Peaceful1 replied to WheelCrazy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just got a fill yesterday and I've been having that issue as well. but my PA told me that when you lose abdominal fat your port moves and it moves throughout the day regardless, it could be moving and hitting nerves or something but ask your doctor just to be sure but yes I have felt them to you are not alone.. :-) -

Hi!! :-) I lost 20 lbs during the pre op diet, which in my case was 2 weeks, so basically 100 lbs since December 1st ish of last year. To be honest with you, I really don't know how it happened so fast...I exercised but nothing too crazy..I followed my instructions to the letter..and my clinic is very restrictive food wise, because basically no carbs are allowed except for steel cut oats and bran here and there....when I see the numbers though, I still don't believe it....my mind and my body are still very detached sometimes...I had dreamed for about a decade to lose 100 lbs, but I had no idea it would or could happen in less than a year...I know everybodys body is different..please don't be discouraged...I thought long and hard about whether to post this or not....and the only reason I did was to try to give people hope....because we are fighting the same battle, and I got alot of support from this forum, and wanted to pay it forward..don't give up...everything you dream is possible...you will reach your goal I promise!! :-)

No worries. I was banded 7 months ago. I know every surgeon is different in terms of eating guidelines. My surgeon had me on a liquid diet 2 full weeks after surgery. I was so afraid of something going wrong I followed everything to the letter...but I don't recommend worrying like I did. Just listen to your body, it will tell you in one form or another what it can and cannot tolerate. You are still in the healing phase, it can be frustrating but it's super important to go easy on the tummy. Protein shakes were a life saver for me. I know the feeling of struggling to take small bites and chew...I think every banded person understands this. Everyone uses different techniques. For me, I happened to have a set of super tiny forks I got in Korea. I refused to use childrens utensils, I'm a grown woman, but it works for some people. I promise if you use a small fork, it will help you take smaller bites. I always put my fork down between bites, and aim to chew 30 times before swallowing. Not trying to overwhelm you....but looking back I realize the importance of breaking these habits from the get go, it makes the rest of the journey much easier...like I said, I'm no Dr, just telling you what worked for me...but it takes time, be patient, it will all come together!! :-)

So, super long story short...I had arthroscopic knee surgery 2 weeks ago for a torn meniscus that I've had for years, and finally fixed because I couldn't handle having my knee lock up on me all the time. Surgery and recovery went remarkably well, then suddenly I noticed a large lump in my calf. I showed it to my dr during physical therapy, and she told me to go to the ER right away. I got an ultrasound which showed I had deep vein thrombosis reaching all the way to my hip! They admitted me to the hospital, I had to stay there for 4 days until my blood was thin enough for me to be safe enough to go home. Now I have to take cumadin for the next 3 months! This drug is very complicated, and I've never taken it before, but basically I can no longer eat most green veggies, which is a majority of my diet, and everyone is telling me I need to take a break from losing weight, and focus on managing the cumadin. Of course I intend to do so, but I'm so overwhelmed because my weight loss has been so successful, I've lost 90 pounds in 6 months, but I still have a long way to go, and apparently I gained 3 pounds in the hospital, which blows my mind!? I cannot mentally handle gaining weight, but this cumadin is so damn sensitive, that it says any changes in weight could throw the drug off and put me in the danger zone again. I just can't handle this, I absolutely can't smoke or drink alcohol anymore now, and I find my thoughts, and actions drifting towards unhealthy food choices...this is a mess.....is anyone else on cumadin? I'm so sad and just had to vent. Thanks

Thank you so much for your kind words, you are absolutely right about balance. I appreciate your concern, that means the world to me.

Don't be depressed!! In all honesty, and my doctor told me the same thing, my loss is not typical. All I can say is I've followed my instructions, and never let anything compromise my goals. You'll get there! :-)

No, it's not what you think! I'm 5 months post-op. I've lost 94 pounds...about 2 weeks ago, I started becoming INSANELY hungry all the time...right around this time I also started losing mass amounts of hair, don't know if these 2 are related? I have a nutritionist appointment tomorrow. Has anyone else experienced this?

Have u tried kale chips? Healthy and nutritional!

I'm so glad someone brought this up. I have an anxiety disorder, and after being banded, my anxiety has certainly increased. The racing heartbeat I don't experience too often, but often right before I go to sleep, I'll have anxiety about the band...ugh. hope u feel better.
