    Kaiser Questions

WOW, I know everyone's insurance is different however if my insurance didn't cover my surgery it would be 12500 out of pocket and that would cover everything all appointments also they require half down and then we'll set up the remaining 6000 divid it into payments.. 4 years ago when I had the Lap-Band it came back that my insurance didnt covering the surgery that I wanted which was the sleeve they Said it would be 17000 cash so I ended up paying $9,000 and went with the Lap-Band I wish that I would have done more research and looked at other facilities however I was vulnerable and was desperate for anything now I have to deal with this thing until I can get it out and have the sleeve done...in which I hope is soon!!!!!! Help!

They are kind of expensive, but totally worth it for the Protein if you have a chip craving I would but one of those in my mouth ( guilt free, lol) and they are nowhere near the price that you will pay if you eat regular chips:) Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

Second thoughts, op next week :(

Hi, I had lap band 4 years ago ( FYI...This is just my experience and doesn't reflect on what others have went thru or what you might) The first year was ok, however I never found my sweet spot or "Green Zone" I have had complications for almost the whole time I have had the band such as throwing up, food intolerance, band to tight to loose lots of maintaining and additional cost meaning the fills etc. I have had heartburn and can fill the band inside of my stomach. I will say this has hindered my weight loss as eating a regulated diet has been hard and inconsistent because I really can only eat what my band allows me to eat. The reason I went with the band was because I was self pay and that's what I could afford and also the doctors office manipulated it that way because I originally had been in the process to have sleeve because I thought my insurance was going to cover it however two months in it turned out that was not the case and I was desperate for anything to help get my weight off and to live a healthy life. Now, present day I will be having revision surgery to take the band out and have the sleeve done { do to complications} My band has slipped from the years of the food getting trapped constant throwing up and also I again have a hernia. I think the sleeve is the best way to go for me. I like that it is permanent and they also cut out the hunger hormone which will make you not have an appetite although it will start reproducing itself, but not for almost a year. With the band I am still always hungry and always have been.. Yes, both hungry hungry and head hungry that's the biggest fight the gnawing head hunger lol.....You have get yourself as mentally prepared as possible and know there has to be a lifestyle change in order to be a healthy you. We are all humans and make mistakes my biggest fault is I am to hard on myself and i give up and give into addition which is food i know and am aware of that, I am no longer in denial about it no more excuses for me this time will be different I am fingers crossed picking the right surgery that won't have all the complications such as the band did and will go to support groups as well as go to counseling. You still have time research your options and find resources to help with your addition... if you have weighed out the pro and cons and are sure the band is what you want go for it!!!!! but if you haven't please do more research there is time to change your mind on what surgery will be best.....I wish I would of and I didn't this time I have weighed out all options pro and cons and have ask many questions to make sure the sleeve will help be the best tool in order for me to be the best me. Like I said this is my personal experience and thoughts, I don't in anyway want you to back out of having the surgery because of it!!!!! Everything happends for a reason and I am more mentally prepared than I ever was;) Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

Is the sleeve really "just as good"

That's, why I weighing out the options I have read many people that have the revision from band to sleeve have had mostly complications due leaks so they end up having the bypass to correct it. So I was thinking maybe the bypass would be best... Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

Is the sleeve really "just as good"

Fair enough, However, the lap band has been horrible for me I have had it 4 years and have had nothing but complications which has hindered my results. I would never have another surgery if it was anything like the band and I'm sure other Banders with complications would agree on that. That's why It's Important to me to research and become educated on the surgery I choose to have because the band was a tool and it failed I have never been able to eat chicken or turkey veges and have them stay down or even Protein shakes after several adjustment and $$$$ i never had a sweet spot due to continously throwing up my band had slipped defeating the purpose of having it and I again have a hernia, Thats why the tool matters to me. I understand for some they have had great results and no problems with the band that's wonderful Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

Is the sleeve really "just as good"

You are not the only one with the same fear and thoughts I am planning in having the sleeve main reason the though of the hunger hormone being cut out I'd very appealing to me;) I too have had horrible results complications with lap band ugh...This the reason for the revision, I was researching the by pass as well same reason as you!! I know many people that have had the by pass including 4 family members and a few friends out of say 8.. 2 gained their weight back Also, a good friend had the sleeve 2 years ago and has lost 100 lbs although she didnt previously have the band I know truly is on how we change our eating habits a d finding the right tool to help and the band sucked!!! I never found my sweet spot and was ALWAYS HUNGRY!!!! I have read the sleeve complication section and see most people with complications have to have a by pass so..... I'm glad you posted this because it will be interesting to hear more suggestions and I agree I want to get this one right this time... Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

    Feeling bad

I think it would make me scared! I'm having the revision after lap band failure and complications and that's what I am terrified of my horrible relationship with food...I eat bad things now and feel guilty, but..... that make me eat more etc that's my pattern...Don't worry we are not perfect and we are far from it it's done and over just move forward I think this time I'm going to seek counsling and group meetings more frequently to see if that helps with my love hate relationship with food.. However, we are all made different and think different thats why this forum is so great to see and hear different perspectives:) YOU CAN AND WILL DO THIS!!!!!!!! 23. WoW, Thanks for sharing your story, I had lap band 4 years ago and have had nothing but complications. Therefore, I am having a revision and removing the band and having the sleeve done I am much more nervous almost scared yet excited for the surgery and the adventure I think I amostly afraid of failing and the biggest my addiction with food!!!Fighting "Head Hunger" LOVE...1 is too many 1000x . Also, reading the horror stories on the complications thread lol. Of course there is always risk, I'm still moving forward. I to want the best out of life for me and my future with my other half and family, life is way to short to be miserable and my first surgery was cash pay, but "You know money comes and goes no regrets just do it" a friend said as I though I would have to cash pay again lol...Great story look forward to following more post!
