  1. Good Luck to those that are being banded today. I had mine done today and I'm doing ok. Bit sore and tired but other wise doing pretty good. Pretty happy with the ways things went and are going. If I had to tell you 3 things... Try and get out of bed as soon as you can even if you don't feel like it and walk around the ward a few times. I was told to and I thinks it definitely makes a difference. Heat pack... So good. Definitely makes me feel better and take a pillow in the car for comfort on the way home. Good luck ladies.. Thinking of you all. X
  2. Just had my appt to see the surgeon to discuss the Lap Band and have walked out with a date! Can't believe how quick it's all moving. Would love to hear from people who are going in around the same time too.

    any Aussies out there?

Hey Guys, Well I'm a band girl now... Just thought I would touch base and let you know how I got on.. I'm actually feeling pretty good at the minute. I am a bit sore and tired but otherwise doing ok. The heat pack on my shoulder is working a treat. I haven't really struggled at all yet. I got up an hour after the op and walked around the ward a few times.. I think that helped a lot. Mind you i wasnt feeling that great. But i heard its best to do it so i just did it. I'm thinking I will be a little more sore 2morrow. Overall I'm pretty happy with how things have gone and how they are going. Still got a long road ahead.. But looking forward to it. Xx
  4. Awwww! Band day... Looking forward to my new journey. Leaving for hospital in half an hour. Yikes!! It's really happening. Thank-you to all you band people for all the info over the past few weeks, i've been reading anything and everything. I think I'm pretty prepared, well as much as I can be... Wish me luck. ; )
  5. Good Luck!! Any advice I can give you is to try and get up as quick as you can and walk around the ward a few times.. You may not feel totally up to it.. But I think it helped me a lot. You will do great. X
  6. Thanks Ladies!! I'm home and feeling not too bad and think it all went well. Just a little pain when i breathe. I think I came out if it pretty good. I was up reasonably quick!! any Aussies out there?

Thanks Kate!! I too hope that it's a speedy recovery.. Definitely a busy time of the year to have it done. Yes, I've had 2 c-sections and my gallbladder removed. I actually breezed through my gallbladder.. There was still a little pain but I was ok. When I had my gallbladder out it's also key hole surgery and one of the cuts is in your belly button and I found that's what hurt the most. I had staples in there and every time I bent it hurt.. But soon as the staples came out I was good to go. So fingers crossed I do ok with this. I'm not too fussed with the surgery.. I think if anything it's just all the learning afterwards.. Just having done everything one way all my life and having to change it. Oh your absolutely spot on with people's opinions. Lol. It's good on here because you can ask what you want to know as people have actually been there. ( not telling you only their opinion ) I guess you just have to take in that everyone handles things differently too. But you get the gist of things. Haha yes! Baby brain. Lol. My little man is the 19th of May. I hope your chat goes well with your friend 2morrow. Maybe just keep in mind that she had it done 6 years ago.. Things may have changed slightly. Then again may not have. Definitely fire all your questions at her. I'm sure she won't mind. I'm happy to answer any op/post op questions after.. That's all I will be up to by the time you go in. But Sussie will be much further then to answer all and more too. : ) Seriously just read lots on the forum I did b4 I even made my decision so maybe that's why I'm pretty relaxed. Also go into people's blogs and photo's. I love looking at people's photo journeys and you can also look on you tube! Just trying to decide what my last meal will be.. Lol. When i say last meal i mean last meal as eating the old way! ; ) I am a lucky one that didn't have to do any Pre diet. Thanks for you best wishes!! I'm only day surgery ( my choice! ) so I should be able to jump online to say how it all went. X

    any Aussies out there?

