Anyone pay cash in California for their surgery? Wondering how much it cost. My insurance declined me even with pcos and a 36.7 bmi
-
A few years back my insurance didn't cover bariatric surgery. So in desperation for change I went to Mexico and had a lap band. Right away I got pregnant and did not get to use the band properly not to mention I had to pay cash for my fills. So now 4 years, I have been getting fills and unfils trying to find my green zone. I throw up a lot and the GERD is unbearable. Not to mention I haven't lost any weight. I have increased my exercise and see the dietician. Even signed up for extra nutrition counseling out of pocket. Well I want to have a revision and my insurance denied me. Said I haven't used my band the way I was supposed to and didn't have enough follow up care. I don't have high blood pressure or sleep apnea. I have pcos and sever GERD. I live on protonix bid and tums at least 3x a day I'm so heart broken and discouraged! Let me clarify. My insurance does cover bariatric now. And many of my coworkers have had the surgery some who even weigh less than me

Lap band to revision denied!
lace131 replied to lace131's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
If I could borrow the money I would!! I am tired of living in this prison. I barely eat d/t my band and throw up many times a day/week and I am not loosing any weight, however I am not gaining either. -
So I had my band placed 3 years ago, right away I got pregnant. My daughter is now two and I am so ready to start over. I had my first fill last Thursday. Since then I have been having pain with liquids and soft foods. Last night I woke up feeling like I was drowning and chocking from the acid reflux. The heart burn is so bad now I am sleeping in a recliner . I see the doctor tomorrow for some fluid removed. I am so discouraged. I just want this to work. I am tired of living overweight. I have tried everything. I'm about to give up.

My doctor won't discuss revision until I actually give my band a real chance

Thank you. She took the fluid out this morning so I can hydrate myself. Have to wait a month for another fill. Bummed. Losing 9 pounds in one week was nice but I was so weak from dehydration and only consumed 400 cal a day with much struggle. I just pray for patience and hope this works. It's been a long three years since being banded and I just want to use it to its ability. Wishing I would have went with the sleeve

I was banded a three years ago and got pregnant right away. I never did get s fill. I finally made my appointment last Thursday. Got my first fill. I feel very restricted but able to take fluids so I am leaving it. Down 6# in less than a week. Make an appointment it's never too late. -
Anyone have a fill during first trimester?? My Obgyn said it would be fine to continue to loose weight while pregnant as long as I am getting the nutrition and good foods I need and she will monitor babies weight and growth more closely. This made me happy but fearful. Anyone else have same experience???

I had my surgery in November and since I'm cash pay I haven't had as many fills as I should have I have only lost 37 pounds and I'm terrified of gaining it all back my first trimester. I have pcos so I am soo happy about baby but have to admit I'm said to not continue my weight loss...feeling sorry for myself today. I went through so much risk just to have this surgery scared I am gunna blow it and am so tired of this body!! It's hard to watch my stomach grow after watching it shrink. I know it's for the most wonderful reason in the world I can't wait for my little angel!! But..I'm still sad and scared about my lap band journey

Just found out I'm pregnant. I was banded nov 2012 I've lost 36# so far. I want a healthy baby of corse. But it would be a lie if I said I wasn't upset about stalling my weightloss for 10 months. My last pregnancy I gained 50#. I have only had one full so far due to being self pay and was scheduled for my second feel next week. I feel like I really haven't even started this journey. I have had miscarriages and have pcos so of corse I want this baby and healthy at that I just have to vent.

Looking For Detailed Stories From Anyone Who Has Been To Mexico For Lapband With Dr. Alamaza
lace131 replied to leelee_zo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded by dr almanza and had a great experience. I took my dad with me to feel safe. I agree with lining up a doctor for fills. I stayed at the hotel and it was very nice. I would do it again in a heart beat no regrets -

That's just the way they do it in Mexico. According to my dr here they use to do it like that in the US but now they use bigger bands further down. I don't think there is anything u can do about it u just have to learn what u can and can't eat and eat very slow. Set a timer and make ur one cup portion last 30 minutes. I had my ha my surgery with dr Almanza -

I too was banded in Mexico I was having the same shoulder pain after every time I ate it was horrible. I went for my follow up here in the states. The surgeon told me that the doctors in Mexico place the band higher on the esophagus so u don't have as big of a pouch. I have a lot of stuck episodes if I don't pay attention to how fast I'm eating. There are a lot of foods I have to avoid. I have lost 35 pounds so far. I don't eat til after 11 am. I watch my portions. Sometimes if I eat a heavy meal or try and push it on my portion size I still get the shoulder pain not very often anymore. -
Was wondering if any of you have been pregnant since the band. My husband wants to have another baby of course I am going to wait longer but we r thinking of trying come fall... How was pregnancy, eating, and weight gain???

Of course u want to follow what your dr says. My dr allows yogart and I'm 5 days post op. I was eating yogart on day 2 without problem. U can always liquefy it with nonfat milk. Just trying to help. Was amazed by the 23g of protein. Also I am not big on sugar substitutes but truvia is sweet and not too bad tasting. Good luck and hang in there!!!

Nonfat plain Greek yogart sweetened with truvia has 23g of protein!!
