My name is Annette. I have been overweight most of my life. In 1996 I married my soulmate. In 1997 I found out that I have Diabetes, P.C.O.S., HTN, Hypothyroidism and Gout. While most newly weds are planning for their future I had to do damage control. I have been researching weight loss surgery since 2002.
I have yet to find a job that will allow the insurance to help me with the cost. I thought this, 2013, was going to be the year that it got done however there are so many restrictions on the rider for our insurance it is almost impossible to be approved. When the hospital that I was going to for the surgery called the insurance they said yes it was a covered benefit. It wasn't until I blew about 400.00 in MD visits and testing (that they covered only a small portion of) that I found out this was not going to be covered due to a bunch of restrictions that I could not meet if I tried.
So again I am waiting for a lottery windfall or a miracle. I am in the process of writing to our HR dept and the outside company that purchases our insurance to try and make a case for people to get coverage for this surgery. I am backing it up with medical journal articles about why this should be an allowed surgery under our plan. I don't know if it will help but I know I will be heard.
