    First Fill Question

I had my first fill yesterday. My doctor's office just said a 2 hour fast prior to the fill. A really neat post I read said also to make sure you stay WELL hydrated prior (this really helped me) and not to have TOO big a dinner the night before. Good luck! E
  3. I stuck to the preop diet for 2 weeks...very tough but I just kept imagining getting all the way down there and the doctor saying "we'll have to reschedule"...anticipating the disappointment hurt worse than missing the food. I lost 12 pounds in 2 weeks. 2 Ensure + 1 Lean Cuisine per day. Good luck and hang in there...if you stick to it now, it'll be easier to stick with the post-op diet, I promise. And post-op is when it REALLY counts because you won't want to cause your band to slip. E

Have a surgery date! Pre-op diet needed! :(

Dr. Miranda also allows you to do the Atkins diet if you are 3 weeks away from surgery date. You have to do the induction phase the whole time, but that may work better with what you already have in your cabinets/refrigerator. My mom is going to be banded by Dr. Ortiz on 05/11 and scheduled her surgery date late March...she opted to go with the South Beach diet which Dr. Miranda has said is just fine. She's lost 22.8 pounds in 3 weeks and has to lose 40 total. Maybe that one will even work for you, but you have to do just the first phase of that one as well. I had my band placed on March 16th and did the 2 shakes (Ensure or Slimfast) + 1 lean cuisine for 2 weeks. That cost me about $6-9 per six pack and $2 per lean cuisine...so all in all it was MUCH cheaper than what I had been spending eating out prior to surgery. Hope this helps! E

    Marchies In April

Hello all...my first post to this website.:clap2: I was banded on March 16th and my first fill is scheduled for May 11th. E
  6. Hi, mic...I'm 'E'... I was banded on March 16th as well. My nutritionist's instructions said "you will not be physically hungry the first week or so, beware of mental hunger." By following the post-op diet to a "T", I was able to realize that mental hunger can be a b...and now, on day 10 post-op I am barely feeling slight physical hunger. I think it is important for YOU to stay in control...if you allow yourself to feel as if you're "starving" then you are. If you say "I can do this...how do I need to manage this feeling of hunger right now?" then you can control how you respond to it much better. When I "thought" I was hungry the first week, I just grabbed something that was on my post-op diet list...usually Soup first, I'd finish that, grab a popsicle, finish that, drink some flavored water, finish that make a cup of coffee...but all with a very deliberate pace. I know that this is a lifelong journey from here out, so it is about retraining my body and my mind to work together. food will no longer control me the way it used to. And now, day 10, I have been to PF Chang's, Wing Stop, Red Robin, El Pollo Loco, etc. and have not had anything that wasn't on my post-op diet list (which was only clear liquids). :clap2: Dig deep...I'm sure you can find strength...for me, solids don't come till the day before Easter...and I just barely will begin creamy Soups later today.
