Has anyone gone to Dr Thomas Brown in Denver? I'm scheduled to get my lap band April 12 and just wanted to get some up to date testimonials. Thanks!

Having surgery in Denver
JeninCO replied to Shinyhappymommy's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I am not impressed with Dr. Brown's practice at all. He's fine, and the surgery was a success, and that's the most important thing, but there was no followup call to see how I was doing, and you don't see him at all after the surgery for the one or two followup visits. His office support staff are cold, unfriendly and disorganized. Don't leave a message, it won't get returned, and if you want a fill, be prepared to wait more than a month. I was a self-pay who shelled out $15,000 and I believe I was overcharged and underserviced. The bottom line is: It's surgery -- even if is elective, and you should get receive care than this. I don't recommend Dr. Brown in Denver. -
Dr Tom Brown, Denver - $9,900, and very experienced
JeninCO replied to sadie11's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I found Dr Brown to be nice enough and have had no problems with my surgery (knock wood), but the aftercare was not even an afterTHOUGHT. No calls to check in, and the staffers that answer the phone are cold and quick to get off the phone and the office is impersonal and is runs like a factory assembly-line. There is over a month's waiting list to get a fill and as I have a pretty tight schedule, I just don't get it done. If I had to do it over, I would not go to Dr. Brown. I had my surgery three years ago and still no one can remember who I am or really seems to care. I paid over $15,000 out of pocket for this? Not impressed. -

Which one is better? Or which one do you use more? (Sorry, I meant to generate a poll with my last post)

Did your surgeon call to check up after your surgery?
JeninCO posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My surgeon didn't even come in to see me in recovery! The hospital called, they were incredible, but even when I called to schedule my two week post op appointment the receptionist knew I'd just had the surgery and didn't even take the time to ask how I was doing. I was just wondering if I'm being a big baby and expecting too much. :violin: -
I'm glad there are a lot of great surgeons out there!

What do you love about your band surgeon and their practice? The surgery worked. I'm really happy! What do you hate? No followup. None. Very little communication. Poor fills. What do we do well? The surgery. What could we do better? Act like you care. (I'm NOT saying all doctors are like this, but mine is. Very disappointing.) What more could we do to help you succeed? Act like you care. (see above) How could we improve your customer experience with our practices? Followup call right after the surgery. Minimum. Followup calls from time to time or a note. A little goes a very long way!

does anyone know the origin of the term "The Trots"?

Bush Vetoes Stem Cell Bill - Thanks Goodness We Are Saving Those Discarded Embryos

Ooh Carlene, taking the easy way out! All this talk of barbecue sauce is making me hungry! -
We are being squeezed from all sides. Our taxes pay for schooling, health care costs for illegal immigrants while our own wages, health benefits, and on-the-job safety cut because millions of illegal immigrants compete by working for less, asking for less, and shutting their mouth about workplace safety violations. Why else was the El Paso Independent School District forced to hold a $290 million bond election? To deal with the influx of illegal aliens. Why are so many trauma centers and hospital emergency rooms across the country closing, shifting the burden to public hospitals? Because illegal aliens make up a great number of those living in America without health insurance. Bring in 12 million people into the Social Security system, and we'll see the already frayed Social Security and Medicare systems ripped to tatters, as their paltry billions in contributions through illegally obtained Social Security Numbers - numbers with which they also fraudulently apply for and skip out on credit with, ruining the finances of their legal citizen victims - will not make up for the trillions they will take out of the system. It is a myth that Mexican labors only perform jobs that Americans won't do. They have taken skilled jobs from American construction worker, electricians, and painters, not to mention that have mention the fast-food jobs that used to be the mainstay for are young workers. I do not blame them -- I would do the same in their position. I blame the policies of the US that allow South American nations to be run by corrupt oligarchies who, despite abundant natural resources, starve their own people and drive them from their homes in order to survive. If the US does not find away to force these nations to provide for the general welfare of their citizenry, we will collapse under the weight of their people's desperation and become another third world nation, teaming with uneducated masses ruled by a wealthy minority.

I've only been in Denver a year and my only real friend here died Thursday. It was sudden: She had a stroke and within an hour she was brain dead. She was only 54 and had three kids and I'm devastated. Happy for her, she's gone on to better things, but sad that I've been left behind and feeling selfish because I miss her so much. I can't stop eating, which is exacerbated by the pain of getting full. I haven't had my first fill yet and I'm trying so hard to not think of food and of her and it's hard. I just want to stuff myself so I don't feel so terrible. I thought life after the band would be easier but it's still life. Silly me. Anyway, sorry for the rant. I'm just so sad and kind of lost.

Poll - Democrat or Republican?
JeninCO replied to KariK's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Proud of it? Really? When the current administration and most of the so-called "Republicans" are anything but? The true Republican principles died out a long time ago with our current batch of politicians. Our leaders have lost their way. I can't say I'm proud. I'm so far from proud I'm not even in the same zip code. Why are you? -
I'm a volunteer victim advocate and need to get to unknown places fast. Which online map service is better? (See poll above)

Porkchop, and her ilk, make me vomit. How much more intolerant, self deluded, ignorant and hateful could she be?

I'm so glad he's getting out. I wonder if he knows how many people support him?

Me too! There are so many things to get upset over! eHarmony sucks, but it's always sucked, and there are so many great gay dating sites out there that it shouldn't be an issue. I think they just want to stick it to 'em.

Thanks, Kat! I would love the name of that group, and I will also look for one here in Denver. Great idea. Thanks again!

who supports right to choose
JeninCO replied to 396power's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
When I was a practicing Mormon, I was constantly harrassed by born-agains for not being "Christian". Um, it's right there in the title. That's pretty Christian if you ask me. I'm sure Christ would be ashamed to be associated with many of the things that people do and did in his name. -
Who's the intolerant bigot here? 'Tis you, Porkchop. It's obvious you hate "the gays" and the ACLU (who defend The Constitution, by the way) and so I laugh when you call yourself a "freedom loving Constitutionalist". What rubbish. How dare you mis-paraphrase MLK when it's obvious you don't know a thing about him -- just quit while you're behind. How is it bigoted to expect to be treated equally and fairly? You're just silly.

My mom had a mild stroke in October and now only has minor aphasia, so I know a little about strokes. My friend had a brain stem hemorrhage. Thanks so much, you guys. Just knowing people care makes me feel less alone!

Execution takes 2 hours, 10 tries, condemned man given bathroom break in the middle
JeninCO replied to marjon9's topic in Rants & Raves
I think the death penalty should be abolished simply because it's too easy a way out. Why should the offender get to die when he should live with the consequences of his actions? -
It isn't religion, it's male rage and the need to control women. In India, a woman was sentenced by her village elders to be gang raped because her brother acted inappropriately with a woman from another village. In Juarez, Mexico, over 400 women have been brutally raped and murdered in the last decade and the police have done nothing about it. Here in the states, a woman is sexually assaulted every 3 minutes, and rape is still underreported and underprosecuted. Violence against women must be condemned worldwide or this just continues. It's all very depressing and terrifying.
