I had Dr. McDonald (Upstate) and I think he and the practice are fantastic! I can't say enough good things about them. Dr. McDonald really takes his time to explain things. In August I had the sleeve done with Dr. DeSimone. I have to say, it didn't go well. I'm sure he has done many surgeries that are successful, and I guess it was just my (un)lucky day when he operated. The practice left much to be desired, in my opinion.

It does help, thank you. I guess I am just worried about it because I can't keep eating like every hour (which I can seem to do...) once I go back to work because I'm a teacher. I just want to be able to eat like 2oz of protein in like a half hour! Haha. Maybe once more swelling goes down the restriction will ease a little, and I'll ask my surgeon when I see him next.

Hi! I live in Syracuse and I had my surgery on 12/17 also with Dr. McDonald (same practice as Dr. Simon I believe). How are you doing? -
I have an embarrassing question
abbybeep replied to mary2008's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When was your surgery? My first one was in August and up until recently I was Never in the mood. (Before surgery I was... But not after). Although I think part of it was a change in hormones, I think I was also uncomfortable with the changes going on with my body. Now that the changes have slowed and I'm spending more time dealing with these changes, the drive is slowly coming back. Personally, I was really depressed and concerned about it because everyone was posting about how good sex was and I didn't want it at all! It'll come back -
I had surgery 12/17 and I felt like I could eat more than I was supposed to sometimes. Well yesterday, that all came to an end. All of a sudden I can't fit what I could in the past week or I'll get sick! Weird, but I have to go much slower than just a few days ago. Hopefully this will happen to you too!

Had the vertical sleeve 8/6/2012... after months of complications I was converted to RNY on 12/17/2012. Down almost 90 lbs! Here is my before & after -
I had a dream about Reese's peanut butter cups last night. But I didn't remember it until this evening when I saw one in the store... I'm thinking it'll go away with time

Good! Keep on them! I'm 10 days out from surgery and I'm doing fabulously! Moved to purée and mushy food! I'm 166 lbs there at the dr office. 26 lbs to my goal! Wow!!!

Surgery is in 2 days and I'm feeling super nervous.
abbybeep replied to Timmers's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Tim! I think the complication rate (at least when I had the sleeve it was) is around 1% depending on the specific complication. You're right, you're going to find a lot of people talking about complications because they are upset. You know, I was even one of them! I had the sleeve in Aug and it didn't go so well so 12/17 I had rny! Of course I was so nervous about my second surgery. There were a lot of "what ifs" floating around in my mind. My surgeon said something really really comforting to me that I'd like to pass along. He said, "There's always something we can do to fix it." When I really stopped and thought about it- it helped me feel better about the decision I was making- which I knew was the right decision, I just needed a little help Good luck, you'll do great!! -
Just want to bang my head against the wall...

Btw I'm fairly certain my paperwork has mashed potatoes listed as a food that I can have once I start purées. It was never a trigger food for me- so why not?! -

All I'm saying is each surgeon's plan is different in terms of when it's ok to introduce foods- and you should always follow your surgeon's plan!!! I applaud everyone for making good choices, it's not easy! I just hope we can continue to provide non-judgemental support for each other! -

Every surgeon's plan for reintroducing food is different. I'm supposed to do 9 days of Clear liquids only and then head right to purées. When I originally had my sleeve the plan was different then because it was a different surgeon. 4 days post op she's not going to hurt anything by having some potatoes. Also, I have to say this thread is a little disheartening :/ I was a member of VST when I had my sleeve and I ended up not using it because it was so negative and hateful towards people who made different choices about what they ate. We're all different so we will all make different choices. This food addiction is tougher for some to keep under control than it is for others. That's ok. I just hope this forum continues to be supportive and not shaming people that make choices that others may not... -
I had my surgery on Monday, 12/17, and I have lost 12 lbs. I know my situation is somewhat unique: I had a vertical sleeve gastrectomy in early August of this year, but was unable to keep myself hydrated... I lost a bit over 70lbs in 19 weeks with the sleeve and then they converted me to bypass (my sleeve was all sorts of messed up!). My surgeon has me on just clear liquids until like Thursday, so I've just been doing water & Isopure as much as possible. I'm not dehydrated. So, is 12lbs too much? totally nervous!

How much is too much?
abbybeep replied to abbybeep's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks! I just figured since I'm not up where I was before- 250s- and down in the 170-160 range that I would lose slower this time after surgery. It's hard to fathom that after 20 weeks I'm so close to my goal! I'll be back where I was weight wise in high school almost 10 years ago! -
-
Just a little update- I wish you all well- I will be converted to bypass (most likely) on Monday by Dr. McDonald and Dr. Kim at Upstate! I'm excited for all your upcoming surgeries!!
-
Awesome!!!

Congrats!!! Yay!! My surgery is at community general. Tomorrow I see dr McDonald to see if we can do anything sooner. If I try really hard I can get fluids in- only when I'm standing for hours on end... I guess it could be worse but it's getting painful standing so much.

Vertical Sleeve Revision To Rny
abbybeep posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hello. This is my first post over here on RNY Talk- I've been a member on Vertical Sleeve Talk for a few months. I had the sleeve on August 6th and it is has been quite a terrible journey! My surgeon could not figure out why I was vomiting daily and having trouble staying hydrated. I have a new surgeon now and he believes that he will need to do a revision surgery to the RNY. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this type of revision an what it was like? I hear your pouch is super small... Just looking for any pointers.... -
Vertical Sleeve Revision To Rny
abbybeep replied to abbybeep's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Thanks. I wish my sleeve would have worked. I need to be converted because my sleeve is most likely twisted and so it's a challenge to get anything through, even liquid! I've lost 65lbs so far, and I'm about 45lbs from my goal. I'm sure rny will keep the weight loss up. Good luck to you! -
Vertical Sleeve Revision To Rny
abbybeep replied to abbybeep's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I hope mine isn't much smaller! Haha! Although anything is better than what I'm going through now! The revision is happening because my sleeve is messed up :/ I thought maybe there would be someone out there with a similar experience... -
Any dates yet, girls? I'm looking at surgery possibly on Dec 31- it's "exploratory" to see what's going on but will most likely turn into bypass surgery once they take a look. I hope I go for surgery earlier. It's getting more difficult to stay hydrated! I have to stand all day (literally)!
