November bandsters Unite
Successful4me replied to lovely29's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A Plication is just sewing/stitching. The Doctor stitches the upper part of the stomach (folds it over) the Band & sutures 12-13 stitches. This is similar to the sleeve as well If a person's band slips with this Plication then surgery is required to fix the band. Without the Plication & surgery is not usually required with a slipped band, they just take the Fluid out & in most cases the band goes back into place & no surgery is required. I work for Bariatric Surgeons who did the Plication w/ Banding for many yrs but stopped, because when patients slipped their band, off to to operating room. I was banded 12/22/10 & had the option of Plication but decided not to. I slipped a yr later & was happy the band went back into place (which is common) on its own. Thus far I've been good & have lost 100lbs. My goal is 150 & I'm at 163lbs at present. Good luck, much success, & congrats to you on ur weight lost -
Pressured To Get Gastric Bypass Instead Of Lapband (Dr. Monash)
Successful4me replied to Autumn2013's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
You have done the right thing! There is no "Right or Wrong" WLS it's the Patient's decision (unless there is some life or death) situation then the healthcare professionals have to decide. I understand totally where you are coming from with the privacy thing. I'm 2yrs out & only a couple of people know. My coworker's don't know because I keep work & my private life separate & I work in a Doctors' office. Congrats with your new journey. #Banded12/22/10 lost 100lbs -

Fills Post-Green Zone and Encouragement
Successful4me replied to losangelesislovely's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This was the OLD way, & things do change in the medical field. This was the rule with my Bariatric Surgeons as well, but studies have shown differently. I work in the office & worked for the best top notch surgeons out of NY City for over 12yrs. We go to seminars State to State to meet with different Doctors & reps from "the makers" of the Band & you'd be surprised on some of the new updated topics. When I looked at the old post-op pamphlets compared to the updated ones, yes I do see where it did (in the past) say no water 30mins prior. But with people getting stuck its said to sip on water right up to you take your first small bite of food. It does not say gulp or guzzle it down. It says small sips right up to you take your 1st bite. Then don't drink for at least 30mins after eating. U are doing the right thing by listening to your Doctor, but just pointing out that things change in the medical field. Much success with your journey. #banded12/22/10. 100lbs gone. -

I've been banded 2yrs ago today & I still have kept mine private. Less than 7people know & that's of course a very personal private choice. I understand where you are coming from. #banded12/22/10 -
