    Concerns about "Getting Busy"

I'll be 5 weeks post-op on Wednesday- my boyfriend and I haven't done it since I've had my surgery, however, I told him to get ready for the weekend!! I'm nervous and anxious but SO excited!

    Constipation

I'm a little more than 3 weeks post op and eating soft foods. I do 1 protein shake (divided into 2 meals), 1 snack (yogurt or cottage cheese) and 1 meal a day. I've had grilled chicken and veggies and eggs for the main part and I'm still so extremely constipated. I've taken Ducolax and it has helped but are there any other tips?

    Ugh so discouraged!!

I have been in the same boat these past few days, however, today I am feeling much more positive! What many on here have told me as well as my nutritionist is that the scale doesn't always show the work you're putting into this when you want it to. My nutritionist told me that my body is still adjusting and although I may only be down 1 pound this week, next week I may and most likely will be down more! You're already down 29 pounds! That's wonderful! I'm sure you're just upset because you've had constant weight loss up until this past week so you're bummed out, right? Don't worry about it! The main thing to realize here is that you are still doing what you should be doing regardless! That's a success in itself! Think about the past, before you were banded... if you were feeling bummed out and losing motivation, would you just turn to food and say "forget this" and just eat your emotions away? You're dealing with these emotions completely differently and not turning to food! That's huge!!! Your behavioral changes are going to help you succeed on this regardless of what the scale says! Chin up, the scale will catch up to you!!

    Sipping, drinking, gulping

It's hard to remember to drink but for me when I don't drink I start wanting it because my nought gets dry. However, I bring two 25oz Water bottles to work and make sure I drink one before my lunch and the second by the time I get home that way I am 50oz down before 4:00 everyday! Sometimes I have some left And finish it during my workout and I try to get at least another 15oz in by the time I go to bed. I think I'm more consumed with making sure I'm drinking enough than eating!!
  13. Ok this is going to sound weird but I didn't sneeze for I think a week after surgery! Haha. I did cough though and just like Missy said, I used a pillow to press against my belly, but I also didn't cough as hard because it hurt me. I did a lot of clearing my throat and that helped me! After a while I forgot the pain I was in from coughing and coughed regularly without any problems.

    Timeline

MagnaCare, but I also had to go through my Union which was the bigger hassle. Not only did my doctor's office do a great job talking with my union and insurance, but I also constantly called them both to find out who I could talk to in order to get this process on the road. I don't know how I got so lucky, but I did! Between my first appointment up until they requested insurance approval I had to go to a psychologist, get blood work, a chest x-ray, UGI, an endoscopy, get a letter of medical necessity, and go to a pulmonologist. I managed to get that all done in less than a month!

    crossed over :)

What a HUGE accomplishment!! Something like that can really help put all of your hard work and dedication into perspective! It obviously paid off!! Keep up the great work and watch how quickly you're going to share another story about when you're smaller!! So happy for you!

People are noticing...and I am anxious!

First of all, congratulations on your success and having people notice! That is usually the best feeling, at least for me! I was also and still do feel the same about having the band. I don't know if I'm necessarily ashamed or embarrassed, but I do feel weird when I talk to people about it. Oddly enough, I openly admitted it to all of my Facebook friends the night before and the responses were overwhelmingly supportive! I do know that there are some people that still look at me as the girl who had to turn to weight loss surgery in order to lose weight, but here's my opinion on that- I'm going to be judged whether I lose weight on my own (and probably gain it back), stay overweight, or have weight loss surgery. I'd rather be judged for having weight loss surgery and reaching and maintaining my goal weight and healthy lifestyle above anything else! For me, having the band has been the most security I've ever had in terms of getting healthy and reaching my goal. Granted, I'm only 1-month post-op, but so far I feel pretty darn good! I'm learning to care less about what others think of me and care more about what I think about myself. With all of that said, the band is a private matter and it is completely up to YOU who you share that with. There is a chance that some of the people at your job may have told others (that happened to me) but regardless, unless they've heard it from you, no one will know for sure. You can tell and not tell whoever you want. This is your journey and you are in charge! I feel that people will treat you based on how you come across. In other words, I didn't want to hide that I had my surgery because then I felt that others would assume I was embarrassed about it and I would become the talk to the town... So, me yelling it to the world I felt that I was showing people I was proud of my decision and I could care less what others thought about it! I have people every day asking me how I'm doing, that I look great, and that they're so happy for me! It feels great! The choice is yours.. you will know what is right for you. Just be proud of your decision to get the band.. it takes a really courageous person to go through this!
  18. this is my first snow day that I will NOT be sitting around eating all day! :) YAY NSV!

    Feeling your port

You pointed out something very powerful- that the fear is not in losing the weight but your ability to maintain the weight loss. Also, slipping back into your old habits. I feel the same way. I have been upset that the scale didn't move this past week for me, but I completely forgot to emphasize how amazing I have been doing on changing my habits. As many have pointed out to me, the scale doesn't always show what your habits are. In other words, it may take time for the scale to show the changes you have been making. I feel that changing your habits is the most important part of this! Of course we all want to lose weight as fast a possible and lose as much as possible, but it's the changing of our habits that will truly define our success with the band. I'm sure you will the strength to push through the moments when you want to slip back into your old habits. I'm no pro when it comes to being banded (I'm only 1 month post-op) but if you ever want to just vent, talk, or whatever, please feel free to PM me on here! You can do it!!

    Feeling your port

I just started feeling my port in the past few days as the first time I felt it I got nauseous! Lol. Now I find myself still getting grosses out but interested in feeling it! How did you react when you felt your port for the first time? This is so weird! Haha
  22. WOW!! Look at you!! Amazing job! Keep up the GREAT work!

    Feeling your port

I feel the same way (with being in control and not in control). This is a wild process! I have days where I feel amazing and powerful and other days when I feel totally bummed out and slowing losing motivation. I have days where I'm happy and days where I'm extremely irritable. Days when I'm starving and days where I'm okay. In the end, I am so happy about my decision to get banded and wouldn't have changed a thing! Good luck to you! Keep your head up, this is a learning process! Everything will eventually fall into place for you!

    Does your Surgeon...

I love my doctor's office as well! His entire team is incredible! They called me 2 or 3 days post-op to check on me, see how I was doing, and to reinforce the importance of drinking even if it was difficult. I also have been there every week to 2 weeks since then! Having a doctor and team who truly cares about your well-being makes this entire experience that much better and more enjoyable! I'm happy you found a great doctor as well!! Good luck to you!
