My highest weight was 333.3lb in October, 2005. Over the course of several years, I did much work to become emotionally healthy and happy, and as a result the weight started to decrease ever so slowly. In 2008, I got serious about my health and lost from 318 to about 265. For the last 2 years, my weight has gone up and down about 10lbs in spite of my efforts to lose weight through various methods.
My husband and I adopted a baby in 2010. This was so life changing for me! I never knew this kind of love...the love I have for my son. I decided that I did not want to pass my poor eating habits on to my son. I want to set a good example for him in terms of his health. I knew that with good diet and exercise, I could lose weight, but that the loss would be very slow. I did not want to take another 5 years to lose 50 more lbs.
After much research and contemplation, I decided that the LapBand was the best option for me. When I started the 3-week liquid pre-op diet, I weighed 270. Day of surgery I weighed 258. At my 2 week check-up, I weighed 248.
I am now about 4 weeks post op. Although I am only down about 2 more lbs, I am not discouraged. My doctor told me that this time is for healing and that the weight loss will come. I am using My Fitness Pal to track my food, focusing on getting the protein in that my surgeon recommends (60 to 80 grams per day), controlling my portions, and learning the difference in "head hunger" and true hunger. I am scheduled to get my first fill next week.
I already FEEL so much better. I've had no complications from my surgery whatsoever thus far.
My ultimate goal weight is 175, but my first milestone goal will be 233 (a hundred lb loss from my highest weight)! I want to learn to be a runner. I look forward to buying clothes off the clearance racks (most plus size clothes are totally picked over by the time they reach the clearance rack). Most of all, I'm looking forward to living a long, healthy life (as much as in my control)!
Thank you for reading my story! I will update it as I progress on my journey!
