Be Honest- Is Banded Life Hard?

My mom asked me if I am going to stick to this. I said absolutely. I'm not going to put myself thru surgery when I am the worlds worst patient and the most paranoid person I know and have it NOT work. I see it as a tool to help me eat the way I am supposed to, and if I don't follow the rules I will get sick, etc.

    Thank you so much!

    Pittsburgh?

I definitely will! My doctor is out of WPAHS so it was just easiest to go there so they'd already have my medical records, etc. Only my GYN is at Magee.
  4. So, as I said before I have my consultation with the surgeon on Dec 18 and hope to have the surgery in the spring. I was wondering....how long are most people off of work? I don't want to have to use FMLA because I have to use all my vacation and sick time first, and have a week scheduled off to get married next fall (so if I couldn't get that week off I'd have some huge problems!) If I have to take some sort of leave of absence, I do have short term disablity thru AFLAC. I have the medical benefit as well so I don't know if they would pay me for the hospital stay or anything like that. Anyone deal with this with AFLAC before? I know I should probably wait and ask my doctor but I am an overthinker and I am slightly impatient!

Things I Didn't Even Think Of...

I'm hoping I can have surgery on Tuesday, take 5 work days off....and I would not have to return to work until the following Thursday...of course, I don't even see the surgeon until Dec 18 so I'm what looking at June anyway? I may be worrying a bit too early!

Things I Didn't Even Think Of...

As for scheduled in advance time off, at my job we can only have two people off per shift per day....so it can be incredibly difficult to request time off in advance. We do get 10 sick days per year, but I do not want to use them all in the event I get sick....I would be written up and face disciplinary action for calling off once I was out of time. If I apply for medical leave, they take all of our vacation and sick days first and it is unpaid....but my short term disablity would kick in.

Things I Didn't Even Think Of...

I do have a desk job, so I'm hoping I can just do a few shift switches and schedule a few personal days and have the time off I need --- and with pay.

Be Honest- Is Banded Life Hard?

Loved reading this thread. Can't wait to meet my surgeon next month and be on this journey too. You're all such an inspiration. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S3 using LapBandTalk
  11. Hi everyone! So glad I found this forum, has really helped with my research so I felt it was time to join. I've been considering this surgery for the better part of two years now. I've struggled with my weight since puberty, and I've lost and gained back the weight (and thensome) more times than I can count. Currently I have a BMI around 43, borderline hypertension, asthma, probably sleep apnea, and found out I have a genetic blood clotting disorder (which naturally can be exacerbated by my weight). I want to be around for a long time for my family, fiance and friends. I feel like now is the time to really pursue this before it's too late. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S3 using LapBandTalk

    New Here And Considering Surgery

Well, saw my pcp today and he gave me the okay to call the surgeon! Also set me up to get a sleep study. I'm absolutely sure I have sleep apnea but I need a positive test if I want to end up banded. This surgeon says you have to have 1 of 4 comorbidities and I don't have the other 3. Never thought I'd be hoping to find something wrong with me before. Anyway, my pcp told me to come back in 4 weeks because he'll have to fax a monthly form to the surgeon for 6 months. Also scheduled an appointment to meet the surgeon in Dec 18th. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S3 using LapBandTalk

    New Here And Considering Surgery

FLORIDAYS, several of my friends and coworkers and even my future mother in law have had either the band or RNY surgery done by the same pair of doctors. They all have rave reviews, and this group is out of the same hospital group as my primary care doctor whom I actually see tomorrow. I'm hoping my pcp will finally give me the okay. He's been concerned about my weight for years, especially the last 3 or so because I've been at my heaviest. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S3 using LapBandTalk
