  1. Hey guys, I am just starting this journey of getting approved for WLS, but I have been reading that a lot of people advise to get lots of samples of protien shakes before hand to see what you like. Can anyone tell me what is a good way to go about getting samples? Can you just buy individual pakets of protien powder, or one single shake? Can any one recommend a good tasting shake? Any additional info would be great as well Thanks!

    5 Confessions (Join In)

I can totally relate!! I am also pre-op...I confess as well that I have not been following my nutritional plan as well as I could have...the first week was great but I haven't been planning my meals as well so I slip up... I also confess that I think about this surgery every single day, and browse this forum all the time... I am scared of excess skin, my boobs shrinking to nothing and being "skinny" ....I NEVER HAVE BEEN! Im scared that this surgery wont work for me but I am going through with it anyways as long as insurance approves...if insurance does not approve I will be heart broken and wont know what to do with myself. I am afraid of what people will think of me if they know I have had weight loss surgery. Thanks for this thread....its comforting knowing I am not alone in my fears!
  3. Hey Ladies, I am pre op at this time, but I was wondering about weight loss and "down there." I know this might be a weird topic, but I dont know who else to talk to!! I am assuming that I will be losing weight in all places, but I want to eventually feel comfortable about being in a bathing suit (without a skirt) or tight pants....Have you guys experienced a decrease in that area? I really dont want to have cosmetic surgery down there.... Sorry about the weirdness!
  4. I think I'm more excited/anticipated for that to shrink more so than my arms or legs LOL!
  5. Found that thread...had quite a few laughs!!! Glad I'm not the only one worried about the area!
  6. Thanks for sharing!! I to was very scared when I read the "complications" tread...almost changed my mind....but I'd rather risk the <1% chance of complications than the very great chance that I will end up with diabetes and/or heart disease as I am currently pre diabetic and have high blood pressure. I cant wait for the day that I can share my success story with everyone!
  7. Tacos aside, I have lost a few lbs since starting!
  8. Nope, my surgeon doesnt do the liquid diet before surgery. I had to go to a nutritional seminar where everyone pretty much got the same meal plan. I have to stick with this for a month before I have my 1:1 nutritional appointment where they might make additional adjustments. They said during the seminar that this is how I will have to eat after the surgery, and that they encourage weight loss before the surgery as well. I am eating 3 meals a day plus 2-3 snacks, but I still feel hungry shortly after the meal. I also have to practice eating slower and taking smaller bites...and not drinking while eating, which I feel helps fill me up when I do...I hardly ever feel full, unless I have a big or rich meal.
  9. yeah, if they tell me that then I am going somewhere else....I am at 38BMI right now so I cant lose too much weight. Cant get below 210. I want this surgery really bad, and Ive been able to get some weight off before, but it never says off. I need this surgery because I know that eventually I will start to not be able to control my hunger pangs or cravings w/o the surgery. I am hungry all the time...with my new nut. plan its been a little better, but today is day 4 and I AM SO HUNGRY right now!!! I am just trying to drink a lot to get past this.
  10. I ended up caving in last night and I got 2 chicken fresca soft tacos....the calories shouldn't be too bad as they use low fat cheese, white meat chicken and fresh lettuce and salsa. I didn't get any extras...It was very satisfying, but I did feel defeated. I think next time I will just make it at home. Right now I work 4pm-12am 3 days a week and I get really hungry around 11pm. I cant just go home and go to bed, so I end up staying up late, which is when I am usually really hungry. I think this weekend I will go and pick up some Jenny O taco seasoned turkey breast so I can make tacos at home... Ive also come to the conclusion that this month I think what will work for me best is to focus on one goal a week. This week Ive been trying to stick very closely to the meal plan. The only thing extra I had were the tortillas that the tacos were made with, and Ive been trying my best to keep up with the food journal. Next week I am going to concentrate on eating slower. I have slowed down from previously, but still not enough as I should. I am going to go out and by child size utensils this weekend. I have been trying to not drink while eating, and I wont get a beverage unless I really need to...like if something is dry or I get the hiccups.
  11. I feel your frustration!! I went to my the initial seminar the last week of December, and even though its only been a month, this process seems like its going to take FOREVER!! I am getting really impatient because I have to wait a month between the nutritional seminar and my first 1:1 appointment with the nutritionist. I also have to wait to get my psy eval as the psychiatrist wants to do the eval after Ive been on my nutritional plan for 1 month. After those two appointments I can then schedule an appointment with the surgeon. I think it wouldnt be so hard to wait if you could submit to insurance first...that way I know I'm not going through all of this stuff for nothing! Its also hard because I am a naturally impatient person, and now I am being forced to wait for one of the most important decisions of my life. Time usually doesnt go by so slow for me, but this next month I fear will just crawl by...
  12. 5 lbs down today, I am actually not as hungry as I usually am, I think because I have been forcing myself to eat the 3 small meals a day and 2-3 snacks...I made up a menu for the week that is on my fridge, which has also helped. The only thing I am really battling at the moment are the cravings. I STILL want Taco Bell sooo bad! Today I sorta didn't eat a lot so I might go later tonight and get one of their lower cal tacos...the fresca ones...its so hard to resist though. Should I give in and get just one, or just try to ride the craving out?!

  19. Hey guys, I am posting again since no one is really answering in a different category.... 22. I have hypothyroidism as well, and I take my levothyroxine (synthroid) in the morning. I was told to not take any calcium suppliment within 2 hours of taking my thyroid med. I was even told that things like milk and vitamin fortified oj...yogurt things high in calcuim can make the levothyroxine less effective. I would just take one in the am and one in the pm...thats what I do!
