To The Younger Lapbanders-Under 30
vanessa1215 replied to Wgbem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 30 and was just banded mid November. I have 5 kids and need to be healthy for not only myself but for them as well! Me and my doctor's next goal is for me to kick the cigarettes. I was surprised he allowed me the surgery since I smoke, however his reasoning was good... When we try to change to much at once, we give up on it all and don't succeed at anything! he said weight first, then my half a pack habit gets kicked in 2013!!! Love my doc! -
The gas pains are baaaad! I was banded last Tuesday so I am about right where you are... My doc also told me in addition to the gas pain, some shoulder pain could be from my hernia repair as it radiates up to the shoulder as well All of the suggestions from others are great and it will get better!

How Many Incisions Do You Have?
vanessa1215 replied to thinkt2013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
4 total... 3 are very small and the 4th is a little longer as its my port location -
Wow! That is real dedication I am doing well! One week post op today! I am feeling hungry but doing my best to ride out until my follow up and mushies!! Lol

Keep the faith! Have your doctors office call and get you an appointment, they can get you in. Even though I don't have any medical advice, I can offer encouragement! Many people have to jump through hoops to get to operation day. It's another hurdle, so jump it! Maybe someone here has experienced this issue, if so, I hope they chime in with their experience

Just checking on the most popular port location... I know all docs are different just wanted to see other people experiences with where their port is and if they were given a choice of location.

Weight Loss On Pre-Op Diet
vanessa1215 replied to BandedBettyBoop's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I learned something new today Wasn't aware it was that common. My mom works in an OR as well and thought it was odd. Thanks for the info Cheryl! -
What is the difference? I have an actual Lap Band but see some have Realize bands.... Is there a reason why?

Mine is located just below my left rib cage, I wasn't given an option either... Seems to be ok so far. Only time will tell how it works out

Weight Loss On Pre-Op Diet
vanessa1215 replied to BandedBettyBoop's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, this must really be the forum for attitudes. I was shocked, but like I said, it must vary from hospital to hospital and doc to doc... Seems like almost everything with the lap band experience differs in some way or another. That wasn't an attack on anyone, just stating the reasons they don't normally allow that so the other person could be informed that it's not typical. Sorry to ruffle feathers... Damn... People need to chill... It's only a forum and nobody on this site is in high school. *stepsoffsoapbox -
Weight Loss On Pre-Op Diet
vanessa1215 replied to BandedBettyBoop's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am shocked the nurse let you cover up with bandaids... They use electrical current tools to control bleeding during surgery, also you could swell even more during surgery and cause loss of circulation especially is fingers and toes, plus rings harbor large amounts of germs. My hospital wouldn't allow any jewelry at all, as most hospitals I know... Maybe different for laparoscopic procedures in certain places but that nurse shouldn't have allowed that and it's definitely out of the "norm". -
A lot of the people on here talk about Carb Cycling... Maybe someone can chime in with further detail and help out!

I have an appt with Adam on the 28th and will ask...

I can't wait to be more comfortable on the back either! I don't ride my own, mainly the reason you don't... We live in MA so riding season is short and I don't see the need lol

Skin>-----12 Days Until The Beginning Of A New World.
vanessa1215 replied to Marybell's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
He won't love you any less, but there will be less of you to love! I have about 120 lbs to lose and was just banded. I would rather have the excess skin (i know i will have it per my body shape) and feel good and be without health issues than be fat and have health issues that would cause me not to be around for my 5 babies. They make some nice lingerie to disguise what you won't like if it helps you be comfortable while intimate... but I can promise the last thing on his mind will be excess skin -
This has been a God send for me today... Day 4 post op. Seems to calm my belly from rumbling and is also soothing compared to water or anything cold. Maybe this will help someone else out in their post op process... Sure would have loved this info on day 2 an 3 ;p

Gas X Thin Strip Vs Gas X Chewable For After Surgery
vanessa1215 replied to MissPYT's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
CVS has their brand of adult Tylenol. Post op, I couldn't imagine having to they down tsp after tsp of children's liquid to get the recommended dose! Lol Chewable gas tablets worked for me, I didn't try the strips so I can't attest to that. I am 6 days post op and can tell you each day gets easier. Good luck and God speed! -

Is This Normal Or Should I Call The Doctor?

Sugar free mints or gum help with dry mouth -
I was banded just this last Tuesday FYI

Take your pain meds as prescribed, don't skip doses. Push fluids as much as you can and continue to rest. Day 3 was the worst for me as well if some of the pain is from gas, walking helps as well as gas x strips. On a brighter note, day 4 got much better when I realized warm tea was my savior and became hydrated enough. Prayers for a better day!

Is anyone able to eat an occasional fry? I have no intention of any time soon since I'm only 6 days post op, however, I do love fries and would love to one day be able to have 3 or 4 with a burger patty (no bread lol) Maybe not a huge concen, but I can't imagine never having a fry again HA!
