post op... how long before resuming moderate exercise?
neveragain replied to kaytiebugs's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Keeping in mind that EVERYONE is different because we all have different surgeons, but as a general rule, I agree with Tulip on this one. -
My suggestion is to slow down, but you don't need to stop. The problem is that alcohol is high calorie. I RARELY ever drink anymore, but that's just me. Think of it this way, one or two glasses of beer or wine per day is actually good for your heart. :-)

Here, I'll make it simple for you. You will lose as much as you WANT and MAKE yourself lose. Period. End of story. No one says it is easy, but it can still get done. Yes, we have a little help, but it's 98% mental. It's not hard to get in the same amount of calories we used to if we want it bad enough.

1/2 a cup? I don't think so...

Never been to the support groups. You know, I really should have gone and I may go now, but I never had the drive to. I'm a really stubborn guy, what can I say? haha. I hope everything is going well for you! -
FREE!!! Any NYC bandsters want some Slimfast Optima?
neveragain replied to Fenton's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If they weren't so high carb (50g) and I lived closer, I'd take them off your hands! Good luck! -
Just take it slow and build up. If you rush things, you'll probably get injured, so take it easy, but increase everything 2-3 minutes every week or so. Give it a bit, then worry about weight training.

How long did you wait to drive after surgery?
neveragain replied to angelface's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What she said. :rolleyes2: -
Well, I honestly can't think of a better decision that I have made in my entire life. I don't miss eating my HUGE-ANTIC portions and gaining more and more weight. Being down at 211, there are some benefits from being 300 before. haha. Oh, and I know I'm a guy, so I'm going to try to make the benefits as uni-sex as possible. haha. More energy Ability to run WAY longer than before. Doesn't matter what you are, sex gets better. haha. My confidence level shot through the roof. I can shop at Abercrombie and whatever seemingly pretentious store I feel like. People don't think I'm a pig by looking at an empty plate or three. *UPDATE* Ignoring the fact that I have an awesome girlfriend, being glared at now and again by the opposite sex doesn't hurt. haha. I'll put more as I can think of it. :rolleyes2:

Drink some stuff to clean you out
neveragain replied to kristylyn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never had to take any laxative pre-op, thank god. I hate it so much. haha. I would rather just about anything else happen except for GI discomfort. -
As far as physical complications go, I couldn't see any and I haven't had any problems whatsoever with the occasional drink. I rarely ever drink, though. Keep in mind, though, that 1-2 glasses of red wine or beer is actually good for the heart. For what it's worth.

Honestly, a tylenol cold pill wouldn't hurt in small amounts. They are just concerned about thinning out your blood. Any NSAIDs can do it, i.e. Advil, Aleve, ibuprofen, naprosyn, among a few others. To be BRUTALLY honest, it probably wouldn't matter too much if you took a very small amount, but there are reasons why they advise against it. Simply, Tylenol Cold and Sinus probably wouldn't hurt, but if you do take it pre-op, I would cut it out 48 to 72ish hours beforehand. There are things in there that may or may not be good for surgery.

dietition says if I dont follow diet..........
neveragain replied to reenie11's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bingo. The size of the liver has a LOT to do with the surgeon's decision to continue with the surgery or not. -
This has got to get annoying, but I still think we should do a Tucson meetup. hahaha.

She speaks the truth...aaaaaaaaaaand begin.

I know for a fact that you do the 48 hour pre-op diet for an empty stomach before surgery. A lot of times, the anesthesia will give you diarrhea RIGHT after surgery if you had anything in the GI tract. As far as the 2-3 week pre-op diet, from what I know, it's for patients who have a really high BMI and subsequently have a large liver because of it. The less that the liver is used, the smaller it gets. The liver makes for a more difficult and complication ridden surgery. I could be wrong, but this is what I've heard from TONS of surgeons.

I love sushi, but sashimi (raw fish) is better. hahaha.

neveragain replied to readytoloselbs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used to have a bit of a high BP, but now that I'm down 80lbs, I'm hovering right around 120/80. Yay for the band. hahaha. -
Are We ready for a Black President?

I could not have agreed more. You're my hero now, by the way. haha. -
If we can't take NSAIDS, then what can we take?
neveragain replied to rakes4321's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The AMAZING amount of NSAIDs that you have to take to develop an ulcer in that short of a period of time is WAY more than a relatively non-invasive surgical recovery. Yes, everyone is different. Every person can develop it differently. Believe me, having my dad as a doctor, my mom as a head nurse, tons of friends who are nurses, and me being in pre-med for so long makes you learn a thing or two. Anyway, for something like that to develop, you would have to take upwards of 800mg t.i.d for AT LEAST 6 months on a fairly normal person. Keeping in mind that that is VERY optimistic time-wise. 2400mg/day is the MAXIMUM prescription dosage that you'll ever see and even though that's for SHORT duration uses only, they are more worried about eventual renal issues than GI, depending on the patient. The OTC max dosage is 1800mg/day, so they knock down what they feel is safe for the patient to take without any expected side effects. If you find someone who wants to take ibuprofen or naprosyn EVERY DAY and higher dosages just for the fun of it, I'm FULLY with you. It will EVENTUALLY start to take everything down, however, for a pretty short recovery or a sore knee once in a while, a little 'profen never hurt nobody. lol. I hope you don't think I was taking shots at you. I really respect your choice to be an RN and I actually have a lot of friends who either are or are in school to get an BSN, in fact you're probably smarter because you don't have to pay malpractice insurance. lol. This is actually just one of those things that I've been tossing around in my head lately anyway and it JUST happened to come up in a family discussion. Oh, and this is ignoring my recovery with the 400mg bid stint of advil, by the way. haha. -
Ooooookay, I was going to keep my mouth shut, but now you've just offended tooooo many people with this one missy! Juuuuuuuuust kidding. I was born in 84 and I'm not going to lie to you, I have YET to hear a halfway decent song that came out from 1980 to 1996ish. Crappy fashion, crappy music, crappy lyrics...come on. So, in conclusion, my generation's music sucked. Ohhhhh yeah. Eeeeevery other generation had better music than mine. Oh yeah, and most of those points at the beginning were my life story! Trying to tell me that I don't know crap! ha! Old fogies... mmmph.

I am SO in. Ohhhhh yeah. I want to get into a soccer league next season, so I have to get my running up a bit.

Anyone having less bowel movement
neveragain replied to NOlanebryant's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
As Jacqui said: Less in, Less out. It's completely normal. Nothing to worry about. If you have a lot of constipation, up the fiber in your diet. -
I think I know what it is, but do yourself a favor and talk to your surgeon and describe it the same way.
-
I couldn't agree more with everyone. I'll admit, I was a bit "optimistic" on my weight before the surgery, but a few months ago I went to Abercrombie and I fit into the shirt that I liked. It BLEW my socks off. haha. It'll all get better over time, too. :scared2:

You'll come to find that EVERYONE is different. I can eat small amounts of bread and red meat just fine, but I know a lot of people who can't even think about the stuff. Suggestion for Protein are anything Muscle Milk, Isopure, EAS, and the generic stuff they have at GNC, aside from the chocolate. Enjoy!
