Never should have qualified for WLS. Complete waste of time, money and other resources. Epic fail.

Yeah I don't relish having had so many operations myself, and despite my post above, I did understand that you were posting out of concern. I wasn't going into it with my eyes closed, though, and I wanted you to know that.
I am still unsure though what you had hoped to achieve with that last post you posted. Was it a discussion you were after? Because I think that's what you got. If it was just for information, then it may well be that the content you posted actually came across as a little bit condescending to those that chose the band.
Either way, I personally have never had anything but support here in the complications forum, so maybe, just maybe, what you posted came across in the tone you didn't intend (or did intend), in which case, people responded to the tone of the post more than to YOUR specific complication(s). I hope you geniunely seek and get support here in the complications forum for your complications, and that you find peace in whatever happens in the future for you.

I apologize if I offended you. I was concerned about you having an unnecessary surgery, that's all. I'm 63, I hate to see a young person with the problems I have... The complications forum is the right place for me to post my issues, relevant information and frustration. There's no need to read my posts or comment if you disagree, but I'm stating the experience of myself and others who are having an awful time. It's really disheartening to constantly be criticized. I'm truly near the end of my rope.

Yesterday I posted some links with helpful information for those seeking revision published by a very well respected revision surgeon along with his comments about Lapband. So often we who have complications are told its our fault, the band doesn't fail, you overrate, ate too fast, didn't chew enough, ate the wrong foods, didn't call the doctor soon enough, etc. Dr Kesheshian's opinion of the band gives those who have complications some relief that the band can fail, cause lifelong complications and its not our fault.
This forum should be a safe place to discuss complications, free of criticism, judgement and bullying. If you are having no complications, by all means, read the posts, but please abstain from telling anyone they shouldn't post negative threads. I'm in need of some support too. I'm also trying to help others like me reach out for help with their band troubles. They're not going to do that if every time someone posts on here, everyone joins in, attempting to discredit them.
Right now, I'm scared, anxious and trying everything possible to keep my band. I don't want to lose the tool that helped me lose 90 lb, but I also cannot in good conscience recommend it to someone investigating WLS. My story isn't unique. Motility issues are more and more common in long term band patients. Most of the people I know who encouraged me to get my band have had complications and have had their bands removed/revised. It's scary when it happens to you, especially when you didn't cause the problems by noncompliance. I hope none of you ever experiences this misery...

You were throwing up before you started the Prilosec? Why did you start taking it? Were you having heartburn or other symptoms besides vomiting? Did you start Prilosec because your doctor recommended it?
Sorry for all the questions, but it's impossible to give relevant advice without more information. If you haven't called your doctor for the vomiting, you should ASAP.

My reply is to the juicing comment, in my opinion it is one of the worst things you an do. The band is meant to be used with high Protein solids. Juices will not keep you satisfied and have a lot of sugar. I have never seen this suggested before.

Have your family wipe down every surface in your house with Clorox wipes, confine the sickies to one area of the house and keep them, their trash and all the potentially infectious stuff away from you. If all else fails, go to a friend or relatives house till this passes.

I know how you feel. I came home Wednesday from surgery and Thursday my kids both had the stomach bug. My husband had me stay in my room and the kids in theirs. He went back and forth helping all of us and washing his hands religiously in between. My doctors office said wear a mask if I need to go into the common areas of the house and wash my hands a lot. I was told to have my husband spray bleach/water spray to clean surface areas and use lysol to help kill the germs. I was told to stay on top of my nausea meds as well just in case. Luckily, I made it through. They are no longer sick and I did not get sick either. Thank GOD for my husband and the advice of my doctor's office.

Hopefully the infectious period is over by the time you get home. Did you fill your prescriptions? One of them was anti nausea. How do you feel today? Any shoulder pain? Hope all is well.

    Good Evening,
Just remember to take it easy and listen to doctors orders...i remember walking around helped me a lot. These darn foreign things in our bodies, why can't they just behave! Glad it well though. Ok, I don't mean to make you feel "bad" but when I was reading your post you put "die to complications" I just about fell off my chair. Once I read the whole thing then I seen you meant "due to complications". Again, I am always making spelling errors and I am not trying to point it out to everyone, but when you see "die" in a surgery forum it catches your attention. Glad it was just due!!!! Have a good night and glad you are ok!!!!!!:

That's too bad, but it is a very fixable problem. I'm sure it will be fine now that it's fixed. I've heard of people needing the entire band replaced because of a leak or other defect. I hope you heal quickly and are back on track soon!

thank you so much for thinking of me. Actually today I did feel better. Still taking it easy with food, Soups and soft foods as my throat is swollen and my band is tight. Still have this awful cough but today I felt human again...lol, not amongst the dead. I guess they tested me for both types at Walgreens walk in clinic, heck I don't know, all I know is they tested me. This junk is finally breaking up in my chest and I can at least cough it up now, sorry for the grossness. I live with my 74 yr old mom, she makes a good nurse, blessed to have her.

aw thank you countrygrl. I slept off/on last night in my recliner with a Dachshund in my lap...lol Kept waking up coughing. My mom went to church this morning but I didn't so she brought home Wendy's chili which I was able to eat so I got some good Protein in that. Feel a little more human today well this afternoon that is. Still coughing my head off but don't feel as achy. Mad that I am not feeling up to taking a walk outside as it is 74 degrees here in Western Ky today. Maybe I will feel like it in the next few days, its suppose to be nice this week. Thanks again for thinking of me.

This is why a supervised preop diet and psych evaluation are necessary. Her band worked, she lost 10 stone (14 lb = 1 stone) or 140 lb and blew up her band. In this case it's a real waste of British taxpayers money.

Scorpio Girl reacted to Baba Wawa in Top Doctor's Opinion re Revision options-Posted on Complications Forum
Since I posted this on the complications forum, my intended audience is those having complications and perhaps looking into revision. The links I posted have some very relevant information for people like myself who are contemplating which surgery to revise to. This was in no way intended for those of you who are currently banded and having no problems.
I think the absolute intolerance of this sort of post is ridiculously immature.
Dr Keshishian is one of, if not the most respected revision surgeon in the country.
Context is important here...I posted on the COMPLICATIONS forum.

I won't lie, I worked my ass off to lose. But once I got to my goal weight, I actually stopped formally exercising and the weight kept dropping off. I eventually got to the stage where my BMI was under 21 and my dr was talking about unfilling me, so I actively ate to GAIN some weight. When I say it was effective, it was VERY effective for me. It took away my hunger almost completely.
Even now, when I get fills while waiting for my surgery, I can go from hungry to not hungry at all with the right fill level. It takes away cravings, keeps me full for hours and I can then go about living my life.
The band may not be successful for everyone as it was for me, but hell, what surgery gives you 100% gaurantees anyway? So you do your research, take a punt that it will work for you, and get on with it.
And you know what's NOT in the studies? I learnt more about food and hunger with my band than any othe time in my life. I gained initally when my band started leaking, and now I'm maintaining without the help of the band, and am in fact slowly losing. So it's given me more than it has ever taken. And that's MY opinion piece on it!
