All, Just got my first fill on Friday, 4-13-07. 1 cc. Was excited, but since then it has been mostly liquids. I could do small amounts of food, chewed VERY well. BUt even if I have a yougart, at first my stomach tightens. At 11:00 am had a yoplait yougart. Then about 1:00 got a cheese omelet because knew I had forgotten food for today and cafeteria was closing. After about 4 bites, got bad pain. Had to stand up. Even burped (which I never do). After a while I was able to walk to bathroom, and yes, got sick. What does this mean? Will I make my band move? Help!!:help:

mannamay, it is perfectly normal to be nervous as you get closer. i was excited but nervous. I kept second guessing myself and asking my fiancé "am I doing the right thing?". Even though i had researched for like 1.5 years, had the perfect doctor, etc. I heavily thought about backing out. I kept thinking, "hell, I can do this myself, it is just common sense, and determination" But then i had a reality check. i thought of all the diets i had tried. i thought of my job and my lifestyle and how I hibernate so many of those factors that scientists today have discovered lead to obesity. I realized that I really need this step to get my life back. yes, i will have to exercise and eat right, but I need that feeling of fullness. I needed to slow down too. I did it for all the people I love and who love me so that i would be here for them for a long time. And by the way, you will have some doubts after too, "can I do it?" "Why aren't I doing better?". We are over-eaters because of these types of self doubts. Don't kid yourself, if all were right with the world and our egos were what they should be, we wouldn't be overweight. Ever notice some people just take the time to exercise. they make sure they do. If something else falls by the wayside, they feel that are worth it and that it isn't selfish because by taking care of themselves, they are taking care of others too. They will be healthy and be there for them. Sort of goes back to what they used to tell us when we were kids ' you must love yourself before you can love others'. We, especially women, wind up taking care of others and not taking care of ourselves. Everyone else's needs are more important it seems. Well, that is just wrong. Now is the time we need to take for ourselves. You deserve it and don't let those little fears (even if they seem big at times) stop you from putting you first for once!!!!

reqgoddess replied to melissa SC's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just out of curiosity, why wouldn't they cover lapband but would cover bypass with is like 100 times more risky? Have you talked with them or maybe have your MD talk with them. My MD was all for the lapband but told me no, no no!! for bypass. -
less than 24 hours til surgery
reqgoddess replied to lost_secret's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, enjoy. Even when it is uncomfortable, it is for you!! You deserve this new life. So, keep that in mind. Also, i didn't know about this site pre-op but they have a list of comfort stuff you may want to check out. i wish i had. Also, if one side hurts more then the other to sleep (some people have port side uncomfortableness), get one of those pads that simulate a tepurpedic bed. I had given my daughter one, wasn't expensive, got it in walmart, and I used it to make life easier after surgery. It helped alot!!! -
vegitarians can eat ice cream, cheesecake and all other kinds of bad stuff. My sister and both her grown daughters are vegitarians (mostly vegan but will have some butter to cook with) and they are thin, but they watch their weight. My sister will not eat more then 1500 calories a day and she runs 4 miles every morning. She watches everything she eats. Some things are very healthy for you, totally vegan but are fattening. Example: real peanut butter. very healthy, very fattening. My sis and i talk a great deal about different foods and the calories they have. We even email each other with "GROSS" items like an article over starbucks new coffee which was like 700 calories per cup. BTW, I mak a mocha latte at work that is 130 calories for 20 ounces. I use NESCAFE instant coffee, one envelope of nestle hot cocoa (80 cal) and 0ne envelope of fat free hot chockalte (50 cal). Just add hot water nd stir. You need no sugar or milk which gets rid of that always trying to keep milk in the workplace fridge, etc.

reqgoddess replied to michelletur's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
did you go back to liquids? Not clear liquids, but a full liquid diet shoul straighten that out. -
I wish I had found this forum before my surgery. You are all such a big help. I am truly grateful that i at least found it soon after!!!!

