Does anyone else worry they will fail with the band?
Blondie638 replied to dolphintattoo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it's the majority of us pre banders think that. I mean we're all use to failing. And we're going into this without a guarantee that it will work. In my opinion... No weight loss surgery is going to work if we don't change our lifestyle. If we continue to put the same crap in our mouths we can't expect different results. Eventually the weight will come back. I think we just have to look at the lapband as a tool to help us stay on track. It's just a tool, (a very expensive one). Most weight gain or loss is a mental effort. If your addicted to food, as I am and I'm sure many others then that's an addiction that you have to break.... Mentally. I'm going with the lap band because I feel it's a tool that will help me stay on track. As many others too. I've lost the weight before and know what it takes. Deep down under all this fat there is a fit person that loves being at the gym.. And looks at food as energy. I think we all can change to that.. Sorry for the rant... This is just a question I've been battling personally as well -
I'm doing mine with true results.. In Austin. They are great! Total cost is 9900 but I got checked out for a hiatal hernia. Most people have them so they say. And since I have it insurance will pay for that repair which they will do while doing he lap band. This way insurance pays 4400 and ill only have to pay 5500. And they do offer financing! But it sounds like u won't need it!

I'm scheduled for jan 25th!!! thx for starting this thread!!!!! -
Just enjoyed a glass of wine (not yet banded) and thought... Can u still do that after the band? Also I have occasionally gone out with my friends to the bars and probably drank more then I should... Can I do that after the band?
-
Floridays,,, thanks for your response as Ive said to you before I often loo for your advice and input as one of an 'expert' becuase you are so far along in your journey. I am not much of a drinker, actually the last time I "drank to much" was over 2 years ago. Yes I do party, but it mainly consists of dancing, and talking with my friends.. no other activites much beyond that. Interesting to me that you dont like alcohol much anymore, I could absolutely live without it now, but I do enjoy it once in a while. I wonder if I will have the same feelings as you. Only time will tell!! Thanks for your advice!!

Does insurance pay for the skin removal? -
I have my egd tomorrow to find out if have the hiatal hernia. If I do I'll get the band jan 25th. If I don't who knows when or if ill get banded. Sooo nervous! Anyone else have the egd done for the hiatal hernia? My surgeons office said most people have it so I probably do. Is it true that most obese people have it?

Good luck to you and your journey!! Floridays a right... You did it once, you can do it again. Go get em!!
-
That's expensive.. But I think worth it. Think of what will come from the surgery! I feel you on the weight loss. I got down to 186 once then within he last six years gained nearly 130 lbs! Holy cow! I just keep thinking of who I want to be.. And how the band will help me get there. Just seems like such a long shot tho
-
I think it's totally normal.. I've been dead set on this surgery and today I got the go ahead and a surgery date of jan 25th. And now I'm second guessing everything. I just think this whole idea of putting a tube around your stomach to help you lose weight is insane! But the few people I've told are telling me just to do it.. So here goes nothing! Best of luck to you and your decisions! I think you should do it!! 6 years is a loooong time!

Mine was with true results here in Texas. I'm not sure what they do in Canada. You may want to call ur surgeons office and ask. But my total lap band cost is 9900 but insurance is covering 4400 because of the hernia so ill only have to pay 5500
-
I have a hernia so surgery is scheduled for january 25! I can't believe I'm going thru with this!!!! Crazy!
-
Thanks!!! When are u scheduled? Or have u already been banded?
-
I had no idea.. I literally just had the procedure an hour ago and I feel fine.
-
I don't think so but I don't really know. It's just because ill be a self pay patient if they find I have a hiatal hernia then I insurance will pay for half of my surgery. So I think it's just something my office is doing to try to get insurance to pay for some of the surgery.

Thanks for the tips! I'm sooo nervous I've never had to go "under" for anything!

One more thing: A doctor should never make you feel hopeless... They should make you feel hopeful
