The surgery was not bad at all! Because I had some issues with my IV, I wasn't able to receive pain or anti nausea medications for 30 minutes after surgery, and that was the worse part for me. I had no problem with getting my liquids down, or moving around. The majority of the pain I experienced came from the carbon dioxide they put into my abdominal cavity for the procedure. It took about 5 days for that to completely dissipate, and it was just so uncomfortable (not round the clock, but in certain positions.) I was banded on November 8th, and was feeling back to normal on day 8 post op. Adjusting to the foods that are permitted at each stage hasn't been too difficult. There is a brief moment each day when I just wish I could indulge in whatever I want, but those moments are fleeting, and I remember why I made the decision to have the surgery. I have lost 18lbs and have many more to go, but with each pound lost, is a lot more gained! I feel better and better each day - sleeping better, breathing better, more comfortable head to toe, and excited for the future. The best advice I can give at this point is follow the doctor's orders at all times. From water intake, to vitamins, and especially advancing to different food stages as directed. You will be fine, and so happy to take this journey once it begins for you. It is like being on a permanent diet, but making the right choices is so much easier with a tool such as the band. Good luck to you!

I was banded yesterday, and I thought the gas pain was the worst part (once I got past the nausea). It has gotten so much better with each passing hour, but the most comfortable position for me is laying on my back at maybe a 30 degree angle. The gas seems to level out across my body, and it's a comfortable breathing angle to sleep. Sipping on water, broth and protein all day today has been much easier than yesterday. My goal is about 4 ounces per hour, and I am not having too much trouble. I was hungry yesterday, but not today. I need to make a conscious effort to keep up the fluid intake because I don't feel my body asking for it. Good luck to you, KellyJo88! I hope your post op appointment goes well.

I Don't Want To Tell Anyone I'm Considering Lapband
SactoMaddy replied to momof02's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
When I first considered the procedure, I had it in my head that I wasn't going to tell anyone other than my immediate family, for fear of being judged. As I started telling more and more people, I was suprised how supportive people were. Just own your decision to have surgery...no one has the right to make you feel badly about something you know is the best choice for your health. Best of luck to you! -

The November 'band'wagon!
SactoMaddy replied to LadyLeigh2012's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am getting my band on November 8th, and what an emotional roller coaster I have been on for the last couple of weeks! I just want to get this done already. As sure as I am that this is the right decision for me, it has not been an easy one to make. I am so excited for all the changes to come, but I am so scared of giving up my security blanket (food). Just sitting here writing this has brought up feelings of excitement, fear, sadness, nervousness...these feelings are wearing me out. Thursday cannot some soon enough!!!
