Can anyone tell me what the recovery was like after band removal? Mine is coming up soon.

Mine did the same thing, basically. For no apparent reason I suddenly couldn't get anything down. It would take about 4 hours to drink an Protein shake. The only relief I would get when the doc would give me prednisone. It happened five times since Nov (about every two months) doc said that was way too much. He said I was having esophageal spasms. In some people the band will cause them.. Nothing was wrong with my band, no slip or erosion. I had my band removed Aug 26. I feel so much better. Eating normally again. Best of luck to you.

I'm wondering if anyone else has ever had this problem. This is the third time this has happened to me (I was banded Dec 2010). I'm going along really well, able to eat anything I want, and then one day I can't hardly get anything down and it it lasts for days and days! Right now I'm trying to make it on Protein shakes and mushy foods . The other two times the doc put me one prednisone and liquids and now I have no Fluid in my band, and it still happens! I get food stuck still, too. I have caught myself eating too fast, so I have slowed way down again. I have to admit that have been overeating, with no fills I get hungry a lot. I'm afraid I have stretched my pouch or the band has slipped! I don't have a problem with re-flux though. Any thoughts on this?

I just learned today from my doc that my band needs to be removed.....I've been having problems for months now. I go through spells of not being able to eat solid food and barely being able to drink! Five times I've been on Prednisone and it helps, but I don't like taking that stuff! Under the flouro my band looks pretty good, a little tilted and rotated, they said it wasn't bad. But, there's definitely something wrong. I'll be glad to get some relieve from this, but then again I so afraid of gaining back those 60 lbs. I lost. Is it possible to keep the weight off? I'm loving wearing my size 12's.

Need to have my band removed :(

My surgery was on a Monday also. I had to spend the night though. I think so my insurance would pay for it. Doc said I had a lot of scar tissue on the back side of my band that could have been causing the spasms. I'm not going back to work (clerical also) until Tuesday after Labor Day. I guess I could have gone back sooner, but I don't know....still a little weak. In the hospital I could only have ice chips, then after I got home full liquids for two days, puréed for two days and mushies for two days. After that food as tolerated. I'm glad right now I got it out because I feel so much better! -

I had to eat full liquids for 2 days, then puréed foods for 2 days then mushies for 2 days. I think I'm gonna stick with soups and stuff for the puréed stage and then to mushies....food is going down really well! -

Hey! Glad you got a surgery date. I doing really well, I can actually drink Water first thing in the morning and it goes all the way down! Can also swallow my meds again. Still somewhat sore, but not near as bad as getting the band put in. The gas pains are not as bad either. -

Good luck with your band removal.. Hope yours goes as well as mine...I'm wondering what it's gonna feel like to have my old appetite back, so nervous about re-gaining! Gonna try really hard, still gonna make good choices and eat slowly, like I did pre-op. -

Hope your removal goes well, mine is Monday morning. I'm scared about weight re-gain too! My bad self can't wait to eat a hot dog and a regular sandwich.....again. I know it's gonna be a hard road......

I think you're way too young to be making decisions like this. Try everything else first, get the tempting foods put of your house and start exercising and perhaps some therapy. Surgery is serious business...think about the reasons you overeat, is it emotional? Address that first, believe me, lap band does not fix emotional eating! Good luck.

Elliemayclem replied to greatlyblessmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like Chike protein shakes. They are a meal replacements. They sell them at my doctors office or online at ilikechike.com. 190 calories and 27 grams of protein. Low in sugar. -

Mine was doing that off and on and I have no fluid in my band. The surgeon totally unfilled it because of it. The only thing that worked for me was prednisone. You need to call your surgeons office. He said my was spasms. You don't want to get dangerously dehydrated. Good luck. -
I currently have no fill in my band and it still shuts off and I can't eat or drink!

I having it removed because of esophageal spasms and my body is not accepting it anymore . That's what the surgeon said it was. It's been 5 times now that I can't eat anything solid or barely drink anything for weeks at a time. The only thing that clears it up is steroids. The doc said that is way too many times for that to happen. I've had my band since Dec 2010, it helped me lose 60 lbs And I'm gonna miss having my weight loss tool. Really scared I'm gonna gain the weight back....

On waiting list for band removal
Elliemayclem replied to Dragonlily's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks for the positive vibes!! I want to maintain my weight, I didn't make it to goal, but close! The surgeon called it spasms, it would be like something gets stuck just a little bit and then I wouldn't be able to get anything else down for days and days, even liquids, barely. -

I'm on the waiting list for removal too. I'm having spasms too often, and the doc said it kinda like my body is not accepting the band anymore. I will spells when I can't eat anything solid and can barely drink anything. It takes me about 3 hours to drink a protein shake! I'm feeling OK at the moment....I hope I don't have to wait a long time. The band help me loose 60 lbs. (I was banded dec. 2010) I'm scared to death about regaining the weight back...sorry you're having problems too
