    Reluctant Spouse

My husband was also leary due to the scary issue of "it is still a surgery". He also likes me the way I am but also has learned from the past 3 1/2 years we have been married that I am honestly not happy with my self and that every failed attempt to lose weight puts added pressure on me. He was around when my mom had Gastric bypass and was really not happy about me looking into that method. Those parts that are bypassed might be needed later on and so on. he is on board with me know, he found the doctor that I am going to have surgery by. The best thing that you can do is to sit him down in front of the computer and ask him to research it.. for himself as well as you. dont tell hiim where you have gone (site speaking) then after he has had a few days of that... talk about it. What really sold my hubby on it is that I am mainly doing it for my health! Yes the part of being a smaller size is a huge benefit but the real reason behind me having the surgery done is to better my health! Fact is.. being over weight is not just about feeling bad about yourself but also about the health risks assoicated with it. After my Ron looked into what other types of health concerns I have to look forward to if I dont do something about my weight and do something that will help me to keep it off long term... he then switched gears and helped me find my doctor. He goes with me to every appointment so that he is in the loop.. he asks questions to the doctor and as a family we all have altered our eating habits. He is one of the lucky ones that doesn't have a weight problem, never has.. is tall and slender. But he knows that if we do it as a family, I will be more apt to succeed. Ask your man to help you... that you need his help because.. you do. It will be hard enough... and if those closest to you are eager to help you, it will make things a lot easier. My husband has already started looking online and researching different activities for us to get involved in so I dont have to just do my exercises alone by walking around the block alone. He is excited about helping me, and is finding a whole new world for us to join in...and all because I asked for his help. Its just a thought. If you want you can contact me and I can have my husband chat/email/whatnot.. with yours. Good Luck!

    NewHere!

Hello Heyyou! I will be having lapband on April 13, but my mom had gastric bypass- she doesn't have any problems with the wafers but she does get ill feeling after having the juice. She has a hard time with sugars and her chruch must use a sweetened juice. With the lapband you wont have those kinds of issues.
  6. Dustbenny! Congrats! Let me know how it goes in Mexico for you! For looked into going to Mexico for my surgery and Dr. Ortiz was one of the doctors I was checking into. Then I found a doctor in the same state I am in that will cost me less (cost of surgery + travel expences). Best wishes to you as well. We will have to keep in touch!

    Almost There

Hello I have been adding protein powder to my food since my mom had her surgery in 2004. We have stumbled on a protein liquid! I have been adding it to my breakfast smoothies and I don’t taste any difference but I get the protein along with my veggies and fruits. You can get it at Vitamin Cottage or other natural health stores.

I had my phone appointment with Paula yesterday. She was very helpful! I was pretty nervous about the pre op diet because of past experiences with Atkins. Every time I have ever tried Atkins I got violently ill, and was worried that I would get sick before surgery this time. She said that is will be okay for me to still make my smoothies in the am with veggies and FRUIT! That is so good, I thought that I might just have to have veggies in it but I can still add the fruit. If the fruit in the am is not enough and I start to feel sick she said that I can add half a slice of bread or a cracker… just to keep it down. If I loose weight the first week then I am on the right track. I plan to not eat bread/crackers in less I really have to. But I do hope that by keeping fruit in the meal plan that I will be good to go. She also answered my question about the South Beach Diet frozen meals.. those are a great choice on the pre op diet. Having the SBD frozen meals will help me a lot with my odd ball work schedule.

    Consultation

I had my first consultation with Dr. K on March 6, 2007. I am very impressed. From the short phone chats with his office staff I was put at ease. They are all very friendly and won over my husband which is not an easy task when it comes to medical things. Dr. K was very open and friendly. He answered all of my questions and explained in detail the procedure to ensure I knew what I was getting into. He explained about the different from the lap band and other methods of weight loss surgery. I am scheduled for a phone appointment w/ the nutritionist today after work. Then my pre op appointment is set for Friday, April 6 and surgery on Friday, April 13.
