have any of you wished you did gastric bypass instead
Angelhope82 replied to racheyrach's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had time to time that i wish i had but am happy I decided on the band. I still learning with my band. I know friend that lost all weight with bypass but never learned to eat. Its all what u are comfortable with. Pick the surgery you think with work for you. Both surgerys dont promise success, they cant. You can lose just as much with band as bypass. It can be quick or slow. -

3 fills in 1 month - anyone else???
Angelhope82 replied to CSinTX's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it be different if you were eating food. you dont even know how you handle food. I be concerned unless he doesnt want u to gain while u on liq. mayb then he work backwards. Be careful when u start eating, make him take some out if u cant eat. u also want to learn how to eat again. -

Think the DVD are as helpful as class?
-
Well i was banded almost 2yrs ago. lost 65lbs. for past year it is loss 2 lbs here and there. I will be honest and say i need exercise more. And sometimes my sweet tooth gets best me. but i maintain this fine but still need lose. Just wanted to see what everyone thought... Think i can get off more weight or should i learn be happy where i am??
-
Thanks. I do think i can lose more. Just need to be more strict with everything. Weight came off so easy at first. Even through i am still heavy this is the smallest i been since i can remember so kinda became okay with it. I do want to reach my goals, it will get take a lot longer than normal i guess. I do better when i am strict. Then there is no room to have anything sweet or not exercise. I have been doing better this month. Been working out 4 times a week, which i had stopped. It is amazing how hard it is after stopping. I just need to keep it up. I feel so much better when i keep it up. Starting wt 287- current 220-222. I had a lot up and down putting it on so i guess i should accept a lot up and down taking it off. Again thanks for responding, helpful hearing from others that know how hard it can be sometimes.

2-Week Pre-Op Diet
Angelhope82 replied to Poppadoc88's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The pre- op diet sucks. When I did mine I had to do 5 opifast shakes a day nothing else. Its rough to say the least. You u will tired, hungry and headache at first. Its cause by the carb withdraw. It normal last for the first 2-7 days. But if you stick to it the symptoms will go away and you be able to get through the 2nd week no problem. DRINK lots Water between shakes. I lost 19 lbs on my preop diet and didnt gain it back. Just a jump start to your lose and remember it make the surgery go easier with a little less weight off and a smaller liver. Good luck.... hope you feel better soon. -
I'm so sick of Nay sayers
Angelhope82 replied to warrior68's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Count me as a yes. I didnt tell many people just because of that reason. I am a nurse so I get to hear all kinda of interesting "ideas'' from people that think they know what the band is or every wls for that matter. A co-worker recently got gastric bypass, omg you would think she was going to kill her self the comments everyone was making. People just dont understand what either surgery has to deal with. it is a life changing surgery but not a death sentence to never eat food again. Only the 2 people know at work that I told. and this is a 1 1/2 yr later, everyone just thinks i eat smaller healthier meals. You are doing the right thing, RESEARCH for yourself. I had my surgery on a tuesday and back to work friday. Tired but 4 months not even close. Good luck with your journey!!!! -
Wow only 2 shakes the whole day? No other food? how many calories do they want u to have daily. just interested sounds strict. Good luck. my pre-op was 5 shakes a day x2weeks, no food

New with tons of questions/concerns
Angelhope82 replied to overweightny's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Q1- Can anyone that has had the ideal surgery and success give me an overview of what to expect? Only thing to remember is it is a tool. How you use it is how it works. Like anything if you fall off track and stop losing it just back to the calorie counting. Surgery itself isn’t bad. Little pain. Q2- What are the rules? What will I never be able to eat? What will I never be able to do? Sad to say it is hard to tell what you can and cant eat after surgery. EVERYONE is different. I can eat anything, paste and bread included, its just ALOT less now and I don’t eat it often. I can eat all meats including steak. Only thing that gives me trouble more than not is scrambled eggs its 50/50 with them. I still don’t drink soda. You can do anything, the band doesn’t stop any activities just a tool to help you eat less. Q3- Do you have any regrets? None. Cause I know if I didn’t I do believe my weight would have just kept going up. It can be a slow process but all good things come in time. Q4- What is the financial impact after the surgery? Groceries, supplements, etc.? I take 1 Vitamin a day by choice. Groceries go down a lot. You be amazed at what you eat after compared to before. -

