Why does the gallbladder give us problems after weight loss? Does the liver begin to dump stuff?

If you chose NOT to tell about your LB, share your story please

I told everyone. I work in the surgery dept where my Dr does weight loss surgery. Helps keep me on my toes ! Accountability! My family was very supportive. I'm hoping I can inspire just one person that feels its hopeless to lose weight and get their health back and then turns to the band for help and gives it their all...many people on here have inspired me. :0) -
Have you tried sit ups on an exercise ball? They are easy to do with no stress on your back. Also exercise bands which provide resistance training, dumbells for triceps and biceps

Such a great post! I can DEFINATELY relate. I too felt like I lived in a deep dark cave with no way out---depressed about the way I looked so I would eat, I would feel a little better, then look in the mirror and see a fat ugly person and get depressed, so I would eat to feel better. Finally the eating part DIdnt make me feel better anymore but worse! So all that was left was deep darkness. It was a vicious cycle with no one to blame but myself. I'm never going back to that cave! Thank you for your post and congratulations! Your an inspiration! Banded nov 7th 2012. Loss -79 pounds. Finally a size 12!

how long did you wait for real food?
Lori123 replied to renewed_mind's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Please stop the foul language...you might want to look at the root of your anger. Also if your doctor is telling you that you don't have a pouch until you get a fill then your not understanding the surgery you had. There are pictures all over the Internet and lapband.com to see this. NO lapnband doc would say its no big deal (and certainly wouldn't use vulgar language and say "no f/:"&$ing deal) that you ate right away. He/she should have also told you this first phase is about HEALING and not losing. No one on here wants you to fail but if you keep getting this erroneous info from your doc I'm beginning to wonder about them. May I ask where you had your surgery? -

how long did you wait for real food?

There are so many posts to this thread I may have missed it, but does your doctor know you are eating this soon? I think I speak for alot of people on here when I say none of us probably chewed really well right off the bat...it's something you have to learn and it can take time. Some of us had to learn the hard way when we didn't quite chew well enough. I'm getting that your doctor did NOT prepare/ educate you on the lapband. Many basics you should already know, beginning with you DO have a pouch. Your doctor should have shown you a model or picture of where the band sits. You are not stupid, don't think that. It IS a very serious thing that your not following the instructions regarding the diet . Go to lapband.com. Lots if great info there. -

Then channel your anger into a commitment towards your band and your journey! If you are used to hearing this then dial back the attitude, sit back in a cozy chair and start reading on here because you will find alot of helpful information on here. People will be honest with you, but if you take a defensive stand and use vulgarity, you will only feel more down than you already are. Talk to your doctor; there should be a dietician on staff that could sit down with you and show you food combinations that will help your hunger. Also, think about counseling to help you. Don't think everyone on here is perfect and has complete success with their band. We've all had ups and downs and still struggle with food issues. I for one look to this site for help and support and yes I will be honest when I've done something I shouldn't and will look for support on here and am also prepared for the answers I get. That honest feedback will help keep me on track. Don't give up on this site yet- it could be very helpful to you and you might just make a friend! Best wishes. :0) -
how long did you wait for real food?
Lori123 replied to renewed_mind's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Your asking how long people waited before we ate real food and did we have any complications......all surgeons are different and give very specific instructions on the post op diet. I will answer your question-I was told clear liquids the day of surgery then mushies until my first post op visit which was a month from my surgery day. I did wait that long before trying anything solid and did not have any complications. When you come on this forum you should be prepared for all kind of responses. You were very honest and you received honest answers. No one wants to shoot you down here; it is just hard to here how someone totally went against post op instructions and does not see the importance of following instructions. I don't know what type of instructions you received and maybe your doctor DIdnt fully explain things to you. Are you committed to the band and your journey? If so, you will find great advice, inspiring stories, pictures and encouragement on here that has really helped me. If your not then maybe this site isn't for you. I don't judge you, nor condem you for your admission here so please don't condem folks on here and use prolific language because you don't like the responses your getting. Some may be a little harsh but it's only because they put intense commitment to their band and personal journey. And they will be the first ones to give you encouragent and "that's great" comments when you post how your doing with your band. I do wish you well...... -
Starting over after almost dying twice and gaining back 150 pounds
Lori123 replied to divaofsongs's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thank you for having the courage to share your journey with us. You also did it in a way where you admitted all the wrong things you did along the way, and DIdnt blame it on the band, which is a tool. I suspect none of us on here have any right to condem you because most of us have gotten off track in different degrees at one time or another and your story helped me, for one, snap to attention and get back on track. Your braver than alot of people I know. I wish you all the best . One suggestion as I was an emotional eater as well- have you thought about adding some counseling or a support group this time around? That might be helpful for you...by sharing your story you have helped some of us on here. :0) -
any regrets? is it harder or easier then you thought?
Lori123 replied to WheelCrazy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No regrets...not one. When I made the decision yo get the band I realized nothing else was going to work for me. I knew I would have to make lifestyle changes but needed something to help me--a tool. And the band has done just that. I am lucky to have a great surgeon who has a great bariatric program with support. I am surprised that I have lost 76 pounds, as I was never able to lose more then 20 by myself. It has given me back my life by correcting prediabetes, lowering my blood pressure and my depression has disappeared! I am extremely happy with the appetite control the band provides. My band and I have a good relationship right now. I learn new things about it everyday! Actually yes, one regret----WISH I WOULD HAVE DONE IT SOONER!! -
Self Doubt: I need a pep talk!
Lori123 replied to TheCurvyMermaid's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Don't think about where your going, think about where you have been! Even if you have lost weight several times, maybe it wasn't the right way or a method to keep it off. With the band you have to make certain dietary changes. I don't think of it as a diet; I had to make lifestyle changes forever. Sit down and look at what your eating and usually you can find what is stalling your weight loss. Attend a support group , talk to your surgeon or bariatric nurse . I did have thoughts along the way doubting myself, but I did alot of research beforehand and knew this would work. I started at 258 and have not been under 200pounds for YEARS. I am currently 182 and as long as I think about how far I e come I can stay focused. Stay connected on here..it's a great motivator! You can do it. :0) -
Wow I know a Mandy from Australia!
