I got mine from the hospital a few hours after my surgery. I couldn't walk with out holding my belly so they gave it to me and it's the greatest thing ever!!!

Constantly feeling cold
vcor91983 replied to Beana21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I spoke with the nurse at my bariatric surgeons office and she said it's completely normal and I would most likely feel cold all the time, which is a plus in the summer -
Mylecon drops that are used for babies works wonders!! I had my surgery on 4/30 and I'm still getting intense gas pains. When I take the Mylecon it goes away for a few hours

first doctors appointment
vcor91983 replied to vcor91983's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I already did the information session as a requirement before I could even see the doctor. I will be going to a support group at the end of the month. I have plenty of time to make up my mind on which one I want to get. -

first doctors appointment

I called another dr's office and spoke with the nurse there and she even said that bypass is more reliable than the band. She said from her experience working in that office she has seen countless patients come in and get the band, just to have it removed from complications (port infections, rejection) and most of them get the bypass. I'll save myself the hassle and just get the bypass lol. -

I had my first appointment yesterday with my surgeon and needless to say I left there confused and full of questions. He was almost 2 hours late and didn't even take 5 minutes to review my chart, which I wouldn't have minded seeing as I was sitting there for that long anyway. He then goes on to tell me that the Lap Band is not reliable, you don't lose as much weight as bypass, and they are being phased out. Has anyone else heard this information?? I'm so confused on what I want to do. On the one hand it would be great to not have to get poked with a needed every time I start getting "more hungry", but on the other hand there's more complications involved with the bypss (right?).

Dont Want To Lose Those!!!!!
vcor91983 replied to Jlynn217's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No matter how many diets I've been on and how much weight I've lost (or gained) my boobs have always stayed the same. The ONLY time they get bigger is when I get pregnant. I'm so lucky that I nursed for 18 months and they didn't shrink -

I had to do one a few years ago and I failed because I only slept for 20 minuts in the 6 hours I was there. My surgeon wants me to get another one done. I hope my insurance will pay for the home study because I can't sleep in strange places

Your Last Supper......
vcor91983 replied to FLORIDAYS's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love bread and pasta so I will probably have something along those lines. Or maybe steak and pasta. OR Sushi! I'm not sure, but then again, I still have 5 more months to figure this out -
this is going to be a problem lol. I tend to carry every book I have all at once, even if it's not needed for a couple of days.

I hate online classes but I think I might just do it for that one semester just to be sure I am ready to drive and sit in class for 3 hours 3-4 days a week. Thank you all for your advice

Hello everyone, I am 29 years old and currently 5'4" and 222lbs. I am going to the information session required before I can have my first consult with my doctor, on Tuesday. I am currently just under 40bmi but do have health problems such as asthma, gerd/hiatial hernia, hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol) and sleep apnea. My question is how much down time is required after surgery? Like, when would I be able to return to work/school? I am a college student and only get 2 weeks between semester and really don't want to have to take a semester off because my school has a penalty for that (and I really can't afford it). Thanks