Stocking up post-op
Angelhope82 replied to JMinDallas's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dont go to crazy buying the clear liq. It only a few days to a week and you wont be eating as much of it as you think. I think i had enough sf jello and cream soups to last a year. Gax x is great for the first few days but walking helps more. Liquid Tylenol is nice to have. Measuring cup a must. I take pills fine now but i still stick to the chewable vitamins. -
2 days into the liquid diet!!! Help!!
Angelhope82 replied to tryingtofindme's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am sure many people don't consider it clear. I had some when i was on clear for my post op. I just tried to have more the broth than the egg. But It did fill me up quick. Just take it slow if you are going to eat it. -
anyone out there had to start over
Angelhope82 replied to walkbyfaith's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had surgery 11/08. Did great the first 7 months. then I stopped losing or would lose 2 lbs then gain 2 the next month. SO my weight has stayed the same for months and months now. I have tried a fill like every other month. By doctor said i have to be eating to much to maintain the weight. So he told me to go back to writing it all down, and no more than 1000 calorie/day. He said i should have been sitting at my goal by now. So i am still filled but feels like i am starting almost over. start 287 current 227 Good luck... I think sometimes we just need to go back to basics. Its a tool... -
I had a gallbladder attack about 6 months after my surgery. My doctor said if it happened again I would have to have my gallbladder removed. Good luck.

Lapband being phased out in favour of bypass
Angelhope82 replied to Sarah.R's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very few people i work with know i had the band done and i am glad i kept it like that. People that want to put in there 2cents that dont know anything about it at all. Someone i work with just got gastic bypass done. So many of them are again the bypass talk so much trash and untrue information. I work for a large company and 2 people had the band in the past both have cancer ( no proof it is related to the band or even in the area where the band is )... but they are blame the band. There is no studies that show the band cause cancer it actually lowers the risk because of the weight lose. But you try to tell people the facts they only hear what they want to hear. Regardless it isnt important if u tell no one or everyone just what u are comfortable with. I told the people that are important to me in my life and they are support and want to learn about the band. But not everyone does, some people just want to believe what they want true or not. The band dont need defending but it is a part of me now, so sometimes we just want to let people know the truth. -
Before and after Food Budgets
Angelhope82 replied to AprilShowers2010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I spend around the same cause I exchanged eating out all the time for eating at home. Some days I wonder if I spend more even. My friend tells me my eyes need to catch up with my stomach. I think i need more food than i really do. Always learning. -
I just pasted my one year mark in Nov. Which I still can't believe. Okay don't get me wrong I am super happy with how things have went, I think without the band I would have just kept gaining. But the last few months have been been hard. first I stopped losing and even gained a some (10-14) lbs. I am scared this is it what if i cant get any lower. I was going to the gym 3-5 days a week now i can't seem to go back. I feel like i am slipping back into my old habits. I am not eating crazy or anything but i cant' get back into exercising. I want to but get over this standstill. Am i just a loser and can't motivate myself. Oh i guess it would help to tell you a little back ground information. Starting wt 287 current 230 ht 5' 4 1/2- Just started to lose again but it is super slow. I know it is cause i am not exercising but i dont know how to get motivated. I really want to make this work.

Need to refind my motivation.
Angelhope82 replied to Angelhope82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone, it does help to hear from others going through the same problems or just giving tough love. It all helps. I have been thinking a lot about why i started this path and i really want to complete it. I been doing good the last 2 days took a 3 mile walk the last 2 days. Just need to get back to why I made this choice. Thank you everyone. It really does help hearing from everyone. :w00t: -
0 pounds in 6 days!
Angelhope82 replied to lindac80's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Be careful with that mind set. you might even gain some weight once you start eating solid food again or before you get filled. just really depends on the person. You are doing great, it is just the start of your journey. Remember this surgery can take much longer for you to lose the weight. Not sure what you have to lose total. Good luck