Yes, I can relate. My port lets me know it is there. Like you said, not pain, but sometimes when i lay on my side, I can feel it. I think because i sleep on a mattress with springs. Even though it is a good mattress and only like 2 years old, I can feel it.

Pre-Op With Huge Concerns
reqgoddess replied to CatherineA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the most important thing here is to research your doctor. You must feel comfortable with him and his office. I love my doctor, so I feel comfortable asking him anything. My doc also made us go to 6 health awareness classes with support groups. So, many questions were answered there, too. These classes teach you nutrition, how to eat before and after the band, things like that. My surgery which i thought would be in January winded up being the last day in February, but it worked out even better. Gave me even more time to feel secure. -

lapbandit, Your achievements are truly amazing and an inspiration to us all. Can I ask you, are you excercising too? If so, how? treadmill and weights? -
Can i ask, what is "PB'ing"? It seems like it is throwing up but what does each letter stand for? "What is MRSA"? While on the subject, is DH = darling husband? Sorry, still trying to learn all the lingo.

Need Help with protein shake.
reqgoddess replied to captain danbo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor told me medifast. I like the "ready to go" in dutch choclate flavor. has lots of vitamins, 90 calories, 11 grams of protein, and only 1 gram of fat. MUCH better then most. But, the powder isn't as good. The straw is a pain, but the drink is pretty good. Also, medifast has hot chocklate for 110 calories, with a 14 grams of protein and again, lots of vitamins. go online and order, thdy come to your house. I ordered 3 cases of the ready to go, and i am out of them, ready to reorder. -
thery are chuck full of vitamins too.
-
I found the medifast "ready to go" dutch chocolate protein drinks the best. My doctor recommended them. I have one every morning on the way to work. 6 times LESS fat then slimfast; 1/2 the calories of slimfast with more then double the protein. tastes beter too. You ordeer htem on line and they come to your door. I keep mine in the fridge so they are nice and cold.

Imus show suspended due to racial comments
reqgoddess replied to foodstampchamp's topic in Rants & Raves
hi foodstampchamp, your son sounds sweet. Here in Jersey, for pre-K age kids they offer a pre-k for kids with special needs where it can affect their learning. Also, the school has speech classes in them. check your local schools they may have the same thing. My daughter was misdiagnosed by teachers as having a hearing problem because she had a speech problem. She passes all hearing tests even the "in depth" ones by a hearing center, but she is in speech class and has mastered all but those tricky R's. -
George Bush: Worst American president in history
reqgoddess replied to Sunta's topic in Rants & Raves
Bush himself announced (finally) that there was no link between 911 and IRAQ. Lord, just listen to the man's speeches. and Yes, we have been bombing IRAQ for all those years which is why any idiot would know that there were NO WMDs. We have UAVs all over the place there and intel aplenty. Common sense even plays into to this. We ruined the infrastructure back in 1991. Children there have been dying from having diarrhea thanks to the polluted water and no antibiotics thanks to the sanctions imposed all those years. And lets not forget the types o Cancer that is rampant in the kids since 1991 that they never had those types of cancers before. Oh, and BTW we are a long way to go before we are done in Afghanistan. I have no problems with us being in Afghanistan but we shouldn't be in IRAQ. Now we created such a situation, we are in a catch 22. Bush has failed in EVERY job he has ever held. He shouldn't have been allowed to add this one to the list. I don't just blame him though. I blame the wimpy, congress that was in there at the time. How DARE they screw with our constitution. -
how are you foodstampchamp?

I gave up soda a couple of years ago because itis just so bad for you. There is not just nothing in there thata is healthy. EVERY ingredient is harmful. The acid alone is so bad for your insides. Now with our stomas in a delicate condition, I would be afraid even more. Funny, though, a few months ago i tried some diet pepsi (a sip of my daughters at a party) and it was terrible. really is like cigarettes. I never for a million years thought i would NOT LOVE the smell of a cigarette, but now it really bothers me. Same with the soda. They are just addicitions. You are addicted to the sugar combos in there but once you clean you body of it, the body sort of rejects it later.
