  1. I thought I was going to breeze right through this operation with no troubles. I was naive. Had my surgery on Monday 3/11 and came home on the 12th. Was prescribed Vicodin but only took 1/4 of the full dose the first day home. I don't have pain except when liquids hit my stomach....but boy is that excrutiating. I am sipping and walking but each sip is so painful when it hits the stomach. I have accidentally taken a good sized gulp and found it hurts less than the tiny sips. Do you think it's OK to take gulps instead? I am determined to be compliant in getting my Protein and fluids no matter what. I am going to re-introduce my pain meds today at full strength to see if that will give me the relief from the stomach pain. I have a normal body temperature and my incisions look good I think it is just gas pains that are getting the best of me? Am taking GasX strips and Prevacid. Other than experimenting with Fluid temperature and types of liquids does anyone have any advice for me? Thank you for your help, Carol
  2. I took a leap of faith after reading some positive reviews on the LuckyVitamin site about Isopure so i bought a 12-pk of the pineapple/orange/banana flavor. It's pretty awful but i plan to dilute it with Torani/Mio/Crystal light. It makes my mouth feel like the after taste of eating sweetarts or pixie stix only the other heavy note in the after taste is that of rotting fruit! I will figure out a way to drink them and if not I'll see if someone at support group might like them. I live in a rural area and don't have GNC but I would like to try single bottles of the other flavors. If anyone knows of anywhere to buy the singles (online is cool) let me know. Finding a tolerable RTD Protein is such an individual thing. I share what I buy with another pre-op buddy and she loves the ones I think are rejects......go figure. Thanks, Carol Pre-op (approved!) Heparin shots at home

I am pre-op and my surgeon warned me that he requires 5 daily shots to be done at home leading up to the surgery day. He said he prefers to err on the side of caution where blood clots are concerned and requires this of everyone. He does many laporiscopic procedures not just bariatric surgeries. I don't think I can give myself a shot so I will need to find a friend to help me get this done. Carol in AZ Pre op for a sleeve in Feb 13 Dr. Monash

    Folks Who Have Had Complications

Interesting topic. I am a newbie who just had a consultation with a bariatric Center of Excellence surgeon. He said that COE practices had to have a much better than average record of complications to earn this honor. He was upfront with his track record....no leaks in 2000 sleeve surgeries and no DVT clots. One fatality, portal thrombosis. He says his biggest concern is clotting. He makes you get blood-thinner shots for 5 days prior to surgery. He also has you get an ultrasound of the legs to look for clots before the surgery. He says he double stitches the area that gets stapled to ensure it remains leak-free. From all i know this could be the standard thing tall surgeons do but i thought i would mention it so we could compare notes. He also recommended I consider the RnY surgery because he performs these in a less drastic way than most surgeons by bypassing less of the digestive tract and therefore less risk of vit/min deficiency problems. I still want the sleeve. I am a determined to make it work and IMO it seems to be the best option for the least complications while getting the most hunger control. Carol from az

    Syntrax Nectar Question!

Dexter, I loved your special instructions for shipping. LMFAO I just put that on my online order form from Chike Nutrition and I got the cutest drawing ever. It's a cat licking it's whiskers and winking! I clipped it out and put it on my fridge. What a hoot! I'm going to try it again. I have been amused all day over it so I guess it was worth the little bit of wierdness I felt when I requested it. The employee must have gotten a kick out of it, too. Great idea and I thank you for sharing it!! Carol (newbie from AZ)
  6. Hello all, Newbie here, pre-op trying to get ready. I searched the archives but did not come up with a answer. I only own a cheapo blender and know I will need to buy something new for the pureed food and Protein shakes. I don't want to spend hundreds, just not buy the wrong moderate priced model. What works well and is easy to live with? I work full time and will be taking stuff to work or maybe i should have one of those immersion blenders to keep at work? Thank you for your input!
