    The Boomer Chat Room

Hi Group, it has been quite a while since I have posted. Just thought I would check the group out again. I have been a slow loser; but nevertheless, still losing about a lb a week. I still have a long way to go though. I just spoke to Kate and she is home from rehab and beginning to improve. It was good to hear from her. Hopefully she will be back here soon. Good luck to the new people who have just had surgery and will be having surgery soon. I am almost 8 months out now.

    Anyone Home?

Hi Jeanie, congratulations on being successful with your sleeve. I have not had any problems either since surgery, so I really feel blessed. I still have to take my Prilosec everyday, but other than that, I can eat anything with no problems either. I am now 6 months out and still can't eat more than 2 oz of solid meat at a time though. I tend to eat other proteins more too. I hope I can continue to lose and reach my goal. It has been slow going for me.

    Welcome

Hi Michelle, I can really relate to your concerns. I have been disabled for several years now and was not sure how my life would change with surgery, but knew that I needed it to. I was isolated, with no friends or social life. I was consumed with my food addiction. I was sleeved 3/25/13 and have lost 49 lbs so far. I have a long way to go, but I can tell I am beginning to feel better. I am no longer consumed with what I will be eating. My tastes have changed and I am really hopeful that my life will begin to change as the weight comes off and I can move a little better. Don't be afraid.

    Important Milestones

My surgery date was 3/25/13. I have now lost 38 lbs. I thought I would be losing more since I weighed so much, but I think the inactivity and age have hindered me a little. I started water therapy, and no it it not really like water aerobics. There is a physical therapist who guides the exercised that you do. It feels so good to be in water. One thing that I am hoping for after I lose more weight is to be able to get in a bath tub and get in and out. I have so many physical problems, so I need to take baby steps toward activity. It had gotten to where all I could do is sit in a chair all day. I decided I did not want to live "the chair" life anymore. I have not gotten out in several years to have a social life, so I have no friends anymore. I am not a person to just get out there and make friends easily, so it is so nice to have you all here to talk to. The day of surgery was a little rough with gas pains and high blood pressure, but by the 2nd day I was very much better. I am glad I had this done and think it will save my life. My doctors have told me I only had a limited amount of time left if I did not lose weight.

    Important Milestones

Congratulations on the 35 lbs lost. I know you have really had a lot of hoops to jump through. I too, had to do the nuclear stress test before my surgery. I had a heart attack about 6 years ago, so I was nervous about it too. Praise the lord that everything turned out ok for me. I am now 8 wks post op and have lost 35 lbs. I have been slow so far to lose, but that is because I have not been able to be active. My doc just prescribed water therapy that I am starting today. Hope that will jump start the weight loss more.

    OUR STORIES

I was sleeved on 3/25/13. I lost 11 lbs. pre-op and have lost 22 lbs post op. I have been stalled now for 3 weeks and I have been getting really depressed about it. People say, just wait, it will happen. I am not sure and feel like maybe this has been a failure for me. I am in a wheelchair and can not really exercise. The doctor signed me up for water therapy, but I am now waiting for the therapist and the pool in my small town to work out some legal arrangement. I have an appointment with my doctor the Wednesday and I know he is not going to be happy. I really don't know what to think. Are there gastric sleeve failures where people just don't lose?

    Welcome

Elmay, good luck on your surgery tomorrow. I will be saying a prayer for your safe recovery and success with the sleeve. Let us know how you are doing when you can.
  11. Hi Bamafarmchick. Who is your doctor in Birmingham. I was sleeved 3/25/13 by Dr. Andrew DeWitt.

    Welcome

Hi! It has now been a month since I was sleeved. I have lost 11 lbs. pre-op and 19 lbs. post op. I seem to be stalled right now, and I am trying to eat all the right things, get my Fluid in, and my Protein it. Thoughts are running through my mind that this is all I will lose. I am not active because of health problems but I am set up next week for Water therapy. I am hoping it will help to get me losing again. If I don't lose anymore, I want my stomach back. I think being older is affecting it oo.

    Carbs

My doc wants me to eat 50 or less.
  14. Kari, I get hungry too and I thought this would help. I was sleeved on March 25th. My taste has changed though. I can not stand anything sweet.

    Any March Sleevers?

That does seem a long time for liquids. Is that standard with him or did he give you a reason?

    Disappointed :(

Hopefully your doc will have a plan that will be helpful. I am so sorry for now, but don't lose faith.

Your change is very inspiring to me. You look great. I am in my 50's but have physical limitations for exercising, so I know my weight will come off slower. I was just sleeved on March 25, 2013.
  18. I am from Northwest Alabama and was sleeved 3/25/13. So far, so good. I am thrilled about starting my new life.

    Any March Sleevers?

I was sleeved on the 25th. I had horrible gas pains right after surgery. I could not lie down or it hurt more. I just tried to sit on the edge of the bed. It subsided somewhat, and I tried to sleep, but the nurses and docs kept coming to my room all night long. It turns out that my blood pressure has skyrocketed to 200/102. When they kept coming to check on me and give me more medication, I got a little nervous too. My blood pressure had never been high before. They told me it was because my pain was not controlled. I felt a little better the next day and my blood pressure was down. I did stay 2 nights though. I have been home since yesterday and am able to drink easily. I can feel all of my food and drinks going all the way down. I have had soup which was yummy, yogurt, jello, protein shakes, water and Crystal Light. I think I will try some runny oatmeal tomorrow. All in all, I am feeling great. My tummy is sore, but I can move around easily. My prayers are with all of those being sleeved this month.

I am so sorry that you could not be sleeved as planned. Sometimes God has a different timetable that ours. Just stay focused on the goal.

    Disappointed :(

I am so sorry to hear this. Did the doc put you on a pre-op diet and were you able to stay on it? I see so many different diets here that the docs require, and I am just curious what you were on.

    Any March Sleevers?

Good luck to you! I am getting sleeved in the morning. This pre-op diet is the worst part. I am starving. Looking forward to being on the other side tomorrow.

    Welcome

Hi new friends! I am being sleeved on Monday 3/25/13. I am trying to save my life. I weigh 347 and I really appreciate this group. SassySenior, I too have physical problems with my knees, back and hip. I am in a wheelchair and taking pain medication along with many others. I really hope those of you who are in the process of jumping though the hoops will be able to have your surgery soon. Best of luck to you all. I can really use some encouragement.
