hardest bandster rule to follow for me..
hely88 replied to gldngrrl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
When I eat out I Definately do not get water with my meal or have it taken away once I get my food.then I must admit I am usually a big gum chewer for the next hour! -
I try to eat high protein like tilapia, chicken, eggs, all cooked with veggies. I make big pot go chilli with lots of beans and ground turkey. I cook most of my own food carefull with sodium and not much processed foods. I buy fresh chicken and freeze what I don't use right away. I freeze fish until I'm ready and I measure by volume 4oz for every meal. I also don't believe there is a breakfast food. You can eat what you want any time. Also don't forget to track.

hardest bandster rule to follow for me..

Before I am not to sure because I was told it is ok to drink before but I don't drink while I eat or for an hour after. I think it is because the water can make the food move faster and leave you hungry. I also don't drink while eating because I get like a stuck feeling that screws up my meal. -

hely88 replied to Rach2605's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also tracked my food for about a month and then took it to a nutritionist who works with my doctor. I have made a lot of changes but the main ones are I cook most of my meals now and have actively been lowering my sodium which means much less processed foods. I really feel more satisfied for longer periods eating this way. I also really enjoy eating more then ever. -

I was banded 4 yrs ago and same thing.i was thinking about giving it another try for long time. I saw. Picture of myself and that as the push I needed. I went to doctor and they checked my band and even gave me a small fill. The nurse went over the guidelines with me and gave me a book. I have been very obsessed with being good. I measure and track absolutely evertying. Spent a lot of time here and in the chat room and have done vy well. I also only weigh once a week.i ave lost 32.2 lbs since the end of October. You hear a lot of talk on here about want power. It's true. You have to be ready and really really want it. You can do it! Remember it is a lifestyle change not a diet. -
I don't think it's a calorie issue with what type of yogurt you choose. Greek yogurt has a lot more protein . Sometimes you just have to try some different things. I recently tried dannon fit Greek and it is now my favorite. I think it is around 5 oz 80 calories and 12 protein. I rarely eat yogurt because I try to stick to solids but it's good for me to keep around.

Pass the Small Fork...
hely88 replied to Destined*Lady*D's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use a half cup bowl and a baby spoon. It is much easier to judge the sizes for me , but its just easy and better for me to know exactly what I have. May change in the future but this is what is comfortable for me. I also take them when I go to other people's houses to eat. I don't worry about what anyone thinks. This is my time and I am going all the way! By the way i got a 16 pack of plastic baby spoons off of Amazon for like 5 dollars. I think they are called throw away spoons. Something like that. Find what works for you. Happy Journey. -
Per my doctor I don't count calories but I measure everything. You might want to get the guidelines from your dr. I have been banded about 4 years and like you recently recommitted . I went back to doctor to have my band checked, they gave me a book with guidelines and I saw one of their nutritionist. I have lost 32.2 since he end of October. They also started me back with a small fill.

Only thing with me is I get light headed especially when standing up. Glad you are doing well!

I drink up to 3 decaf coffees a day. I measure in 2tbls of sf coffee mates for 30 calories each cup and I also track them.

Most places will let you order from kids menus. Places like Chinese make sure steamed items and avoid salty sauces. Also make sure no MSG.

Umm I don't really understand your response to my post. I am not ditching my band. I am actually doing really well but I have a hard time finding that perfect spot. It is really hard for people on disability and limited incomes to keep going back and forth. You pay for a fill and if it's too much you have to pay for an unfil. Sometimes it feels like a vicious circle. I don't expect everyone to understand how finincialy draining it can be. I was employed full time at a good job with good benefits when I had my surgery. Never expected life to be like this.

I like the new dannons lite and fit Greek yogurt.

Thanks for this thread.

My problem is I get a small fill end up to tight then get an unfill but still have more then before and hungry.. I don't think there is a green zone for me. I remember them telling me some people are just hungry, but that seems horrible. Also can't keep affording fills and unfills etc.

I was told xylitol is a great choice for sweeteners . It also helps prevent tooth decay and dry mouth.
-
Just know that not everyone needs fills. Sometimes it is just, making sure you are eating the right foods. My nutritionist said that when I track my food I should also track how long it keeps me satisfied . She says this will help tell if I need a fill. Also make sure you are getting fluids in. I know they help me stay satisfied and sometimes I drink when I am hungry and am no longer hungry.
-
Don't forget there is no rule that says you have to eat breakfast food. I like tuna, chicken BBQ or salad, egg salad, beans etc.
-
The most important calories when banded are solid proteins. Shakes are empty for me because the do not sustain me very long. I am hungry again in an hour or less.

I use spark people to and they have tons of recipes. Don't have. To be member to look at those.

I can't promise 100 percent but it is set up private. You could also make a second fb account under another name. That is why mine is Hely lb and not my real name. Then you could add any of your lap band friends with no worries.
-
I have a recipe group on fb if anyone wants to join. It is not a support group. Have tons of recipes. It's a place for people to share recipes and ideas. Everyone is banded. We have everything organized under file at top of page so it's easy to navigate. Also if you are looking for something specific I will be happy to help you. Everyone is welcome. I promise no drama just a place to share ideas. Friend me at Hely lb and please message me. After I add you I unsubscribe you from feeds.