It's Lauren : ) I am ready!. I just want my journey to start.. I wanted to be skinny and healthy years ago... Lol impatient much? Lol. I know it will be challenging over the Christmas period.. but I feel like their will never be the best time to have it done.. So no time like the present. I know of a couple of people that had it done and hands down they said they would do it again in a heart beat. With reading Professor O'Briens book and i watched his seminar and the 8 golden rules, googled lots and have read lots of stories on here I feel pretty comfortable with it all. I love to read other people journeys and how much they have lost plus seeing b4 and after photos . It's pretty inspiring. In saying that I did also make sure that I read people's journeys that haven't gone so well. I don't want to go in with rose colour glasses. Funny you say your son is now 19 months... I always have to think about it. I think I was telling everyone my son was 16 months for like 3 months. Lol it wasn't until I counted the months I'm like um now hang on he is.... Lol. Actually now I think about it, my little man is 19 months I think I first said 20 months to you.. Lol. I think we are as bad as each other. My little man was born in May. Lol I've actually also decided not to tell many people. I've told my younger sister and a couple of friends. My older sister talked me out of doing this 12 months ago as she thought is was a drastic move. I do wish that I hadn't listened to her as I would be well on my journey. Also not telling my mum. But she is coming to Melb to stay on Wednesday for nights for my daughters dance concert so I'm guessing she will find out then. Lol I will only be day 3 so I don't think I can hide it. I don't want to have to explain myself to people as to why I'm having it. Try not to over think the process! Just try and read lots of people's stories and make sure you understand how is works.. Very happy to chat to you after I have mine done.. And let you know exactly what happens. The more you check out this forum the more you will feel comfortable as everyone or everyone I have come across are very supportive I don't think there is a question that you can't ask.. Enjoy your night. : )

    any Aussies out there?

Hi SK8, No, I was about 5 weeks ago on a tues though.. Lol. With Professor O'Brien. My surgery date is on Monday.. Aww! Lol Actually I'm doing pretty well with my decision. I know its going to be a huge lifestyle change. I just was the end result so much that I don't really have second thoughts. This is for my kids as much as it is for me.. Good on you for making that step. Funny enough I was meant to be in late January and I asked if by chance I could get in earlier to get it out the way and lucky for me I could.. and as my partner is on holidays and I will have help. Also 32 here and I have a 4 year old daughter and a 20month old son. And eastern suburbs here. Hopefully after Monday I can be more helpful to you.. Definitely happy to keep in touch..

    Any advice?

Hi, I'm being banded in 3 days!! I was thinking about having lapband surgery 12 months ago and a family member talked me out of it. Telling me it was a little to drastic. To this day I wish I had of went ahead with it as I would be well on my journey. Before I decided i would go ahead with it I did a lot of research. Have read a lot of people's stories good and bad.. My surgeon also goes through the 8 golden rules.. You can google it. And also have read his book. It's good to do your research so you know what will be going on with your own body. http://bodywellfitness.com/2012/03/25/de-mystifying-dr-obriens-the-8-golden-rules/ It took me 8 weeks from the day I called to make an appointment. 5 weeks to wait for the appointment and 3 weeks b4 going in.. I am in Australia though. I've decided not to tell most of my family as this is something I'm doing for me. Good Luck with your decision.

Lol. Inhaling is good.. Just make sure you don't over do it with the hard work.. I'm sorry that you have epilepsy! But hey! Don't rule out having a family if that's truly what you want or dreamed of... I've just done a little reading!! It's still definitely possible.. Or there are some beautiful kids out there in need of a loving family home needing a mum and dad to love them.. Just something to think about over the years if it's something that you can do and want. Just putting it out there!! Or.. Lol my steph dad inherited 3 gorgeous kids finding my mum... Lol me being one of them. He did then go on to have 2 more with my mum! Yep we have one big family. 5 kids. If you do chose a dog.. My daughter and I have our eye on a mini maltese **** zu puppy. " soo cute! "

    any Aussies out there?

