actually being ok looking in the mirror
-
I'm still learning and realizing all the food issues I had and still have that I'm working through , but as the scale goes down my self esteem and mood goes up!!

Even the anesthesia has can affect your emotions....just think about all the drugs that were pumped in to you! Also your body is changing metabolically, depending on the preop diet you did. I did three protein shakes a day with drastic carb drop and only 300calories a day! I felt like crap but by the end of the first week I could feel the changes-fluid began disappearing. Remember one thing-food WASN'T your friend. I did the same thing- ate because I was depressed- made me feel better for a short time, then depressed about my weight so I aye to feel better. It's a difficult cycle to break. Many changes are taking place in your body. Just take one day at a time and let's tell ya...when that scale starts dropping, it is a high that no drug and no food can duplicate! Nothing tastes as good as skinny is going to feel!! Remember we are all here for you as well!

Why does it hurt to eat in the mornings?
Lori123 replied to goal_will_be_met's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am also tighter in the morning. I asked my bariatric nurse about it and she said sometimes there is a buildup of mucous which makes you feel a little tighter. She suggested a hot drink to start the day. I have coffee then a protein drink for breakfast. I can't even eat yogurt for breakfast, too tight. But then around lunchtime I'm fine. I don't want to skip breakfast because we need protein so the drink works for me! -
First of all, don't second guess your decision to get a healthier you. It isn't the easy way out by no means. The band is simply a tool, you do the work. The fact that you recognized within yourself you couldn't do it on diet and exercise alone (me too) is the key to your decision. I would surround yourself with people that are supportive and have no room in your life for non supporters. There will be people that try to sabotage you along the way. I don't know if that's ignorance or jealousy! Your doing it for all the right reasons -to get healthier.

Mexico Lap Banders / 4cc lap banders????
Lori123 replied to xxjosettexx's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My ex sister in law got a lapband in Mexico a few years back and ended up in iCU for a month here in the states then had a hard time finding a surgeon to remove it. Don't get "old" anything...stick with current modern medicine. Why Mexico anyway? -
Survey: How many cc's did you get in your first fill?
