My band was done by Dr. Malley and I have been very satisified with him and his staff. Another source of information is the local band support group. Their web site is http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/KCBandsters/ I also found out that Dr. Opie with Midwest Surgical Association in Olathe will start doing bands this month. Good luck with your research.

Where are you in Kansas? I am in the KC Metro area.

I had a fill of 4 cc (1st fill - VG band) on 3/13. I felt restricted for 3 days, by Thur, 3/16, I was back to being able to eat likle before the fill. My Dr. has scheduled another fill on 3/27. Any suggestions on the amount of this fill? I am trying to relearn to eat and it is hard when the restriction goes up and down.

I had my band on 2/2 and felt the same way. In talking to others, it is not unusual for some of us to be this way until the 1st fill. I have mine on 3/13. I can't wait. I lost 10 pounds the first week and none since then.

I am on the Ks side. Dr. Malley is my dr. He is in Shawnee - just moved to a new office. I was banded on 2/2/06 and am waiting for my 1st fill. Right now I can eat anything and am not losing. Hopefully he will do enough of a fill in a VG band that I will get a restriction. People around me say just to wait and it will work. I hope so.

I have a question an the amount of food per meal. My dr. didnot give me an amount to aim for per meal - just the general when you are full, stop. I have a VG band and just started on semi - soft to solid food. It seems like I am overeating, even though I do not fill full. Any suggestions? :help: Msks 2/2/06 -10:p

Sounds like I just need to be careful and watch what I am eating until the first fill. It is scheduled on 3/13. Guess I will just wait and see.

I have an appointment tomorrow (12/6) for my pre-op with Dr. Lopez. I have been waiting for 6 months to get the approval from my insurance. It was good to read positive things about Dr. Lopez. I had started with Dr. Malley and am now with Dr. Lopez. I have not met him and was wondering what you or anyone can tell me about him. msks

Hi Dede, I was glad to see someone from the KC metro area!!!!! Who is your Dr.? What kind of insurance? I just got the paperwork filled out and had my first appt. on 4/9. Now it is the waiting game on the insurance. I have Cigna HMO and Humana. From what I have read - Cigna is not paying but Humana is much better. Time will tell. Marilyn aka msks:cool:

I have been in therapy for several years, from hitting rock bottom to my highest of getting married. When I talked to my therapist about the band, he was very supportive. He wants to focus on how I see my self ( self-image) as well as the ups and downs of losing weight. This is not my first therapist (He is a licensed clinical social worker) sometimes you have to "shop around" to find one you are confortable with. One way to make time to see someone is to use your lunch hour or find one that has evening hours and leave the kids with your husband. Depression is a serious issue and can be treated with medicine. I have tried several drugs and combinations until my dr. and I found one that works. As for your mom's birthday present - TALK to HER. Sometimes you have to tell the one's closest to you that you love them, but they are causing you problems - don't be afraid to tell them Thanks - BUT NO THANKS. Good luck . Marilyn Nightingale 2u - Congrats for getting off the Zoloft and doing well. You are so lucky!!!!!

I just wanted to thank everyone for their input. The first appointment with my dr. went well and now the waiting game for approval for my insurance has started. The suggested questions were VERY helpful. Thanks, msks

I am a new member and not sure what I am doing. I am meeting with my doctor on 4-9. Any suggestions for what questions I need to ask him? I am just starting the process of getting approved for the band.

Thanks for the input. I am not willing to change doctors at this time because he is local and my ob-gyn recommended him. What is the minimum amount of lapband surgeries should he have done to be confortable in doing the operation and follow-up? I have read any where from 30 to 50. I know that he has do approximately 10 to 12. My other question is - Do all doctors require the full gamate of testing? I just went through back surgery in Feb. and really don't want to go through everything again. Again, thanks for everyone's input. This has helped me understand more about the band. MSKS