Oh wow. Even though your not hungry do you feel like you want to eat? Have you eaten yet? Lol You will be a skinny mini in know time. ; ) Gosh in not looking forward to the chucking part. Hopefully it doesn't happen too often. The study is all about you and how you feel along the way during your journey. B4, after. I think you do quick survey once a month for a bit then I think it gets less frequent. I think it might be professor o'brien only. I totally agree with you! Hopefully I can change they way I look a feel b4 I'm 33. I'm not looking to be at my goal then just be feeling better and looking better within myself. For Christmas I'm not too sure yet.. I will get an info pack once I have the band as to what and when I can eat.. But I'm thinking not much I will only be like day 8.. I still might be on Soup or baby food. Lol. Off to my sister so luckily I don't have to do much just help her out. We do have to travel 4 hours though. Hopefully by day 7 the car ride will be fine. Haha no! Wouldn't be too fun throwing up in front of the grant parents. Are all your family supportive? Do weight problems run in your family? I haven't actually told my family. I tried to do this 12 months ago and my sister talked me out of it.. So I've decided not to say anything until after I've done it. I do come from a family who are all over weight. I'm hoping that if this works for hopefully I can inspire them. Oh your way too hard on your self.... I'm sure your customers aren't thinking that at all.. I'm sure if they said anything it would be something like " oh she is a big girl and not think anything more" I know if I saw some that's bigger than me that's what I would think and I'm sure your the same.. You don't go into it any further. You just fob it off. Most of the time I don't even think anything like that unless the person said or did something to stand out. You just don't really think about it. I know people that are bigger than me and I've never really thought much of their weight but sometime think of my friends that are smaller than me what are they thinking? Lol. That's a good way to take your tablets... Maybe hopefully your new lifestyle will eliminate some of those tablets for you. I have a link for you to check out.. It's such a good story! I know you don't have kids but all the same it's a great story! http://www.ivillage.com.au/the-mum-stays-in-the-picture/154242 I've had a few surgery's 2 c-sections and my gall bladder out. So I'm hoping the recovery is about the same.. I did pretty well with all I've them. Having 2 small children will definitely be a challenge this time round though. Luckily my other half has time off work. Good luck on Saturday with your work! Take it easy! Just remember you have not long had surgery. I guess I really only have 3 full days left now! Wow! Lol. We actually went to Donovan's in st.kilda for lunch today.. It was just lovely. Thought I would try and get one of my favorite places in b4 hand. Hopefully the next 3 days go quick as I just want it over and done with so I don't have to think about it happening and I can just get on with my journey.

    any Aussies out there?

Wow!! Lot's of detail. Thanks!! Definitely great information. Thanks. I'm sorry to hear about how your first band went! Glad you've been able to start again.. My appt went well with professor O'Brien. I felt very comfortable. I also love the sound of the after care. " partner ship " that they proud them selves on and that the will be there all the time for you. I did have the option to stay overnight and if things don't go well I will stay over night. I chose not to in the time being as I have 2 kids.. A 4 year old and a 20 month old and I don't really want to spend a night away from the little one as he wakes through the night and wants me. I have had 2 c-sections I'm thinking they would have been a little more challenging and I did pretty well afterwards so I feel as though I can do the day and come home to bed. With a some pain relief. Not sure how old you are you put 2 ages! Lol. I'm 32. I'm 5 foot 7 and about 112kgs. I would like to be about 70. I think if I were any smaller I would look funny! I would just love to lose enough that I feel comfortable in myself. 70 would be a dream. Hopefully I will make it. Yes definitely a long road ahead and a big lifestyle change. Oh you never know! Sometimes when you have less to lose its harder. That can be " our " challenge?! You have a couple of weeks on me... You will have to fill your details out on the profile on here so that you can track your weight loss. It's a great idea. I love reading people's that are I front of me. I haven't had to do any pre op diet. So I've been pretty lucky. Apparently he felt my liver and he said it feels good. Christmas I feel maybe a little challenge for me as I will be only day 8 but I chose this appt. I was going to be booked in for next month and I wanted to get it out of the way! I was cheeky and asked if he had an earlier appt. I'm ready. Lol Are you at the Glen Iris Practice? Oh are you doing the survey research? I said Yes. I'm not sure it may only be a professor O'Brien thing. What part of Melb are you? We are in the eastern suburbs. Keep cool today! : ) and thanks for all the info.
